  1. I am personally a fan of the BitFenix Prodigy, although you'd definitely need to downsize to an ITX/mATX board and go for a low profile GPU/cooler. A little pricey but has a very nice profile overall, and is one I have built with in the past - Was very easy to build in, too!
  2. Looks great! you're gonna love it!
  3. TBH i'm all over the place, but that GPU IS overclockable, so it's not completely out of the question.
  4. Some easy troubleshooting. Make sure it's not overheating. Download HWinfo64 and see what your temps are looking like during gaming. If you have overclocked, make sure that overclock is stable. That can easily cause a system crash/reboot. Typically a PSU issue with turn the computer off completely, though it's not completely out of the question.
  5. What kind of games are you going to be playing? Judging by the 8 year old Graphics card, I could imagine the CPU is from around the same time frame. I would say for the price it wouldn't be all that bad for light gaming (Fortnite, League of Legends, etc.) But if you're expecting to play AAA with relatively high settings I would not recommend it. Not to mention if it is used it, and if the previous owner overclocked it, or mucked around with it another way... You can not be too sure how long it will last you. In a nut shell, if you don't have the money for a new machine, and you're willing to bring down the graphics settings a bit, for $300 it's not awful. I'd just be worried about the longevity of such a rig.
  6. Weird question perhaps but when it turns off does it make a sort of "snapping" noise? Same thing happened to my old Thermaltake PSU and once I swapped it out, it ran fine. I'm worried to think your PSU kicked the dust.
  7. iirc, at least on my GTX 1060 6GB, the fans will not spin up unless the gpu goes above 55c, to be quiet unless put under load. Keep in mind if you download MSI Afterburner, you can set a manual fan curve to mitigate this- if you're worried. Otherwise, it's built into the hardware to not turn the fans on unless it has to.
  8. Link doesn't seem to be working... try to send it via the "Share" link usually in the top of the site. PCPartPicker usually tells you if there any incompatibilities regardless
  9. You could grab one stick of 8GB, but I highly recommend 16GB if you are gonna be using it for animation and various other workloads. Games are using more and more RAM every year, so 8GB is not as much as it used to be. That build they recommended you is very solid. If you need to save some money I would maybe go down to a regular 1070, and if you're looking to cut costs even more then bring the SSD down to a 128gb. These are things that will save you a bit of money, though I would just pull the trigger and get the higher quality parts, because it will save you more money in the long run.
  10. An SSD will single-handedly make a computer faster in everyday tasks. I generally get a SSD for installing windows and other important apps on, and then buying a regular Hard drive for storing projects and games on.
  11. If you look at the price of a B350 board and compare it to a X470 board, there is definitely a price difference. You are paying for more features on the x470 board.
  12. Sorry, I'm new here so I am not sure if I am allowed to post Links. just type into google "Prime 95" and the first result is where you want to be. make sure to choose the right one for your version of windows!
  13. This is great advice, if you could grab the personal data off that drive and secure it, then you could reinstall windows without the risk of losing your data. Definitely might simply be a bad SATA cable or port, so try that.
  14. The Specific chipset on each motherboard have their own advantages and disadvantages. The X470 chipset allows a higher maximum RAM speed, better overclocking, and multiple GPU support. Beyond that they can also offer more SATA slots, M.2 slots, etc, etc. In the end it entirely falls on how you want to use the computer. Higher RAM speeds for Ryzen is definitely gonna be a good thing. The big disadvantage is you are paying more for something that doesn't GREATLY change the everyday use of your computer. In the end, your mileage may very. I use a Ryzen 1600 on my computer with a B350 motherboard, and havent felt the need to go for a higher end one. As for overclocking in the first place, definitely do it at your own risk. As long as you aren't mucking around too much with voltages though, you can't really kill the computer. Best course of action is to do a bit of research on that particular subject before attempting it yourself.
