  1. Hi everyone, sorry if this is not the right thread for this. I would like to pick your brains for advice about upgrading my PC. I have an RTX 2080 and an i7-9700K OCd to 5.0 GHz. Realistically what is the most powerful GPU I can upgrade to without upgrading my entire system? Basically what is the best GPU that the 9700K won't severely bottleneck at 1440P? Of course I am aware the PSU might need upgrading too depending on the GPU possibility. My current PC: PCPartPicker Part List: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/fVn4K4 CPU: Intel Core i7-9700K 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor CPU Cooler: Corsair H115i PRO 55.4 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler (Purchased For £115.00) Motherboard: Gigabyte Z390 AORUS PRO ATX LGA1151 Motherboard Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32 GB (4 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 CL16 Memory Video Card: Gigabyte GAMING OC GeForce RTX 2080 8 GB Video Card Case: Corsair Crystal 570X RGB Mirror Black ATX Mid Tower Case Power Supply: Corsair TX650M Gold 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply Upgrade path I looked at: PCPartPicker Part List: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/JVBmCd CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 4.2 GHz 8-Core Processor (£364.99 @ Amazon UK) Motherboard: Asus TUF GAMING X670E-PLUS WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard (£285.00 @ Computer Orbit) Memory: Corsair Vengeance 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-5600 CL36 Memory (£94.99 @ Amazon UK) Video Card: MSI GAMING TRIO CLASSIC Radeon RX 7900 XTX 24 GB Video Card (£929.99 @ Amazon UK) Power Supply: Corsair RM850e (2023) 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply (£118.99 @ Amazon UK) Total: £1793.96 On another note, if I decide to spend this money and upgrade everything, does this look like a good combination of parts to use? Many thanks for all your help in advance!
  2. Thank you very much for your input! Tbh I didn't think the two case fans would be enough but glad to hear they'd be just fine. I didn't actually look at intel to be honest, my bad... That first build you've recommended does look better and of course has better upgradeability later down the line. So will probably go with that. I am a bit afraid of GPU manufacturers who I don't know much about is XFX decent and I needn't worry?! That's the reason I went with the Gigabyte card as that was the cheapest card form a manufacturer I know (I personally have a Gigabyte card as well). I did see the Asrock ones as well, how are they longevity wise? If you say there is no need to worry about the XFX then I will recommend that!
  3. Budget (including currency): £800 Country: UK Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Generic Gaming mainly Fortnite, Warzone, Minecraft Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Hello everyone. A friend asked me to spec a gaming PC for their little brother for £800. This is what I put together. Not sure if it will be used at 1080p or 1440p but I assumed 1440p. https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/bPZ9jZ Is this decent for the price? what would you change? The case is set, that is the one they want. Many thanks in advance!
  4. Hello there. Long story short, I used to be able to control and set up custom curves for my case fans via various Windows apps. I used Gigabytes SIV as I have a Gigabyte motherboard. But now I can only adjust the speed of the fans or set up custom curves in the BIOS' Smart Fan. Won't bore you why but I once had to take the cmos battery out to reset, since then the above described issue has been going on. Also, SIV won't even launch even after reinstalling it multiple times using different methods. No error shown, it just simply won't open. Other Gigabyte apps work though, like RGB Fusion, works direct and through Gigabyte's App Center too. Apps like Speedfan can't even detect the fans. However, Corsair's ICUE software can see them and shows their RPM. Had 2 BIOS updates since the problem (no changes to this issue) and I just have no clue where to even look or why taking the CMOS battery out would affect something like this... System: -Win 10 Pro X64 -Corsair Crystal 570X Case -Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro Mobo updated to F12l bios. -4 Corsair SP120 RGB fans connected to Sys fan ports on the motherboard (RGB cables connected to case control) -2 Corsair fans that come with the H115I Pro AIO (I can control these through ICUE under the AIO settings without any issues) Anyone have any ideas what might be the problem? P.s. I know there's no need to keep messing with the fans, I just set up a curve I want in the BIOS and leave it be; hence why I dropped this issue for months. But if something doesn't work exactly as it should it does annoy me. What probably annoys me even more is that I can't fix it....
  5. Thank you all for your input! Looks like the Logitech G935 it shall be then!
  6. Hello, I am looking to get a new headset to use for gaming and to listen to music. I am willing to spend around £100-£150 for it. I play all kinds of games and would like surround sound for the extra immersion. I do somewhat care about microphone quality as I often play with friends (doesn't have to be studio quality, just good enough). Being wireless is preferable but not essential. The 4 that I currently have my eyes on are: -Logitech G935 -SteelSeries ARCTIS 7 -Razer Nari -Kingston HyperX Cloud Revolver S I am personally leaning towards the Logitech headset as I have a Logitech Keyboard and mouse... I've also heard great things about it's predecessor especially regarding its surround sound. Do any of you have experiences with any of these? Which would you buy out the 4 and why? Do you have something else you'd suggest? Thank you all for your time!
  7. Thank you both very much! I may now continue building haha. Regarding control of the fans... Is there a way to link the fan speed to the cpu's temp? I mean, with the increase in CPU temp, will the fans speed up?
  8. Hello! I am currently in the middle of building my new pc. I have a Corsair Crystal 570X case, Gigabyte z390 Aorus Pro mobo and a corsair h115i Pro AIO. My question is, can I leave the two 4-pin sockets coming from the AIO unplugged? I am not using the 140mm fans that came with it. The radiator with the fans don't fit up top (clearance issues with mobo). So I have it mounted behind the 3 fans upfront. I have the 3 fans connected to sys-fan connectors on the motherboard. Will this work? Would I have any error messages form the AIO due to the fans not being plugged in? Thank you all in advance!
  9. I kinda sold myself the Dell one in the end. I was too afraid of the possible shortcomings of the Asus display. The Dell is also cheaper so... To be honest my only worry about the Dell was the colour reproduction, but from my research I found that it is not bad at all (and excellent for a TN panel). I Also thought that if I really don't like the colours or the size, I can always buy another display later and use this as a 2nd monitor or just sell it..... Thank you for your input, you did help me make my mind up!
  10. My current most played games are Assetto Corsa (which I play fairly competitive) and World of Tanks. I tend to play Battlefield as well and we do sometimes jump on Rainbow Six Siege with a few friends, play it intensively for a couple of days then drop it again for a little while. I also play a fair bit of RTS games. (Total War, Men of War etc.)
  11. I mean, would I notice a difference in a fast paced game between the two? Would the asus one be just fine or could it have major drawbacks?
  12. Thank you for your responses. This is exactly why I can't decide between the two. The Asus probably has better picture quality but the Dell has higher refresh rate and better response time. I'm afraid of ghosting on the 4ms VA panel ?. Or should I not be?
  13. Hi everyone, I'm currently building a pc and am looking for a monitor at the moment. I have an RTX 2080. I won't use it for video editing or anything like that. But I do play some games where I would enjoy nice visuals. Of these two: - Dell S2719DGF https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07HRZ57ZZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_nvsaDbT5JBHCM - ASUS XG32VQ https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B077831TBZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_lzsaDb8CK9P7R Which would you get? My budget is around £400 but I can push it a little bit if its worth it. Also, do any of you have these? What are your thoughts on them? As far as I'm aware these work fine with g-sync, if your experience says otherwise, please say so. Thank you all in advance!
  14. Thank you! Most people seem to recommend 3000 ram, so I guess the difference in performance doesn't justify the price difference between 3000 and 3200?!
  15. Ah I see, thanks! They are both available with free shipping so that doesn't affect me luckily.
  16. Thank you! Is there any specific reason you changed the cooler other than looks? I actually wouldn't mind doing that, I have messed about in Blender before. Mostly just having fun with the rigid body physics. Unfortunately though, I have to use Solidworks
  17. Sorry, that is what I meant. New CPUs from AMD and possible price drops on both sides. My bad.
  18. I understand, to be honest I haven't really considered AMD CPUs as the stuff I am (and will be) doing is not extremely demanding so I didn't think it would be of much benefit to me. I will take a look around never the less. Which Ryzens would you recommend? Thanks for the heads up! I will definitely wait for that. New CPUs and possible prices drops on both sides?! Wouldn't miss it.
  19. Hello everyone, I am going to build my first gaming PC in approximately a month. The PC will mostly be used for gaming, although some Solidworks projects will also be completed on it for university. My budget is around £1500, I am willing to go a bit higher (app. £100). For example, I am also considering the RTX 2080 which is about an extra £150 at the moment, do you think it is worth it? I am planning to use it with a 1440p 144Hz monitor. I do not have one yet so any recommendations are welcome (preferably I would like to avoid TN panels) my budget for the monitor is around £400 if that is even possible haha I also plan to overclock the CPU if I feel like I need to. (probably later down the line when games require it) Bellow is the parts list that I have put together. What do you all think about it? Anything I should change? Do you have any recommendations or advice?
