  1. Okay, I also just checked the size of the card and it'll mean I'd have to get a new case, too. Yeah, and with what DarthEoin said, I think I better just wait a bit longer for that upgrade. What I have is fairly new anyway and it served me quite nicely during the last year. A TV it is! I've been eyeing the LG C9 ever since LTT posted the video on it. I'll have a look around the forum to see if that is still the TV I should buy. I'm sure there are plenty of discussions about that one and it's competitors already.
  2. It's a little difficult testing out VR at the moment. There is nothing set up at the electronics shops here anymore due to covid. I probably could just order one, test it out a few hours and send it back, but that's a lot of hassle, haha. Yeah, you are probably right then. It's not like I'm never gonna treat myself again, maybe VR should be further down the line. The more I think about it, the more I would love a mobile version. And if they suck right now, I should probably wait. Considering that I would sell the 2060 after it, too, I can totally squeeze that in. He said I'd need a 2080 Ti to play new games with that resolution and refresh rate. Which would have blown the budget. Oh well, I gotta give this a good think again then. TV seems the safest bet at the moment. Thank you! I don't have to make a choice soon, but this helped clear it up a bit
  3. Okay so, I hope you didn't get a stroke reading that title. I have about 1k€ that I can spend on something nice. Been saving up a while and I can finally go for it, but I'm having a really hard time picking what makes the most sense atm. There's 3 options: A TV, VR or a PC Upgrade (Plus monitor) for 1440p 144hz gaming. TV: I am still using a 1080p Grundig that I bought 11 years ago and it's about time that one gets replaced. OLED would be preferable, but I'm up for anything, as long as I get some really nice blacks and decent HDR. I do play games on it, but up until now it only has been Nintendo consoles, so input lag isn't too much of a dealbreaker. Although I might actually get the PS5, so I dunno. Can't be horrible, let's leave it at that. VR: I think my current desktop PC should be able to run any VR goggles. (Ryzen 7 2700X, RTX 2060, 16GB RAM) Or at least I hope so. Although I do not like the concept of these goggles to be bound to the PC, I'm not entirely sure if the mobile ones are worth the money. I get easily motionsick too, so yeah. PC: With what I mentioned above I think 144hz in 1440p is out of the picture and I already talked to a buddy of mine who said that this is not something I can achieve with that kind of money. Even with selling the "old" parts and including that into the price. Maybe there is a way? WWYD? :D My gut is very torn between the TV and the VR. PC upgrade is a bit behind simply cause of the discussion with my friend. TV would get rid of some really old tech, but not used quite as much as the VR goggles. I haven't tried VR yet, but I see myself getting heavily invested into it. If I find one in my price range that doesn't cause headaches after 5 minutes. But it would also get me to move more again, lose a few of those extra pounds. Beatsaber might actually save me from a heart attack, haha. Then again, I remember that old TV being the first Full HD screen I ever had and watching Planet Earth on it absolutely boggled my mind back then. From what I've seen in shops I am sure that I'll get that excitement back with 4K. This isn't supposed to be a recommendation thread for specific hardware, I just want some opinions, if ya'll don't mind. (I hope this is the right place to discuss this, if not, I apologize for making the mods move it.) I'll ask for specifics in the other forums here, once I made up my mind. Cheers!
  4. Alright, things have changed a bit Budget got a tad bigger and after I showed my buddy this thread, we decided to buy a tad more expensive stuff for me. It came down to: MSI B450M GAMING AMD B450 So.AM4 Dual Channel DDR4 mATX Retail 500GB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 2280 NVMe PCIe 3.0 x4 32Gb/s 3D-NAND TLC (MZ-V7E500BW) 16GB (2x 8192MB) G.Skill RipJaws V schwarz DDR4-3200 DIMM CL16-18-18-38 Dual Kit And a AMD Ryzen 7 2700X However I am still missing a GPU, obviously. I can theoretically go up to 500€ for it, but I really rather not push that limit. I would be a whole lot more comfortable with something around 300-350. I haven't really checked for any AMD cards in this price range, because my buddy said while they might be okay for whatever editing I will be doing, if it comes to gaming, I shouldn't get any AMD cards nowadays. I only ever used AMD cards and never had any issues with them. (Iirc started with a 4670HD and then upgraded to my current R9 290, both amazing for their price at the time in my opinion) So I don't know... I found that the 1070 can be bought for 300€ and the 1070Ti for 430€ and I've no idea if they're actually worth their price tags. Or if it's a sensible upgrade to do. Halp! =D Edit: I would also be willing to wait a few months if there's anything sweet coming on the market in that price range ?
  5. Thanks! How much money would I be looking at here if I'm to sell whatever I'm replacing? (As in, probably the CPU and GPU or is there a chance to sell the Motherboard and RAM, too?) I can probably get someone to lend me some more money. I can also wait a little longer and save up some more and just buy in a month or two, if there's no significant increase in the performance that I can buy with my current budget. But anything more than 800€ is not going to happen anytime soon.
  6. Hi there! Once 2018 is over I'm looking into upgrading my PC. The reason I'm upgrading is mainly for editing, because After Effects is a pain in the butt at the moment. However, I'm also looking into integrating my own gaming videos into the editing process, so I guess what I want is a jack of all trades? Plus, I'm a gamer, too, and the new stuff just runs mediocre at best. I'm as far from an expert as I can be and understand like 20% of the LTT content (And watch it anyway, ha), but I'm guessing whatever gaming rig you can come up with is probably able to handle my editing, too? (Mostly 1080p, and whatever gaming records would be 1440p) Here's what I'm working with at the moment: Dell U2713HM 1440p (Plus a HannsG 1680*1050 for dual-tasking/watching/editing/general tomfoolery and a Samsung TV over HDMI) I will definitely keep this and don't see me getting a 4k Monitor anytime soon. MSI z87-G45 Gaming (MS-7821) with a broken GPU Slot, but it hasn't been a problem ever, I got a professional to remove it completely. Intel Core i5 4670K with a Thermalright Macho Rev.A(BW) heatsink R9 290 4GB GDDR5 512bit that has a Arctic Accelero Xtreme IV on top for some decent overclocking An Antec 520 Watt HCG as power supply 2x 4TB HDDs 8GB DDR3 All fit into a Stryker SE from Cooler Master. I hope I didn't forget anything important. So, the only thing that I am100% sure about is that I definitely need a SSD. 250gb minimum. The more the better. I'm from Germany and my budget is 500-600€ (About 550$-660$). I can theoretically invest some more, but only if it makes sense. I'm a bang-for-my-buck kinda guy. There's a decent site where I do most of my shopping, so I'll check for the best prices myself, don't want to bother you beautiful people too much ? I'm open to anything, really. Absolutely no preferences whether Nvidia/AMD or whatever. My buddy works in IT and he'll help me to build it all together, so watercooling is an option, too. I'll do some overclocking as well. Or no watercooling if that's too expensive. If it's possible to re-use my old components with new stuff, that's great. Oh well, before i ramble on and on, I'll just submit now =D Thanks for taking the time!
