  1. so here is my final buy list, all parts ordered today: evga 2080 ti black (in hand. i tried it out on my alienware laptop i7-8750h with external graphic amplifier. i had a 1080 in there and was getting 41-50 fps on shadow of the tomb raider, ultra settings, 1440 res 120hz. swapped in the 2080 and now i’m getting 75 fps!) gigabyte aorus z390 ultra i9-9900x dark rock pro 4 cooler evga supernova 850 g3 power supply corsair lpx 32 gig (2x16) 3200 ddr4 samsung 970 500gb m.2 NVMe open air mining frame (going to just use the plate to install my mobo into my custom build end table) still need to buy thermal paste and fans but i will source those locally as i build the end table. thoughts?
  2. ok, you guys sold me on the aorus board, now which one?
  3. thanks for the input. thought is to install like an ac filter at the bottom with a screen, then fans will pull air from that. the upgrade path would be to a 9900k. i just settled on the 8700k for now for almost the $200 savings. maybe when the 9900k comes down and i’m looking for that extra 10-15% boost, then i’ll get that.
  4. thanks for the response. let me say, i’ve never OC’d on my own. like to think of myself as smart but for some reason, OC just doesn’t click for me. so, looking for a board/bios that is OC newbie friendly and will walk me they idle “just do it”.
  5. hi all, my evga 2080 ti black arrives tomorrow and am looking to buy the other parts in the next few days and could use some help picking out a mobo, cooler and ram. im set on the 8700k (dark rock pro 4 cooler) and would like to overclock to 5ghz so not sure if i will need water or not? i would like a z390 board so i have an upgrade path to an i9 sometime down the road. build is to maximize FPS for my pimax 5k ED vr headset that i should receive in about two months. this is a no case build. i’m going to build an end table and mount all parts inside. the plan is for the bottom of the table to by mostly fans pulling air in with exhaust channels towards the top back. ive narrowed my board down to these two but i’m not set on either so if you have a better alternative, i’m all ears! msi mpg z390 gaming pro carbon asus strix z390-e main issue i have is ram, 16? 32? does ram speed have a real world affect on fps? can i get by on 3200 or just go all in for 4400? and because of that cooler i suggested, ram needs to be low profile. i’m not married to that cooler though and would like to go water actually if you have any thoughts? please let me know your thoughts!
