  1. Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Forgot to add, I updated the Bios from F10 to F13g (the latest if that's the wrong name) after the crashing started. Motherboard is new. CPU is new but from an eBay seller so hopefully that's not the issue. Memory I've had for years so long past it's warranty. Will continue to investigate with XMP off. Hard to check if it's causing the crashes though since they appear random.
  2. Hello all, Just wondering if anybody knows anything about ram compatibility with Ryzen 5000 CPUS? Not what is fastest, but what is unstable. I've recently been having a problem with random crashes/restarts. Sometimes with the blue screen, sometimes not. It's not frequent or obvious to replicate, maybe once a day this week while running a game. Happened in three different games after varying times which is unhelpful. This has only started since swapping my i7-8086k to a Ryzen 7 5800x and Aorus Pro B550 board. First off I tried reinstalling windows to make sure there wasn't old drivers, since suspecting the CPU change I've been looking into that trying suggestions such as setting a voltage (as opposed to auto), turning off a precision boost option. Still crashed. I read that Ram can be a cause, I had no issue on intel but downloaded MemTest anyway, by half way through pass two of the test I had 1800 errors reported (corsair dominator platinum 3000mhz). I then tried some cheap memory from another PC in my system and had no errors. However, I put the Corsair ram in the other PC to test it and also had no errors. XMP enabled in both. So I'm not sure if that's the cause of the crashes, I'm going to leave the cheap ram in for a week and see if it stops, but the fact that my Corsair ram passes the test in another PC makes me think there is a compatibility issue causing errors. Does this make sense to anyone and if I'm correct, what memory will be stable? Was thinking Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro SL if I have to buy more. Also temperatures aren't the issue. Higher than they used to be (thinking my AIO is wearing out) but never over 80'C so shouldn't be causing a crash.
  3. Ah, good to know, thanks. If that's the case it's very helpful of them to avoid hidden fees.
  4. I think so, it's definitely live before the end of the video as I saw the announcement in the timeline, listened to that and then went back to watch the video after the quiz whiling waiting for a space to open up. Still was too slow so it ain't easy. Thanks for the answers on VAT, that's what I was afraid off. Granted, since I've been waiting over 6 months for my order it's getting increasingly tempting to overspend.
  5. Bit of a long shot but does anybody know anything about importing to the UK? He mentioned VAT which I think is paid in Canada as converting to pounds it's about the right price, but would suck to get a 20% fee once it's too late. All hypothetical off course as even starting the video in under 15 seconds I'm still too slow to complete!
  6. Thanks for the response. That is good to hear as that means I don't have to do anything! I've done that (I think) setting the pump to the GPU temp and setting a fan curve to suit. Turns out it's awkward having two of the same AIO as CAM doesn't say which is which, had to change to colour of one to find out. Thanks for the help.
  7. Weird question, but for someone who knows more about how GPU's control their temperature. Does the fan on the Graphics card need to be connected to the fan header on the Graphics card PCB? For context, I have swapped the stock blower cooler on an MSI Aero 1080TI for the NZXT G12 with a Kraken X52 AIO cooler. The fan included in the G12 does not fit the header on the Graphics card. What I have done is connect that fan and the two on the radiator to the 3 way splitter from the X52. My theory being that the X52 reads the GPU temp and hopefully the 3 fans connected to it will react to it (I've no idea if that;s how it works). The fans all spin and according to CAM, it doesn't exceed 70'c and usually sits around 60-65'c, however I'm a little nervous I've overlooked something, and even if the VRam isn't getting much hotter than shown, I am not getting to full use out of the setup.
  8. Hi folks, Quick question for those more intelligent than me. I've recently installed a Kraken X52 AIO water cooler to my 1080ti via their G12 GPU mount. After a bit of tweaking I thought I had everything working fine (I had to swap the radiator placements with the CPU as I have two of them and the GPU seemed to be kicking out more heat). It'd been running okay for a week or two, but whilst playing Hellblade, in what I assume was a fairly graphically intense section, the game half froze, the screen would freeze for a good few seconds, then stutter a little and freeze again, even minimising and using clicking on other programs was horribly delayed and unusable (I ended up shutting the PC down), while this was happening I noticed on the CAM software that under clock and fan I had N/A with the temp only 55'C. So aside to this which I am hoping is a one off, but I don't think those exist, if there is a problem wishing it away won't help sadly... My question is, does it matter where all of the fans and pumps are connected? I am using the Aero GTX 1080 Ti, and the G12 fan has a different connector to the port on the card, so I have the G12's 90mm fan and both of the radiator fans connected to the splitter built into the X52, the pump plugged into a system fan on the motherboard and obviously the USB just connected to the only USB 2.0's on the board. My theory for my PC getting confused is that it doesn't really know what the GPU is doing? In the CAM software I usually sit at 60 or 70 degrees Celsius under load depending on the game. It will usually show me my clock speed jumping around 2000mhz, but 0 RPM fan and usually near 0% load. Generally it's been fine, I've had plenty of Red Dead 2 crashes but I'm pretty sure that's Rockstar's fault not my PC's. Also, side note, my PC has tempered glass panels on all sides except the back (I know, not as good cooling but I like them), I have the CPU radiator mounted on the front with intake fans and the GPU radiator on the top with exhaust fans, although there is a good sized gap beneath the glass for airflow and I haven't had any issues with that for the CPU, I suppose it could have gotten too hot and not had the space to kick the heat out? Or does that not really matter if the GPU is only reading 70'C in CAM? (which comes back to is CAM lying or only telling me core temps when the VRAM could be twice that?) Sorry for the rambling, if anyone could make sense of it and advise it'd be great appreciated. Cheers, Tom
  9. SLI is not properly supported, but both cards will work. However, although I've managed to get both cards running at full usage and had an FPS increase, however I cannot fix the insufferable flickering, its seems very random, initially only snow, but creeps up during cut scenes just to go back to normal in gameplay, or the sky while riding around. I now have the opposite issue of being unable to stop SLI 'working'! while in the Vulkan API both cards always kick as I don't want to unplug a card or disable SLI entirely. Typical! Only DX12 in game prevents the second card and therefore flicker. If anyone has a flicker solution please do share! 4K is a killer for this games performance (as expected).
  10. Hello all, A friend has some odd issues with his PC which I'm running out of suggestions for. Hopefully someone more intelligent than I can shed some light on things. Initially he was having green dots all over his screen, having tried different PCI-e slots, monitors (and therefore cables) they did not go away, he has also tried a driver update I believe, he assumed it was the graphics card. So having bought a new card, now he gets the issue where when he tries to boot the PC it seems to freeze on the Bios screen (press F2/F8/F12 sort of thing). He has then tried removing the CMOS battery to flash the Bios, remove all USB's and try, reset the RAM (and check they're in the right Dimm slots). No luck. He doesn't have spare bits lying around to try different PSU's etc. He can get into the Bios using the old graphics card to make any changes, but the new one just freezes before anything can be pressed. Spec: Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H i5-3570k Powercool 650ab PSU (I think) The old Graphics card was a 660ti, new one is 1050 ti fresh install of windows 10 SSD for windows and HDD for programs. All I can think to try is remove the HDD, reinstall windows using the old card, update the graphics driver for the 1050ti and then swap the cards, but I don't see why that would help as I don't know what is causing the issue, just giving it a completely clean install. Also apparently the on board HDMI doesn't show anything when plugging the monitor into the MOBO direct, this could be needing a driver update for the MOBO's on board graphics. So, any suggestions? Buggered motherboard? Likely to have been the graphics card in the first place?
  11. Possibly not your thing, but good old age of empires and similar are very un-demanding on hardware and easy quick multiplayer. I am currently playing Dark Souls 3 with mine but Dark Souls games are a bit of a faff to play in entirety together due to the way summoning works. Elder Scrolls Online will also probably work well as when we tried it she was playing on a MacBook with no GPU! It's probably pretty cheap to buy on PC, probably too frustrating to start again though if one of you has already dedicated lots of time to a save on console.
  12. Hello folks, I know this is a bit of a long shot these days, but is anybody still playing Dark Souls 3 with SLI? If so, how are you getting it to work? Lately I am finding that my GPU's are jumping between 40-60% usage each with frame rates about the same with SLI disabled (if anything with less stuttering!). I keep seeing that the game supposedly supports it well enough and I'm fairly sure it scaled not too long ago. I have Nvidia profile inspector installed which is set to use the profile which should be for Dark Souls 3. I have 2 GTX 1080 TI's and an i7-8086K. My frame rate jumps around between early 40's and mid 50's. 50fps is fine with me but the jumping is often noticeable and the fact that it should work but doesn't is slightly bugging me out of principle! I also have anti-aliasing turned off as I seem to remember that helping in Rainbow Six (and on a side note, is that even that essential on a 4K screen? As I don't any difference). I have tried the latest driver but I assume that could be the issue (as I have found with older games like Dragon Age 2 working better on older drivers). Is there a particular past driver that suits this combo better? And although I assume not (or at least is not worth it), is it possible to have two different graphics drivers installed at once to switch between them for the most suitable for each program? Anywho, if anybody knows the answer that'd be great, if not, no worries, I am aware SLI is a tad awkward (and a sore subject these days!)
  13. I don't think there is a bottle neck, running Total War: Warhammer 2 the CPU usage is only 30% with the GPU at 99% of that is anything to go off. But I may try taking a card out to check out of curiosity. The room temperature only really changes after the PC has been on for a while!
  14. Thanks for the feedback folks. Having never done it, is cleaning/servicing an AIO water cooler advisable? Or should I not take it apart... It's less than 1 year old so I wouldn't expect it to require changing the fluid yet.
  15. Hello all, I have a quick question regarding CPU temperatures (apologies if it is in the wrong category). I have been watching the temperature of my CPU using NZXT's CAM software and noticed that when playing a game the temperatures are pretty much ways in the mid 60's (Celsius). From my memory, they used to around 50 with a game and in the 20's when idle. It has just occured to me that when I put a second GPU in a couple of months ago that could be the cause due to the CPU having to work harder to keep up? Does this sound likely or is it going to be something else? Spec is an i7-8086k (running at 5ghz under load), a Kraken x52 water cooler, X2 GTX 1080TI (both blower coolers) with 1 slot spacing. A few months ago I had an issue which I believe was an air bubble in the cooler which I did fix, but that could be related? Thanks in advance, Tom
