  1. I haven't sold my old GPU or power supply yet (I am having on to them for another month or so in case something happens with my GPU or new power supply). I also have my original case sitting in my garage. A coworker pointed out that if I do a full MOBO, CPU, and RAM upgrade I have a whole gaming computer to sell. That should more than cover a new MOBO, CPU, and RAM upgrade, so I might end up going that route instead.
  2. I wish. Within an hour of me there's 2 best buys and a couple mom and pop shops. Northern Utah doesn't have much as far as electronics stores go.
  3. I'm not using the 3200MHz anymore as it was causing crashes. I'm currently using an unknown 2666MHz kit from a mom and pop shop.
  4. Is the motherboard being bottom of the barrel (literally the cheapest B450 board I could get) going to matter with either of those?
  5. Side note that doest make much of a difference but is annoying: I have one USB port left and am not sure if a motherboard with more USB ports is a good option, or if i should go with an expansion card.
  6. Budget (including currency): $500(ish) USD Country: United States Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Halo (all of them), Cyberpunk 2077, heavily modded Skyrim, Starfield, and maybe some Civ 5 Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc.): I originally built a computer using these parts: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/ridge1234cole/saved/#view=MwY8Jx and I learned a lot from that. The case has next to no airflow, buying super cheap ram is not a good idea, neither is buying the cheapest motherboard. Since then I have made some upgrades: New Case: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/corsair-icue-220t-rgb-airflow-atx-mid-tower-smart-case-black/6370550.p?skuId=6370550 New fans: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/corsair-ll-series-120mm-case-cooling-fan-kit-with-rgb-lighting-multi/6181283.p?skuId=6181283 New power supply: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/corsair-cx-m-series-cx750m-semi-modular-low-noise-atx-power-supply-black/6459241.p?skuId=6459241 And a new GPU: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/gigabyte-nvidia-geforce-rtx-4070-ti-gaming-oc-12gb-gddr6x-pci-express-4-0-graphics-card-black/6527972.p?skuId=6527972 I added a WIFI card that I got as a present and don't know the details of. I also had some crashing issues due to the cheap RAM and now have some 2666 MHz RAM I got from the local mom and pop store. I don't know what it is. As you might expect, I am thoroughly bottle necking my GPU. I had task manager open while gaming last night and had my RAM nearly maxed out (15/16 GB) and my CPU between 90 and 100% utilization, while my GPU was below 60% utilization the entire time. I want to have performance where my monitor (https://www.bestbuy.com/site/aoc-g2-series-c27g2-27-led-curved-fhd-freesync-premium-monitor-displayport-hdmi-vga-black-red/6400436.p?skuId=6400436) is the worst thing in my setup right now. Sadly, I'm not getting near the full FPS of my display with any settings in cyberpunk or halo infinite, and don't see a significant FPS difference between minimum settings and psycho settings in Cyberpunk. The games look far better than with my original 5600 XT, but I would like to use the GPU I spent so much money on. Now to my question: What would be the best upgrade path to stop kneecapping my GPU? Should I go with something like a Ryzen 7 5800 that I can find on eBay for around $180, or would it be a better idea to bite the bullet and get a latest gen CPU with a new MOBO? Is there something better in-between those 2 options? Would getting better RAM be a better investment? Should I upgrade my MOBO whether or not I get a latest gen CPU (I honestly have no clue how much a better motherboard effects performance) or will that make no difference since I'm not going to be overclocking? Is my power supply holding me back? I'm not having thermal issues with anything except my VRM's and I don't think that would cause the issues I am experiencing. I'm dealing with a higher tier of hardware than I am familiar with and don't have any idea what direction I should head in. Thanks!!!!
  7. So I got drunk last night and started watching some YouTube videos from vaatividya. Normally his videos look as smooth as any other channel, but they looked choppy to me. I decided to check if it was me or him, so I watched some Joshua Weissman videos and some LTT stuff. It turns out I can tell when a video is below 60fps much better drunk than I can when sober. And I mean much better. Normally 24FPS looks fine to me, but movies look more like slide shows than smooth film when I’m drunk. 60FPS looks more like 24 when I’m drunk. I have an iPhone 8 and a 60Hz screen, so I can’t check higher refresh rates unfortunately, but I seem to be much more sensitive to smooth movement when drunk.
  8. I recently built my first computer after watching EVERY Linus build guide I could find. As Linus says all the time, he has small hands. I did not think about how big that would make parts like a CPU or RAM stick look. Holy shit. Parts are small. I though that a Ryzen 5 3600 was about a cm larger in length and width, ram was a cm taller and an inch longer, my Radeon 5600 XT was going to be an inch taller and 2” longer, the wraith stealth cooler from AMD was 2cm wider than it is. I was quite surprised when everything was so tiny.
  9. So there’s not really any advantage to spending $150 on a keyboard over spending about ~$50? Other than things like RGB and addressable macros?
  10. Then why do they always stress using an anti static wrist strap in LTT build guides?
  11. I’m building my first PC and don’t want to buy an anti static wrist strap. I don’t really have any other uses for one, and don’t want to waste the $10 that I could spend on a slightly better keyboard. How bad of an idea is it to cut up an old pair of headphones, plug the 3.5mm headphone jack into the ground in an outlet, tape the wires to my skin, and use that as an ant-static wrist strap? Or to simply take some old sprinkler wire and do a similar thing?
  12. I just ordered the parts for my first pc. I have a ryzen 5 300 and a Radeon 5600XT and 16GB ram. I don’t understand why I should spend 50+ USD on peripherals. I have a Logitech M510 that has been working fine for gaming on my laptop, and while I understand why you would want to spend a bit of money on a keyboard (the keyboards where I work are shit and I hate typing on them), I don’t get why people spend $50+ on a keyboard or mouse. What’s the benefit?
