  1. i have tried to do this however have not been able to get the laptop to accept or start a repair install from a USB. if you have a guide that i can follow, that would be great. when looking at the group policy editor, everything says that they are not configured. is there a certain setting that i need to be looking at and make sure it is enabled or disabled?
  2. Hi everyone, I've been trying to fix a laptop issue a friend of mine has been having and I'm completely stumped. Most of the settings within windows 10 has disappeared. Creating a new user has the same issue, sfc /scannow doesn't flag anything up, cleaning the registry hasn't helped, I've also used cmd codes, powershell reinstalls, virus scans and nothing has worked. I have been trying to find a away to get this working again without having to do a complete reinstall of windows. So in a last ditch attempt, I'm here. Has anyone come across this issue before? If so, what causes it and for the love of God, how do I fix it?! Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.
  3. I had one of those laptops myself, sadly upgrade options are lacking, however simply upgrading to a clean OS install on an 2.5 ssd made its overall performance at least 3 times better. If you're wanting to upgrade the CPU then you're best getting a later model of the laptop. If your budget is an issue, dell has it's own refurbished laptop website which I've used in the past and you wouldn't be able to tell it's a refurb. If you sign up to the mailing list you also get around 30% off quite often.
  4. I've researched those 2 before, while the fx505 within my budget both only last around 5 hours on a single charge and the y540 is too much for my wallet. Any other recommendations?
  5. Hi All I am searching for a new gaming laptop however there are a few requirements I have which is frustrating me when trying to find the right one. Which brings me to LTT Forums for help. I'm looking for a laptop with the following minimum requirements - 7 hour battery or more - this is for when I'm using it to view websites and writing documents for university classes. Gaming time I'm not fussed since I'd have it plugged in. - i5 or i7 8th gen chipset or higher - or AMD equivalent - has a m.2 slot for storage as well as space for a standard 2.5 had - ideally ddr4 ram - will be happy with 2 slots but will settle for a 1 slot - Dedicated graphics card as GTX 1050 4gb minimum Since I'm a student, I am limited to a budget of around £750 but I can push it if needed. Any and all recommendations are greatly appreciated.
  6. Hello All, I've got a Toshiba Satellite Pro R50-B-12V Laptop which the battery capacity is getting weak. The replacement batteries that can be purchased will work of course but the capacity is much lower than what i'm looking for and will only provide me with 1-2 hours of use out of them between charges. Which is why I'm looking at replacing the Lithium-ion cells that are in the battery myself with new cells. I'm not sure what cells are currently in the laptop battery, all I know is it is a 14.8V at 2800mAh - 45Wh - 4 Cell. I've looked around and want to make sure that I get a good brand of lithium-ion cells which would provide the best replacement for what is currently in the battery. The cells i have currently found is 4x 18650 Samsung 26F H Rechargeable Battery Li-ion 3.7v cells 2600mah or the Samsung 18650 30B Li-Ion 3000mAh 3.8v. Are the above lithium-ion cells i found a suitable replacement? if so then great and if not can anyone provide me with suggestions of cells to use instead. I know to avoid the UltraFire cells since they tend to be unprotected and much lower than stated capacities. Thanks in Advance.
