  1. Hey Everyone, yes you read the topic right, for me its quite a strange thing cause I have never troubleshooted anything like this, but eventually various processes die while my PC is in general idle. I'm playing back a youtube video in the background to avoid chrome crashing while writing these lines. The issue is basically since the beginning this PC has been built, although nowadays I feel its more frequent hence I did spend more time on troubleshooting. I do have a hard background of PC hardware, was a profession for quite some years, although not very recently as I'm in Enterprise IT and doing Architecture and Engineering for IT security, so have some proficiency for problem analysis I guess. Also I built the PC, its from higher end components, good cooling, etc. So just to point out what I don't have issues with: playing 4k/VR for extended periods of times watching videos, doing casual stuff, watching discord stream from friends and in general that is summing up most of the time for what I use this PC for. But I do have issues with... doing anything while nothing is actually generating load. So lets describe the random crashes while my PC is generally idle: Chrome: crashes with STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION and STATUS_BREAKPOINT dwm.exe: I'm shit at windows debugging, event log is not really verbose, freaking annoying though that it recycles all my displays Discord: just shuts down and restarts, going through the logs I have found 'render process' crashes like always: {"timestamp":1714160327.887,"category":"console","level":"log","message":"blackbox: 2024-04-26T19:38:47.887Z 11 render-process-gone { reason: 'crashed', exitCode: -1073741819 }"},{"timestamp":1714160327.891,"category":"electron","message":"renderer.destroyed","type":"ui","data":{"id":2,"url":"https://discord.com/channels/674215724734087178/674215724734087181"}},{"timestamp":1714160327.891,"category":"electron","message":"window.focus","type":"ui","data":{}},{"timestamp":1714160327.891,"category":"electron","message":"app.browser-window-focus","type":"ui"} So lets try a list what I did validate through my issue is on and what I have done: Reinstalled Windows 11 several times I'm constantly updating all my drivers Ran MemTest86+ until 3+ passes on different profile settings (with XMP on/off, multiple CPU profiles) Tried several CPU profiles, currently on this new Intel force stock restrictions on voltages and TDP bios, with enabling this option XMP is also off Validated performance with CB, 3DMark, it does perform as identical hardware should, I have zero problems with performance or under-load stability I'm not overclocking this hardware, never did, nor needed. I'm just out of ideas guys, so I'd be glad if you could provide some so that I would have some next steps where to move forward. If its a hardware thing, I have zero clue if I could point out my GPU or Mobo, or anything with this particular stuff, so some test cases or to-dos if you have some would help a lot. Thanks in advance! Peter
  2. You got a point there. It got me thinking that maybe I should just split the 2 entirely. I want to have a mirrored raid solution for our family memories so I could go with a Synology NAS with just ripping off the drives currently holding that data from her computer after migrating as a cold backup. Meanwhile for her replicating the work stuff, I think maybe a RasPI could do with a basic remote access to it on Samba level, while setting up a daily backup locally to her PC. So if something happens to work stuff, only a day of work is gone, while the family memories are kept completely isolated and also having a cold backup. edit: of course I would use the raspi in this case as somewhat of a DMZ solution on the hierarchy level, to avoid any issues in case that get bot hacked. That ofcourse means that if someone is hacking it he can use all of the class materials for teaching english for hungarians freely
  3. I know about the bots are we are quarterly auditing internally and annually with an external provider all of our services we work on. I know enterprise cyber security bots are not as up to date as hackers, but we do have exposed services to www, with approx 1.5mill requests per day, so if not a security expert, I'm kindof familiar. VPN I think would work. I want to de-introduce her of the clutter that she uses, and introduce tech to be organized once and for all. Putting her tech into a domain (dunno if that is the windows equal, I'm a linux guy), and giving her a pendrive that hey if you stick it in you have access to all of your data. Organization would be the utility part of the solution I want to reach, having our familiy memories in safe with raid1 and only reachable from like her home LAN IP only, is the safeguarding for that data.
  4. My mom is a school teacher and she works from various devices. She has like 10 pendrives and 5 external HDDs she is currently carrying syncing sending her data to and from. She is obviously not like a public figure or storing the initiation codes for the nuke strikes towards russia on it, so a targeted attack has very very if not likely zero chances. I want it to be as secure as it can. Setting up a VPN with a personal cert and a user/pw combination then restricting accessing it locally only (pretty sure I can do that with OpenVPN), I think pretty well would fill in that. Or am I missing something?
  5. Hello fellas, due to tragical family reasons, I was 'promoted' as the IT guy for the family. Basically I'm an IT guy, a devops engineer with experience on supporting enterprise services for major companies. Yes I do know how to build an enterprise infrastructure for the needs of my mother to have a mirrored raid NAS solution for our family history storage and also her work related stuff. So backup and also utilities to be able to be reached from anywhere. So security is key on exposing this to over the net ofcourse. My problem is not my capabilities but my lack of knowledge on consumer level easy to use solutions. Like something I know I could build with a Synology solution, with openvpn and certificate protected security zones on the samba share, but no idea whether there are out of the box solutions out there to fullfill my needs. My requirements on this: easy to use: my mom will need to be able to easily and always be able to use it from various devices both LAN and remote cost: I don't want to cheap out on security and memories trust me, but although I'm working for a wealthy Western European country I do it from the Eastern part of the continent and you know, salaries... I'm thinking on 2*4TBs of storage in a 2 disk solution, yet again mirrored raid. If configuration is not easy, no issues just maintenance should not occur because of solving issues regularly, only on security level regularly. Sorry I know that all the information is available through the net I just want at least some traces on which way should I start myself on researching based on your experiences. Many thanks for all the inputs in advance! :)
  6. Hi there, I was not in deep of OCing since LGA775, but now I am. I know SLI is dead, but I play in 4k (yes I love it), and I need (because SLI is dead) around 5ghz to have a smooth experience in my most played title. My CPU I guess is a decent one as I can easily reach 5.3 with adaptive and auto settings, system is stable. Problem is the temps, I mean not in a critical way. I'm running a Corsair h115i pro with the 2000rpm maglev fans of theirs, and peaking around 80'ish temps, which is not low but not critial. I can also keep all my other temps in the safe zone, including the top VGA. Relevant specs: MB: ASUS Z370F Gaming CPU: Intel i5-8600k CPU Cooler: Corsair H115i pro RAM: 16GB HyperX Predator 16GB 3333mhz VGA: 2xASUS Strix 1070ti PSU: Corsair RM850x Attached a pic of the setup in terms of air channels. Only the CPU AIO is the intake with positive pressure in mind. Problem is, I run the CPU cooler as the only intake in my Corsair 500D, with positive pressure and outtakes at the top (1200rpm maglevs came with the cpu cooler) and at the back (Coolermaster high cfm 120mm). But, I'm running an SLI config of 1070ti, so I got the idea of trying to lower the temps on my CPU to lower the all-together temps. Turns out that 'adaptive' setting on the CPU core voltage keeps me running at around 1.45v. I was shocked, like jesus what is that. So, set it to the manual default running at the same 50 multiplier for all cores, no other changes, and run prime95 which i used for the original benchmarking. I used both Intel's utility and the ASUS AI Tweaker to monitor my values printed for voltage, and these basically dropped to a maximum of 1.22volts reported by these. Meanwhile my CPU% dropped, to around a 70-80%, thermals were good though, 70 ish, but clearly the CPU underfreq-ed itself, probably because of the undervolt that basically happened. So I tried offset +0.1, which would also allow to go near the same values adaptive caused at the very beginning, but it didn't do it, stayed at maxing at 1.24. The system did not got unstable, but the CPU freq again, dropped, with no alarming temps. These issues, even with the undervolted printed values of the voltage does not cause any negative effects when not running prime, but I want to understand whether the values printed are false, or I'm doing something really-really wrong, uneducated or stupid. I'm not familiar with OCing 1151, but I consider myself more like an advanced/experienced guy in these matters. The values simply not representing the settings I make, but clearly, measuring the temperature differences with the voltage values from the external voltage regulator... these add up. So, if you have read this though (first of all thanks!), let me shoot my straight questions, mostly sorted in relevance. - am I doing something really wrong? - missing something mandatory? - is the +2core upgrade from the previous series of intel is causing that overvolt and overtemperature? - delidding. I'm not aware of using the right tools ofcourse. Is that my only (or best) possibility to get over these issues? In that case I'd probably go some more power with investing in a new I7? maybe, for a more stable situation concerning the future. Well, thanks for reading, hope you can help me with that situation
  7. while out of the box dx12 mgpu is not supported, dx11 SLI is manageable, and my GPUs scale perfectly. IF I don't cap at 100% CPU my GPUs are alongside at 99% usage, which is not only a number cause with one card full ultra settings I was sitting around 37FPS, with the second card enabled I'm capped at 60 (yes I play with vsync), but if thats off even bursts up to the mid 80s. CPU bottleneck is observed in my case and not just a theory
  8. Hey Everyone, I'm new here but not new to the PC building. Although, for a while I haven't built anything, this September I finally got myself some pleasure :) With secondhand GPU prices dropping in my local country, I decided that as I can go with 1070ti SLI for the price of one 1080ti, I gave it a shoot as it was my dream to have a multi-gpu setup. Wasnt my best choice, but still its a beauty. Yes, I game in 4k, so eventually I still see it was a decent choice, and will be in the future as well. I have picked a 8600k, thought the 6 cores will do the trick, and also a Corsair H115i, to keep the potential for overclocking if needed. Yesterday, I needed it. BF5 64player seemed to bottlenecking the GPUs, each going around 70% and FPS dropping. I overclocked to 5.27 from a 5.0, which solved the issue with the cooler (of course) handling the heat, but it got me thinking whether I need to upgrade in the near future. I haven't built anything for like 8 years, and by that time we usually disabled HT for gaming, but this seems to be changed (yep my bad on not looking it up). So, do I need an i7 so be stable with this SLI config? What would you suggest for me to buy? Thanks a lot in advance!
