Hey Everyone
I have a Water-cooled PC I use for work that has been giving me a lot of issues for the last few months. I've mainly been dealing with it because our schedule has been too busy to tear it down, but I have a gap in my schedule, and I'd love to tackle what is going on with this machine.
The Issues
Most days, I am remoting into work using half of my ultrawide and the other half for chrome/youtube streaming, with less than two dozen tabs open in Chrome. At various points, my machine will stutter. Audio will get choppy, the cursor will visibly stutter, and the video playback comes to a crawl but doesn't stop. It does recover within a few seconds. I don't have to be doing anything intense during this time for this to happen. It's pretty constant, happening once every 1-2 hours.
Occasionally, once a day, my PC will Blue Screen. This happens often during video conference calls (but isn't limited to these times) and is becoming a more significant issue. All of a sudden, my machine seems to freeze up. At first, the video playback stops, then the audio a few seconds later, followed by the UI. The lockup is than followed by a Blue Screen crash and an error saying "DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION." I've also gotten an alert pop up when shutting down during these times that say "LogTransport2.exe Application Error" Saying the application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Not sure that part is connected.
The worst and most concerning issue is my PC turning itself on. This scares the crap out of me. At random hours (late at night, mid-day one weekend, etc...), my PC will power itself on and remain at my log-in window. Nothing fishy seems to be running when I log in though.
My CPU also runs warm for a machine even when it is this water-cooled. It often sits around 40-47C (see my pcpartpicker link at the bottom.)
What I've done to try and solve the issues:
I've run virus scans using an app/service called Vipre. It's always running in the background, and I have been using it for years. It should always be up to date.
I recently installed and ran DriverHandy Pro, hoping it was a driver issue I missed, but it didn't help.
Updated Bios. I was hoping my move from 4 to 8 sticks for DDR needed a Bios update, but no change.
Update Video drivers, but no change.
I tried manually setting memory to 3600MHz in Bios and back to Auto. No difference.
I'm out of ideas before I start throwing money at it. I suspect it's potentially a driver issue, CPU thermal paste needs to be redone, my cooling system is failing somewhere, Video card issue, or one of my memory sticks. These issues started late last year several months after some upgrades that included new fans, memory, and cleaned up some wiring (including a internal USB hub) I have no idea how to determine my issue. I would love to solve where the crashes and random bootups are coming from before I drop the money to try and fix it. Any help would be appreciated.
