Well, here's what I've learnt: I feel burned by Coirsair: I bought the Strafe (MK1, I think) with cherry reds for durability - and it's broken after a little over two years with very moderate use. So, won't buy another Corsair keyboard. I hit the keys pretty hard when I type and always have. The reds took some getting used too - perhaps silvers feel more slick? I want full size with LED light (minimum is red). RGB would be cool but not necessary. I would really appreciate USB passthrough as I only have two easily accessible USB ports on my desktop and one is permanently used by the dongle for my wireless headset. From my experience with the Strafe hot swapable switches would defo be appreciated. I saw the Asus Rog Animate but very expensive... Full size, not mini or TKL here. I consider €200

It's a long shot, but: Friend of mine lost the dongle for his wireless Razer Headset, so it's practically unusable now.. Anyway to get a new, third party compatible dongle?

I may be imagining things but: Besides the Ultrastar disk mentioned, I have 2 x HGST Deskstar NAS 10TB 256 MB cache. I realize the 18 is taken for redundancy but when writing to my NAS via Windows Mapped Network drives in MakeMKV, I get only 93 MB/sek speed. Also with Black Magic Disk Test. Isn't this a bit low and what can I do to improve it? NAS is not indexing or anything like that.

Awesome post for future drive purchases and understanding of drive labeling. I've just purchased and put the drive in my DSs918+. I got the "Not tested" message and hit continue. Everything seems fine and the drive is being added to the pool as we speak (estimated time to completion: 10 days + (yawn!)).

Hi all, I was browsing for an additional HDD for my DS918+ and came across this drive with 18TBs. It's much cheaper than the equivalent WD Gold, however, on a comparison site, I noticed it's listed as not optimized for RAID? So, should I really get the WD Gold vers. or is the comparison site site incorrect? Thanks,

I am completely lost while building a media server.

I have a Synology DS918+ (4 bays) and whilst it is simple to use, the fact that they are not very powerful is a problem when one aims to transcode (I use Plex) video - especially 4K. Building his own would allow for a much more powerful machine with a decent GPU to handle the (occasional?) transcoding. If you need a powerful Synology for Plex 4K transcode and with a decent amount of bays, you'll have to fork out a serious amount of cash. I love my Synology, however, with an SHR-1 setup, 2 x 10TB disc 85 percent full, more and more lossless 4K material to come (I use MakeMKV and MKVToolnix for remuxing) and my future camera likely to be with a 45-50+ MP sensor, I, too, am considering building a server with 8-12 bays, a GPU etc. for Plex. -
Does anyone have suggestions for HW for a Plex Media Server which must be able to transcode 4K fluently at high bitrate? Friend has recommended Supermicro parts but those are scarce and expensive in Denmark. Reliability is everything and I want a minimum of 8or 10 bays (way over kill atm but would use at least 2 discs redundancy and my collection of lossless 4K movies continue to grow. Plex tone mapping from HDR to SDR is needed as well, so need a decent GPU as well.

Hi guys, Slowly running out of space on my Synology DS918+ with 2 x 10 TB HDD running SHR-1. Whilst the 16 TB vers. is currently the largest capacity drive listed as compatible with the DS918+, I was wondering if anyone has actually dropped in an 18TB disk and can use the full capacity of said disk? I realize that the current sweet spot as to dollars - or - in my case - DNK - pr. TB still seems to be around 10 TB. However, I figure that the money saved going with a smaller drive will easily be (more than) offset by needed a new unit with more bays faster. I'm thinking about having my friend help me build a NAS with, like, 8-12 bays some day. What happens if I build my own without Synology's software? Can I change to another RAID config without loosing the data already on the HDDs?

As you can tell by the title of this thread, I havee the double typing problem with my Strafe keyboard, which is 2 years and about 4 months old. Ironically, bought a mechanical for durability I'm no good with soldering so I'm looking for a keyboard which is very durable with regards to keystrokes and won't cock out. I have a quite powerful strokee / press / attack! It needs to have a numerical section and light, be good for text writing, web surfing, music listening and decent for gaming (CS:GO). I can't believe this one is already gone. I thought Corsair was good quality and read many reviews prior to this purchase. Double typing left on purpose to demonstrate problem.
