  1. but what about the app crashing? Could that be RAM related, or is "event id 1000" just a catchall error and windows doesn't really understand what is going on? I think I did disable XMP by manually setting the RAM speed to 2933mhz, is that not so? The memory should run at its fastest speeds, but I think that the CPU can only handle about 3000mhz, but the mobo is even less (the bios is from 2019, but I'm afraid to update it in case it bricks the whole thing).
  2. (this is not about the BSODs, and I just know they said RAM was an issue, I dont remember the actual codes) I have been having RAM (I think) related BSOD issues and been trying to resolve them by turning my mhz speeds down (from 3600 XMP to like 2800, which is stable). but the last 2 days (since testing (I think) 2933mhz, I have been getting crashes in exposure x7 (photo editor like lightroom). The most recent one shows as an "event id 1000" in event viewer, but I can't find what that really means online. I just updated Exposure from version 7.12 something to 7.13 something, so that might help, but can anyone tell me if "Event ID 1000" could be RAM related, or if it is just some odd thing? my specs: windows 11 (newly installed) 3400G from 2019 Asrock x470 Master SLI/AC (2019) XFX 6700xt (2022 FINALLY!) corsair h100i aio (2019) Crucial Ballistix 32GB 3600 (at ~2933mhz i think. From 2021 i think) drivers and updates all newest.
  3. Perfect! Yeah, I understand that I need it for all that (nice to see a checklist of stuff I'll need to do.) I was just wondering about after the install and updates, whether it would break or something.
  4. Thanks! Does windows 11 absolutely require an internet connection ALL the time, or can I install with one, and then use the PC without one after? I might be moving to a part of the world where the internet isn't easy or unlimited, or goes down often, so I don't want to be stuck with the system not working because of that.
  5. Never thought I'd be doing this, but I'm going to install windows 11. Health check says all I need is the tpm thing, but the BIOS has only 2 options (AMD CPU TPM, and route to LPC TPM). I think I want the CPU one, but I'm not sure if there is more stuff past that that I need to deal with, or if win 11 is smart enough to be able to turn secure boot on, CSM off, whatever. I can't find any videos that just tell how to install it without a lot of extra stuff, like "if the bios mode is set to legacy, blah blah blah".
  6. Ok, then I will wait and upgrade when I can do both. I don't think that it would be a big enough upgrade (just the GPU) based on this and other things I heard about the 3400g. I will try it for sure. I have heard of that, and even heavy games working on Threadripper CPUs, but I would think that that would be more of a "solution" for high end CPU's, not the low end one like mine (it was the best APU available at the time, and literally only months or weeks old). I will definitely give it a shot though, it sure can't hurt.
  7. Thanks, that's perfect (always afraid to mess with things like that in case they break something) I think that a new processor would be nice, but would a better APU really help more than getting a GPU and keeping my APU? I always hear that the GPU is the issue with graphics stuff, but the processor obv does a lot of work too. The issue is that I only have about $500 to throw around, and that would need to grow for just a GPU, much less both (and I can only imagine what an APU must cost at this point).
  8. I have to run Lr and Ps for school (not sure why they are so interested in programs that take MORE resources than needed and continuously run in the background, but anyway, I have to use it). I have had them before, but I want to make my experience as good as possible this time, so I have a few questions: 1. Is there a way to stop it from continuously running in the background? Like, can I stop it from being on my startup tab in Task Manager? I know it needs resources when I work in it, but I need those for things when I'm not using Ps or Lr... 2. My desktop has a 3400g APU, 32GB @3600mhz RAM, NO GPU, and a ton of different storage drives (OS is on SSD). My laptop has a 5600something CPU, 3050 GPU, 16GB RAM @???, and one each, 500GB and 1TB NVME drives (smaller is OS and programs, 1TB is games and other storage stuff if I need it.) I want most work to be on the desktop, so is there a way to have all my files in the cloud or something so I can access them on both machines? Or would it be better/easier to just plug in an external drive when I need it? 3. Obviously, the GPU-less build is not great, but would a 6000xt be an ok upgrade from the APU, while also being something that Adobe can make use of? Thanks
  9. I think that might work. How many amps does that use? I could plug it into the usbc (which CHARGES at 100w, but I font know how much it can go in the other direction...)
  10. I built a tray for my laptop and have two 120mm fans on it that are supposed to help air go into the little 40mm intakes that Asus put on the bottom (where ones knees would go lol) of the laptop. Anyway, I'm waiting on the part that adapts the fan header connection to USB so I can actually power the fans. The one I got has a splitter built in, so it can power two fans, has a switch to turn them on and off, and then the USB plug. What I'm wondering, is whether there is a simple way to control the fan speed through software, or some bit of plug and play hardware (hopefully a knob or something). Any ideas? I'm no electrical engineer or elecchicken, so any manufacture of parts needs to be simple and non mathy LOL.
  11. That makes sense. More curiosity: Why is Userbenchmarks so bad? Is it because of the vastly different setups used to "test" or is it the user error involved in those tests?
  12. so where do I go for info? just curious
  13. I want to get a 4x8GB set. Will that affect anything? or just make it run better (I saw the video LTT did on it and 4 sticks seemed to work better in most things than dual channel only) (sorry, I meant to edit my last post not make a new one)
  14. That makes sense. I use DAvinci Resolve 17 free which I hear uses MOSTLY CPU, but that means it uses SOME GPU, so the extra RAM should help that process right? (if not, would it help transfer speeds? I am also upgrading my project storage to NVMe, so would the RAM even affect that?) I'm not gonna use the old RAM since it is only a 4 slot MoBo, otherwise I would love 48GB of RAM LOL. Since it will probably work at SOME speed, I think I'll get the 3600 since it is only $38 more... or is there some chance it won't work at all?
  15. By the way, I DO game, but this is mostly for work. That said, I wonder if this is getting into the realm of very diminished returns on investment... Would a AMD WX2100 be a better investment?
