  1. I have one with a cable atm and the one I linked has a variation with the right connector. The problem with the cable is that it gets damaged and takes up too much space. I could of course try the one I linked but I wanted to check if there was a "name brand" alternative first. Have seen too many of Louis Rossmanns recent videos to not at least try to avoid giving these people money.
  2. Hi, I own a Ifi hip-dac 2 and it's cable solution is sub optimal. It has a USB AF port on the bottom that goes 180 degrees into a USB CM for your phone. In this config both connectors get pushed to the bottom of the pocket causing stress on the weak point that leads to it breaking. I would really like to have an adapter as mentioned in the title but the only stuff I can find is no name Chinese garbage on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/QIANRENON-U-Shape-Connector-Transfer-Converter/dp/B0BN9QPB5W/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?keywords=usb+180+degree+adapter&qid=1705508754&refinements=p_n_condition-type%3A2224371011&rnid=2224369011&s=electronics&sr=1-1 The problem is both that the USB AF port is inset and that there needs to be enough space for the thickness of both devices. My ideal solution would be to have the dac and my phone back to back with minimal spacing so that I stop destroying cables and so that it fits in my pockets. Any recommendations would be appreciated and if you have a good experience with the Amazon stuff that will work too.
  3. Eh according to Intel's website it only supports 128gb... https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/230496/intel-core-i913900k-processor-36m-cache-up-to-5-80-ghz/specifications.html
  4. Will try flashing a new image and come back to you on this.
  5. Oh, I didn't know that, just remembered me a few years ago setting up a two CPU server with 16 sticks of ddr3, none matching, all different capacities and speeds. Had to rearrange them like 50 times before it booted, but then it ran just fine, lol. Was the most jank thing I have ever done Thanks for everything!
  6. CPU performance is more important to me with the simulation and 3D rendering aspect of my work, as well as a minimum of 128 gb ram. Also, think I mentioned that a NVMe SDD does not have to be in the budget. Thanks for the suggestion, but my example still seems better to me.
  7. I am open to reading your comments, but please keep them to where they are asked for. My final comment on this is that I know rust, and the time investment to port all my work and learn something new to the level I know rust is not worth it right now. I would also like to refer you to this page where you can clearly see that Zig for example is a C derivative https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_C-family_programming_languages And as for Lisp it's clearly stated as High level, it has high performance often above say rust at high level tasks, but I clearly said that what I'm doing is low level, as far down as firmware. You would not be wise to use Lisp for that, I hope you would agree? And as for D as far as I know it doesn't have a large user base or macro/lib infrastructure not to even mention that it is not memory safe and uses a garbage collector for most things, like what??? As far as my understanding goes the main reason for garbage collectors is to avoid memory safety issues right?? All languages have their place, but rust best fits my use case. If you want to continue this discussion you may dm me but want to keep this to actually planing my new build.
  8. Oh, also everything depends on optimization, a well optimized, D, jai or Zig app can indeed run better than say a C app, but nothing, and I mean nothing in the software world (some firmware solution are better, but we are talking software here) is better than well optimized C, almost everything compiles down to C anyway which means that nothing that does that can be better than C that's just how these things worked.
  9. Okay, but the difference in price between the 13900 and 13900k here is literally 7$. For ram, do I need to say more than 10 year plus life expectancy? That's how long I plan on using this ram kit, so it will be worth it, also compare ddr5 prices to lddr4 ECC witch is what I would have to buy now to stay competitive with some of the new features of ddr5, then the prices are not so different. I gave my reasons for the Intel graphics card, sorry, but I'm one of those people that are willing to go for slightly worse to make sure we get a third competitor in the GPU scene, also I'm on Linux and even though AMD is better than NVIDIA on Linux that's on X not Wayland, intel wins Wayland every day. Again 10 year life with a PSU that has 10 years warranty, there is nothing more perfect than that. If I am going with the K then I better go with the Z790 chipset. Yes, I know that the case is not the best choice when it comes to performance or prize, but it is extremely good-looking according to me and that is more important to me in this case (pun intended) Thanks for the comments, but I hope you can see my side a bit more clearly now.
  10. Not really here to debate lang variants lol but okay here goes: Compile time is of no import to me so that point is null, zig? Faster than c or rust at low level, sorry, there is no way that's even close to true. For my work (highly optimized long simulations with massive data sets, most often galaxy simulations) there is nothing with the performance of rust, the ease of problem-solving and the safety for working with ca 100gb of active data in ram to be accessed for each simulation cycle. My eventual goal is to move on from software to a firmware solution on custom chips and doing the extra work to port say a zig app to rust to be able to flash it is just not worth it, planning is key and even if rust is not the best at some things it is what I need.
  11. Hi, Budget (including currency): ca 25000 kr (Swedish krona) Country: Sweden Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Blender, Rust code compiling, Heavy multithreaded CPU and GPU custom simulation software for astrophysics (basically I'm making the software so will build for the hardware I get), Starfield/Civ6/Civ5, Music recording and composing and some other random lightweight tasks, oh also training some multi layered machine learning models (not llms). Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): 1440p is the goal, going to be buying a monitor a year or so after this pc and my goal is 90hz minimum hopefully QDOLED if they come down in prize and resolution. Also need a clicky or tactile mechanical keyboard with a Swedish/Nordic layout if anyone knows of any. Would like to avoid Amazon and this is the list I have made: https://se.pcpartpicker.com/list/T3772m I would really prefer a 24 core cpu and the K is basically the same price as the KF, F and standard here. The reason for the 16gb A770 is that most of my tasks a CPU bound currently, and I really want Intel to make more GPUs, hoping to upgrade the GPU again when Celestial comes around. Heard something about ATX 3.0 power supplies being a good idea for "future proofing", from what I have seen the one I suggested falls under that standard. I already own a Samsung 980 pro 2tb gen 4 NVMe SSD. Really like the look of the north case and that's the only reason for that choice. And yes I need 128gb, would have chosen 192gb if the CPU supported it. This is my current setup: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/AlbinSjoegren/saved/kNWNQ7 I would have liked to only upgrade the GPU and maybe ram, but my motherboard does not support Rebar, so I guess I will need to do the full upgrade instead, sigh... Thanks guys /Albin
  12. Hi, Looking at upgrading my ram and GPU but wanted to check support for stuff first. Looking at buying the 16 gb A770 but can't see any support for Resizable Bar on the spec sheets, from what I have heard that GPU is total garbage without it. Also, can't find any local RDIMM 128gb sets on the second hand market, but I could find a well priced LRDIMM set, I am pretty sure the Motherboard does not support LDRIMM but wanted to check if anybody knows for sure and if I am not mistaken the only part that needs support for LRDIMM is the motherboard, noting on the CPU end right? Current setup: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/WkcLW4 Thanks /Albin
  13. Nice! However, I am in Sweden so no such luck for me
  14. Hi, If you guys don't mind me asking, where about are we now with QDOLED in monitors? What are some standard prices and are we starting to get mainstream yet? Basically, are there any a reasonable consumer could buy if they are around 1440p and 90hz? Thanks /Albin
