  1. The zoomed image makes it look worse than it actually is. Hopefully it will be okay as I am still studying for my BA and I dont have much money to throw around. All seems to be stable, I just hope I have not exposed anything or broken any minute but intricate parts (incase you could not tell, I am not the most tech savvy person). Sorry if this is a stupid question, but if it remains under the heat-sink, could it get progressively worse? From the limit knowledge I have of CPU (and trust me it is very limited) they generally die due to circuit/silicon degradation? Is it possible that the little area of wear has exposed or weakened the area surrounding a tracer that could cause it to burn out quicker? Do you know if Intel have any diagrams showing the routing of the circuitry on the substrate? Sorry if these are god awful questions, I appreciate all the help guys!
  2. Is the chip anywhere near any connections? I have been reading about people using CPUs with entire corners chipped.
  3. Surely they wont RMA a chipped CPU?
  4. Hello everyone, Regretfully during a build last week, a young sibling managed to knock my brand new 9600k off a low stool. The CPU departed from the plastic casing in free-fall and slid a few inches across a tiled floor. Thankfully, no serious damage was dealt to the CPU - I have it up and running in my system currently. It has ran P95 and intel burn test with maximum temps of 66 degrees while under full load. I did notice one VERY small scratch on what I believe is the motherboard PCB. I have been playing blackout, world of Warcraft and Arma today with no visible issues. Regretfully, I do not have the knowledge or expertise to state if the longevity of the CPU has been shortened. I tend to hold onto my CPUs for a while, with my last 2 i5s being a 2500k/4690k respectively - I just hope the CPU us not going to throw in the towel a year down the line. I will include some pictures of the CPU and the slightly damaged corner. I have included a few images, with one magnified area of damage. https://imgur.com/jOC5hCl
