  1. Your parts are compatible, do you have a specific question? What's your budget and where are you from? We could come up with suggestions for an alternative build for you
  2. Regarding the DIMM.2 slot, only the maximus XI comes with an extra heatsink unfortunately - I think it looks dope! Rampage still has cooling for regular m.2 slots
  3. Always? So there isn't even an option to use CPU lanes on a x299 platform? Or does it just always use chipset lanes on Z390 (including DIMM2)?
  4. Hey everybody, this topic is rather confusing for me. Is there a perfromance difference between using CPU lanes vs. chipset lanes for an M.2 NVMe SSD? If so, how much? I'm planning to use only one M.2 NVMe SSD for now. I'm looking at Asus Rampage VI Extreme vs. Asus Maximus XI Extreme mobos. Another question regarding the Maximus XI Extreme (https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/ROG-MAXIMUS-XI-EXTREME/specifications/) There is the option for a ROG DIMM.2 Module support(CPU_DIMM.2), does this use chipset lanes or CPU lanes (of which there are only 16 with a 9900K, so that would be a no-go for me). Hope you guys can shine some light on that issue.
  5. Wow thank you! The O11 is now on top of my list again!
  6. I did, but an E-ATX mainboard would cover the fans that are installed on the right side. I don't think that would look too good. I also doubt that there is enough room for bottom fans with a second GPU (2,7 slot) installed - but I'm not sure. I like the ROG edition of the case, though!
  7. Hey guys, people helped me out a lot over at "New Builds and Planning", so I thought why not ask you for some insider case recommendations, maybe there is something out there that I haven't seen yet. I'm looking for an elegant, simplisistic, slick looking case with (very) good airflow and subtle RGB highlights (Asus Aura compatible would be great) - things like Jonsbo UMX4 Plus (unfortunately no 360 radiator support) and Phanteks Evolv X (not sure about airflow here). Specs: E-ATX, 2x GPU, at least 1x 360 radiator, visible PSU (or a cutout in the PSU shroud like the Evolv X has). Not too much glass (like the TT View 71). I'm open for exotic cases, too!
  8. To add on to this: If you insist on using your own thermal paste, make sure you remove any preapplied thermal paste from the cooler first!
  9. Thanks for your response. I'm most likely going to stick with 9980XE! PCIe-lanes are definitely something I'm interested in. I was thinking about a single RTX Titan, but double the price for 10-20% performance is absolutely insane. I believe these aren't really consumer cards/gaming cards at all. If I'm ever going to upgrade to NVlink 2080 Tis, the PCI lanes will definitely come in handy also.
  10. Yeah I know, that's why I wondered how much of a difference I could expect in games where it comes down to CPU.
  11. Thanks for taking the time to read the entire thing and respond, guys. I think I will stick with the 9980XE! How much of a difference (FPS) are we roughly talking compared to a 9900K (3440x1440) - both graphical galore AAA titles and stuff like CS:GO?
  12. Hey guys, so I've been planning my new build throughout december and ordered basically everything I need. 9980XE, Asus Rampage VI Extreme, Asus ROG Strix 2080 Ti OC, 2x nvme SSD. I'm currently using 2x Alienware AW3418DW (3440x1440, 120Hz) for gaming as well as content creation. My girlfriend is also using this machine for picture and video editing/rendering (she's interested in 4k). Honestly my focus is gaming (+streaming/youtube), so I'm now having second thoughts if I should go with a mainstream setup? I'd much prefer to build this monster than a 8700K/9900K Z390 mainstream desktop, but multiple people have told me that 9980XE or HEDT in general is not gonna get me those lovely high FPS and is basically bottlenecking a 2080 Ti? It was also my intention to be able to get a second GPU in the future for more demanding games @ 4k (as mentioned above, we might also be getting a 4K monitor in the near future for my gf). As I understand the available PCIe lanes would help with that on an HEDT platform, right? I was lucky to get one of the few available 9980XEs and it should be here within the next couple of days. It comes down to whether or not a 9980XE can give me a similar gaming experience as a mainstream CPU.
