  1. Thank you for your response. He installed the board himself and I am confident that this board was installed on top of the proper standoffs. We discussed the possibility of a short but I'll have him check for loose screws anyways. I chose the 800 watt 80+ bronze PSU over the much more brand worthy 550 watt Cooler Master RS-550-PCAR-E3 with no rating. Probably a poor choice on my part but I have a bias against ketchup and mustard cables... This should be a fairly easy swap out. Is there anything else we should check or uninstall before swapping out the PSU? Could this be a connection issue with the CPU Fan or a bad Cooler Mount?
  2. Quick Background Story. I am helping my 12 year old cousin build a PC for the first time from parts that have been gifted to him. I believe he has an upgraded OptiPlex for his current computer. I feel this is a great opportunity for him to learn about PC building and maybe upgrade past his current setup. (big maybe...) Not everyone is so fortunate to buy all new parts, or even used parts. He has done a phenomenal job so far in assembling this PC. Hopefully we can make it POST and have some fun along the way! My experience: Thanks to Linus's can do attitude (paired with Paul's Hardware's build guide) I built my first PC in February of 2019. I have built or heavily participated in 5-6 builds since then. Therefore most of these components feel quite foreign to me as I was not following the PC market at that time. Also, I am helping him from another state over discord, so please be patient with my responses. Currently Assembled: MOBO: Asrock 990FX Extreme4 CPU: AMD FX-8150 FD8150FRW8KGU RAM: Micron 4GB 2RX8 PC3L-12800U-11-11-B1 GPU: EVGA GTX780 Classified PSU: Xtreme Gear 800W 80 plus Bronze, model: XG-H800 HDD: unknown Case: unknown, similar age Hardware options: 2 Kits of Ram, 2 GPUs, 2 PSUs. There is an Asrock Fatal1ty Z87 Killer with an i5-4690, but the gift giver is afraid that the combo is not functioning. This would unfortunately be a last ditch resort. Current Problem: The PC has been assembled to this point but will not post. Upon pressing the power button, the Power Reset switch directly on the mobo will flash once, there is very brief fan movement but it stops and then nothing else. I would greatly appreciate any hints, tips, tricks or ideas as we start to scrutinize all connections and begin to play the hardware isolation game.
  3. Thanks for you everyone. Looks like my buddy will need to pick up an adaptor. ... or build a new PC like I suggested
  4. That's a good idea, but maybe not an ideal first step. Here are some screenshots from the Mobo manual. Does it make sense that this drive should at least function?
  5. Hello All, My friend purchased a 2TB M.2 970 Evo during the black friday sales and was hoping to carry this drive forward for a long time. Unfortunately it won't show up in the bios. I am trying to help determine if this is a mobo lanes issues or general compatibility with the bios? MSI B150 Gaming M3 with an intel 6700K. Mobo user manual states that it should be able to operate in Sata mode from what I can see. Any help would be appreciated.
  6. There's been a Fry's here in Indiana for as long as I can remember. It's always been a fun place to go look around and put your hands on some new tech. When I finally decided to build my first PC two years ago I ventured down to Fry's to take a closer look at some of the components I was interested in. It was sad to say the least. There were 2 versions of B450 motherboards and I couldn't find a case that wasn't NZXT or fit for the bargain bin. It's sad to see them go, but no one should be surprised.
  7. The ViewSonice XG2705 is being sold by numerous sites, some more reputable than others. But if you look at ViewSonic website and marketing, this monitor is due to release in Jan 21, 2021. Do these companies actually have early stock or are they just listing the product early with no preorder designation? It looks like the monitor I want to buy but this whole situation looks sketchy. https://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-XG2705-Frameless-FreeSync-Ergonomics/dp/B084JNYTYV?th=1 https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1609872-REG/viewsonic_xg2705_27_1_ms_144hz_ips.html?ap=y&smp=y https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16824116985?Description=xg2705&cm_re=xg2705-_-24-116-985-_-Product&quicklink=true Thanks for your help
  8. Hello Everyone, I am looking into getting a dual monitor mount for my computer. Traditionally I have always had my monitor side by side but I am interesting is going vertical as well. Is there a mounting system out that there can do both? I currently have a new 29" Ultrawide and an older 24" widescreen with larger bezels. I will be looking to replace my older 24" monitor with a 27" monitor at some point. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074PZTLSK/?coliid=IDSINN0QNT50K&colid=2Q4AE0RCCRBSE&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it Would the above mounting hardware do both or is this just wishful thinking on my part? Thank you,
  9. This is a great website for SSD benchmarks. I can also say that I'm very happy with my Crucial MX500 500GB drive. Just don't let it fill up with games you don't play. 500GB does not go as far as you think it will, though it may still be a good start. https://ssd.userbenchmark.com/ If budget is really a concern of yours, I would look at a 250GB SSD to run your Operationg System and then pair it with a cheaper 1TB 7200 rpm HDD for game storage. This may not be what you want to hear but it's a good budget solution.
  10. I understand and will respect LTT's policies. I am disappointed that we cannot find an amicable way to promote other communities inside of the LTT forum. There is no doubt in my mind this has been heavily abused in the past leading to your current policies. Again, thank you for your quick responses. Please enjoy the rest of your day.
  11. Thank you for your quick response. Do you have any recommendations for promoting this to the LTT community outside of the forum? Can we toss a post at an LTT twitter page? Can I hit up chat during a WAN show stream? Thank you,
  12. Hello Everyone, Is there a policy for promoting Live Streams to the LTT community? I understand this could get messy. I bring this up because i'm moderating a new Twitch channel which will be hosting a Charity stream in near future. I would love to invite the tech community to participate without looking like a click-baiting shill. 1. Is there an appropriate place to promote streaming communities on the LTT forum? 2. Is there a policy in place for promoting streaming communities? Thank you,
  13. Since wifi is a requirement in his current situation, do you have a recommendation for a solid wifi adapter? I assume that pcie would be best but.... idk
  14. Hello Everyone, I have a friend looking to make a budget build for Christmas and I'm helping him build it. I am steering him towards a B450 motherboard with integrated wifi. Cheaper is better but I don't want him to get a garbage board either. Are there some serious dumpster fires I need to stay away from? No interest in overclocking, 1080p gaming, will probably combo with an R5 2600 and a GTX1650 Super. I'm eyeing the ASRock B450M/AC Micro ATX for around $75. The next board is about $120. Our budge is $800 including peripherals. He is starting with nothing.
  15. This is a community and I try to treat it as such. I'm sure this isn't the first time someone has had trouble with this.
  16. Okay I found it. Again, I am for sure a moderator and I may have an editors status as well. I'm sharing this for anyone else who might run into the same issue. @The1Dickens congrats, you're on the last episode of TechLinked with an Xbox Series X post. While viewing an active live stream > Go to the Chat Settings "Gear" icon below the chat window > Select "Manage Moderation Settings .... continued below This will take you to an Automod Controls page > Select the Menu button in the upper left (three horizontal bars) > Select the drop down arrow under "Content" > Select "Video Producer" Select the video to you want to download. This 3 hour stream took a good 1-3 minutes to prepare before the download started but everything works.
  17. He has already given me Editor status and for the life of me I can't download anything directly from Twitch on my account. I also didn't yield any information in my Google search. Though I did not brave the depths of Reddit.
  18. We may end up sharing account info. But i'll leave that up to him. Most of his streams are between 2-3 hours at 1080p. I'm not sure how much of a hassle it would be to share over the web. He lives on the other side of the state.
  19. Hello Everyone, A friend of my has a brand new Twitch streamer looking to branch over to Youtube as well. I am simply looking to help out and try my hand at video editing for the first time. So here is my questions. Is there a way to download his Twitch VOD's without actually logging into his account? I mean... and ethical way. I also don't want to sacrifice video quality in the process. A quick google search brings up links for the 4k Download and Twitch Leecher. I don't feel the need to use one of these "gray" market software applications. As a moderator of his channel is there any way for him to grant me direct access to his content? Thank you in advance!
  20. I am using the HDMI cable included with the monitor and it's plugged directly into my graphics card.
  21. I gave this a try since I'm definitely no longer using my old desk speakers... still nothing. And my headphones start working immediately when I re-enable them.
  22. This is what I'm seeming in Device Manager. The driver is from 2017 but when I try to update it says "Windows had determined that the best driver for this device is aldready installed. There may be better drivers on Windows Update or on the device manufacturer's website. I would really appreciate any help you guys could provide.
  23. Hello Everyone, I have just purchased and setup my new ultrawide monitor and love the visual quality. But I can't get the speakers to work. Yes the monitor does in fact have speakers (see below). I have made sure the monitor was selected for sound. I have run the windows sound troubleshooter. I have installed the latest drivers from LG... I guess I could try an older driver version I'm beginning to wonder if having the monitor plugged into the graphics card is creating the issue??? Could it be that my Windows is not activated (shhhh... I know) Any ideas out there cause I'm lost.
  24. I'm digging your version of the logo. Do you have a higher quality version of the image? I'm trying to increase the size of the logo.
