    AORUS RGB Build

Started building my first ever gaming PC tonight, I got as far as installing the CPU and cooler to the motherboard, put the RAM in the motherboard then screwed it into the pre-installed standoffs in the case. I then got the six case fans in and the power supply, ran the cables through. Stopped now because I need the M.2 NVMe drive to turn up now as well as needing to buy a USB hub and then install the graphics card before unplugging all the cables again and trying my best at cable management. Here she is in her unfinished state, I’ll keep the log updated as I go along and then again in future when I do the hardline watercooling.
  2. Hi all, Was trying to tinker with ram timings in bios and the computer now fails to post giving me these error codes: dE, Ad, C2, 10, 01 and 60. Ive tried resetting the CMOS but it still doesn’t post, again giving the same codes. Anyone know how to fix this?

    Think I’ve killed something?

Ok consider this post answered by myself because for some reason I started swapping round all four modules and powering back on and incredibly after 6 permutations the system post again and bios shows all 32GB so what the fuck actually happened these electrics and their angry pixies leave me in constant bewilderment

    Think I’ve killed something?

Tried taking out all the ram sticks now and it didn’t change anything except give another error code “46” and wouldn’t turn off again using the power button, all that happened was the fans spun faster wtf

    Graphics problem BUT....

OK running it in compatibility mode has entered a whole new world of problems. Constantly getting bootstrap error, .dat error, directories error, etc pop-ups now, tried taking compatibility mode off and still causes the same issues, even done clean installs again and still having the same issues. My god why does it have to be complicated getting an old game to work.

    Graphics problem BUT....

I have a problem with trying to run SWAT 3 from my steam library, so I titled this as a graphics problem, but I don't think it is the hardware which is an issue. When I first started up the game on my new PC it played in green instead of full range colour, I thought this was a resolution issue because the game was made to all the old PC monitor standard sizes. So I picked 1024 x 728 in the games resolution settings then exited and changed the resolution of my display output using the nvidia control panel to match this and it worked - it started playing the game in full colour but the game was extremely stutter and laggy, and well you can see my build specs below so again I don't think it's because my PC is too underpowered for a game from 2004. I went into the in-game graphics settings again and noticed I could change the graphics from "Graphics Driver" to "Software", I picked software and the game immediately started playing very smoothly and I got an hour or so into it. After restarting my computer though, no matter what I do I cannot get the game to open again. It gets to it's loading screen and then just closes itself and the task ends in task manager. Any ideas?

How can you run compatibility mode with a game through steam? If I right click the desktop icon it doesn't give me the usual options.

What do you do for a living???

Not that anyone cares, but here's mine: I started out working as a Roads Design Engineer for a Local Authority (Civic/ Regional level Government) while I went to University part-time to get a Bachelour of Science (with Honours) Degree in Civil Engineering. One day I got really bored of spending my entire working day designing car parks, local roads and maybe the occasional small footbridge and wanted a little more variance in my day. It was then that I moved to a Contractor as a Site Engineer (later promoted to Site Agent/ Site Manager) and I was very lucky that my employer continued to allow me to go part time to University. I left this job because I was playing wingman/ moral support for a friend at University who was going to an open evening at a Consulting Engineers but didn't want to go alone so I went with him and got talking to the Regional Director for Structures at the event and was offered a job there and then and I accepted it because at the time they were getting extremely prestigious jobs and Civil/ Structural Engineering was at it's pre-2009 financial collapse peak and there were opportunities to be seconded to the American offices and it is my dream to emigrate to the United States. However the 2009 financial collapse happened and I was made redundant (unemployed) from the Consulting Engineers after being there for almost two years. I can't really complain though because I got some incredible and condensed experience in that role. As it was during the financial collapse I struggled to find a job in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering because the job pool was flooded with very highly qualified Engineers but no jobs for them and you had cases where fully Chartered Engineers were applying for Graduate Engineer roles as it meant they would be in a job and happily accepted the massive reduction in wages for that. I was unemployed for two months before I couldn't stand being unemployed anymore and took the first job I could find which was with B&M Bargains (a low-cost discount store in the UK) and I hated it. Retail work is truly terrible. I used my spare time to apply to other jobs and by chance in a conversation with one of my ex-lecturers at University I was given the details of my current employer and told they were looking for a Mechanical Engineer, so I bought a copy of "The Mechanical Engineer's Pocketbook" and I was amazed at just how much overlapping skills there is between Civil/Structural and Machanical Engineering. I applied for the job, got an interview and then the job. I've been working here now for almost 10 years and been eventually promoted over time to Technical Director where my job now contains very little design element. I oversee and manage a team of Engineers, Technicians and Laboratory Assistants who carry out the technical functions of the company. I really enjoy my job and I have been very lucky that my employer has allowed me over these years to complete Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy postgraduate Degrees and during that time I have been professionally recognised as first an Incorporated Engineer and then later as a Chartered Engineer. I have been very fortunate in my working life and I love what I do now.
  10. Mixed feelings: on one hand I would now need to sit down to pee but on the other hand I could probably have some fun as an overpowered megalomanical psychotic Nazi loli I guess.
  11. Just a quick update on my rig specifications due to overclocking now I have something stable:

    AMD Ryzen 7 2700X: 4.30 GHz (+0.7 GHz) at 1.39V,

AORUS RGB DDR4-3200: 3,733 MHz (+533 MHz) with timings 18-20-20-20-40-2T,

Palit Geforce RTX 2080 Ti GamingPro OC: 1,856 MHz Core Clock (+206 MHz) with 7,875 MHz Memory Clock (+875 MHz).

Personally I am very happy with the gains I got from overclocking, especially when you consider that all the components are air cooled with their stock coolers.

CPU gain is 19.44%, GPU gain is 12.48% on core clock and 12.50% on memory clock and RAM gain is 16.65%.

    Program idea

Hi all, I am going to pitch a program, its functions and what I expect from it and hopefully someone can tell me what kind of programming level someone would need to be to accomplish it. Hopefully it is nothing too complicated and something I could learn and create over the course of say 12 to 18 months. Essentially I want to take a list of all my companies part numbers and then our next biggest five competitors part numbers and put them into a database that essentially matches them equivalent part for equivalent part. The user interface of the program will simply be that the user types into a search box any of the five competitors part numbers and it provides my companies equivalent part number. As part numbers can be complicated with spaces and different characters it would be nice if the search function returned "likely" competitor part numbers in the instance where a user has mistyped the part number or is mistaken (but close to correct) and can then click one of the suggested part numbers which would then follow back into generating my companies equivalent part number. It would be really nice if when my part number popped up it would also give a simple table showing some pertinent technical information (such as mechanical properties, chemical composition, etc) and maybe a jpg line drawing of the product with some basic dimensions along with a link that when pressed would open a webpage to the product page on our website. How complicated would this be to make? It wouldn't have to have a flashy UI, it simply has to be clean, simple and functional. Thanks in advance guys

    Need some help overclocking

OK first of all, thank you to all the guys in here helping me out, it has been a great amount of help and I love these forums for it. In close to this thread I was able to tweak some things and get more performance: CPU = 4.30 Ghz @ 1.39V, RAM = 3,600MHz @ XMP Profile 1 (auto timings), GPU = +157Mhz to base clock and +997Mhz on memory clock. Happy with the thermals, happy with the small increases in performance. I did get the RTX to +202MHz on base clock and the thermals were not bad but it was artifacting space invaders all over the screen.
  15. Hi all, Currently trying to get some gentle overclocking on my components. So far my best settings are: CPU = 4.2GHz, 1.40V VCore, CPUVcore and VCoreSOC loadline calibration both set to Turbo, RAM = 3400Mhz at timings of 18-20-20-20-40-2T. The problem is that when I done my benchmarks on Userbenchmark, the results are below expected across the board: UserBenchmark: Results CPU-Z: Results Any pointers at all here? Really appreciate all the help I get on these forums, and I apologise in advance for being a scrub.

    Need some help overclocking

It's currently air cooled with the stock cooler so I am being gentle with it I guess, I tickled it up to 4.25GHz at the same voltage and it's running stable in CPU-Z: New CPU-Z: Results (New)

I dialled back the loadline calibration, there is another level above it (Extreme). Should I dial it back another level?

    RTX 2080 Ti issues

Thanks everyone the driver install worked a treat and I can now play games! I am doing some gentle OC on my components now and I noted when I was benching my CPU in CPU-Z that my GPU clock is 300 Mhz, surely that isn't correct? Or is that it simply idling? I think there is a problem because even on Userbenchmark the RTX 2080 Ti is scoring WAYYYY below expected. Even with an overclock it says my 2700X is performing below average. Bench results here: CPU-Z Results RTX results here: UserBenchmark Results I amlso having real troubles getting decent latency out of my RAM. I have upped the multiplier to 3400 and it's stable (it was originally 3200 after all) and changed my timings to 18-20-20-20-40 which I found from an article on Toms Hardware discussing the exact RAM used. He was able to get it to 3733 at those settings but when I try that it keeps resetting the system. Would really appreciate any advice!

    RTX 2080 Ti issues

Hi all, Card in question is Palit RTX 2080 Ti GamingPro OC (not overclocked, is as is straight from the box. Been trying to play games on this and it’s basically been a giant bag of dicks and I have no idea why so here’s what I’ve done: 1. Played World of Warships but it crashes unless you play it at 1080p with HDR off, if played at 1080p it will play stabile at around 177 FPS on ultra high settings. As soon as you move it to 4K it crashes and hard locks the computer requiring a manual restart, 2. Installed steam and only installed one game so far (Subnautica) and I got it to load into a game with resolution set to 4K but it hard locks the system after about 30 seconds give or take a few seconds each time, same thing happens in 1080p, 3. Installed Fortnite and it hard locks on loading screen regardless of resolution. I have tried all three games at both 4K and 1080p with and without HDR at both resolutions. I have tried using driver from Nvidia directly and also the latest driver from Palits site and it makes no difference. Anyone know what’s going on here? Pretty enraging having a £1,200 card that’s doing nothing.

    RTX 2080 Ti issues

None, it is a brand new build (specs in profile) it’s 2am here in the U.K. and I just finished proofing a technical paper so I’m going to sleep now. Thanks everyone for the pointers: I will update this thread when I use DDU and fresh drivers tomorrow

    RTX 2080 Ti issues

I don’t have a GSync monitor, I’ve tried outputting at my TVs native resolution (3840px by 2160px at 60 Hz) and at a scaled down 1080p at 60 Hz. Each time chosen through the Nvidia Configurator.
