  1. Thanks I tried that. They confirmed that their default setting is already set to passive.
  2. For the longest time, my Apple II Magic Mouse was laggy, and so was my bluetooth keyboard, on my Apple Mac Mini 2018. I tried re-installing everything, moving the computer closer to the mouse, talking nicely to it, everything you can imagine. My Apple Mac Mini was connected to an external SSD drive for Time Machine backups. Recently I read somewhere that SSD drives on USB C ports were "noisy" in that they put out alot of RF noise. The drive was enclosed in a steel case but I wrapped it in foil anyway, and but my laggy mouse problem remained. And then I realized what the problem was. It's not the SSD drive, it's the freakin' cheap USB cable. It wasn't shielded. I went to my local shop and picked up a shielded USB-C cable, and replaced the original cable connecting the SSD Drive and voila! My mouse is now fast, responsive, accurate and smooth. No more lag, not even from my keyboard. That's it! Just wanted to share. I hope my solution works for you. Mark Prince https://www.2much.net
  3. I have a problem with FTP that I can't seem to solve. At 1 particular hosting provider, I have 2 x virtual servers (linux), 1 dedicated server (linux), and 1 virtual server running windows. My FTP program is set to allow 12 simultaneous files to be transferred at a time. When I FTP to either of the virtual servers or to the dedicated server, I get errors. "COnnecting timed out or server hung up. The server you are connecting to may be configured to limit the number of connections you are allowed to make". But I do not get this error when FTPing to the virtual windows server. All 100 megabits or so of files transfer in about 2 seconds. Beautiful performance. The only way to not remove the errors on the linux machines is to drop the simultaneous file limit in my FTP program to 4 or 5, which really cuts into the speed. My host provider insists there is nothing wrong, and that max simultaneous file limit is set to 50. Any help is appreciated! Mark
  4. Hi HonzaPov, Hi das_hans, No to this day, I still do not have the issue resolved, Apple has acknowledged the issue but since there have been a few OS updates since then I doubt it will ever be resolved. But then again even if it was resolved, I do not think I would use it. Having the Dell 49" monitor act as 2 different "virtual" monitors is actually perfect. When using Skype's screen capture and similar software, it accurately sees 1 virtual monitor or the other, making them super easy to use. For all regular applications I can move each around between both monitors as you normally would. Programs like Magnet also see things perfectly. Photoshop and Video editing also works exactly as I would expect. Even Apple Mission Control and Dock placement work properly. I can think of no reason at all to have my setup work as 1 single monitor instead of 2 virtual monitors. I'm sure there are probably some applications out there but none that I can think of. Also: It has been 8 months since I have been using this setup and I'm really happy with the purchase. My only complaints, and these are minor, are : - The connectors in the back of the monitor are impossible to get to and impossible to see unless I get on my hands and knees to loop up at it. - The dual monitor issue in this thread requires that 2 cables be used to drive it instead of just 1, making for slightly messier cable management. - The Mac mini seems to "forget" one of the 2 monitors when waking up from sleep mode sometimes, though this has not happened since the latest OS update. Other than that the monitor is razor sharp, runs nice and cold, and looks drop-dead sexy on my desk. Very much worth the money.
  5. So Bell added IP cameras to my home security system and that introduced all kinds of problems as I discussed in this thread. But now I see something else they did. They added a garage door gateway to manage them from my smartphone, but they did this by connecting the gateway (A Chamberlain / Liftmaster), to another Wifi Router, to my main Wifi Router. WHAT??!? I don't understand why they did this. The Chamberlain gateway will already see my main wifi router. Why did bell find it necessary to add another router? This plus the IP Camera Wifi routers make a total of 6 Wifi routers all in a single 10ft by 10ft room. Why the F aren't they just connected to each other via Ethernet and an Ethernet switch?
  6. Hi all, Bell installed some new IP cameras for me today that connect to a PoE lg innotek adc-w100. This unit powers the camera over Ethernet, and grabs the video, and sends it via Wifi to my router. There are 4 cameras, and 4 x lg innotek adc-w100's. They are all in the same room and literally inches away from my Bell Home 3000 Router, and my Network Switches. Why Wifi? Can't the lg innotek adc-w100 just connect directly to Ethernet ports on my network switches? The performance from this camera setup is pretty disappointing. First, the video format is - UGH - FLASH! And next, it easily takes about 30-40 seconds just to load video from the camera. (PS While viewing the cameras tonight for the second time, my LAN crashed. I had to reboot each item one at a time until the network returned to normal. ) If anyone knows if the lg innotek adc-w100 can be directly connected to an Ethernet port on my network switch instead of WiFi'ing 2 inches, please let me know. 7. Hi. I'm looking for the ultimate, Mono, Wireless Headset for voice calls. I need my headset to connect with my 2018 iMac that lets me make and receive skype calls and phone calls, and lets me pair to my iPhone at the same time so I can use both devices with the same headset. I am also playing music via iTunes though the headphone port to desktop speakers. Currently I am using a Logitech headset which works well enough, but its clunky. The hard switch requires that I take the headset off to hard-switch between my Phone and iMac, and the battery does not last very long, etc. I tried the Plantronics Legend but it was awful. Not only was the sound full of clicks and static, but very often music would stop playing through my speakers and start playing through the headset by itself. (Yes I updated the firmware and software). So far I am leaning towards buying the Jabra Talk 45 headset as it supports 2-device connections. I was going to go for the Apple Earpods but apparently they won't connect to 2 devices at the same time. Any advice is appreciated!
  8. By the way, I came up with a temporary fix. A DUMB temporary fix, but it is what it is. The Dell U4919DW monitor can actually function as 2 separate monitors, and the Mac Mini supports multiple monitors. So check this out: I connected both a USB-C Cable AND and the HDMI cable, from the Mac Mini to the Dell Monitor. And after a couple of minutes of messing around, I actually got it to work. The Mac Mini is in dual monitor / extended desktop mode. Essentially, it is running as dual 2560x1440 monitors! This is kinda cool, and kinda frustrating at the same time.
  9. Hi Supa - Thanks for the suggestion, but does using this method impede performance such as reduce the refresh rate? Hi Brooksie359, Thanks I will try this too, though I would think that the HDMI cable provided by Dell with the monitor would be HDMI2.0a would it not? I can't imagine anyone selling a monitor with lots of bells and whistles, but not including a proper cable to support it.
  10. Hi Everyone! I just purchased a Dell Ultrawide U4919DW and a 2018 Mac Mini and for some reason the best resolution I can get is is 3840x1080. I should be able to get 5120x1440 native resolution as both the Monitor and the Mac Mini support this. I have tried connecting by the included Dell-included USB-C Cable and the Dell-included HDMI Cable, but there's no improvement. In fact, I think the HDMI cable may provide a lower refresh rate but I can't really tell. I tried connecting the Monitor to my 3 year old PC Via Display Port cable and I get the high res 5120x1440 mode - Just not on the Mac Mini. The Mac Mini Display Properties does NOT show a resolution setting to me. Instead my choice is "default" and "scaled". If I hold down the option key and click scaled I can see that the resolution only goes as high as 3840x1080. I talked to Apple support and they have opened a case for me. They were very nice and spent about 25 minutes testing a few things. They were great. I called Dell and, well, lets just say it wasn't the best tech support call I've ever had... Anyway, if anyone has a similar setup and knows what I need to get this working right I'd love some advice. Thanks in advance!
  11. Ok here's a head-scratcher... In My home lan I have a few computers and peripherals and normally get about 500mb/s download according to Speedtest.net. But when my Alienware Area 51 PC is connected, and turned off, my speed drops to about 1Mb/s. If I boot-up the Alienware PC, the speed returns to normal. Only when it's off does it slow me down to a crawl. Can anyone tell me why this might be happening?
  12. Hello! My problem is this: I have Bell Fibe 1.5Gb/s service. The modem speed test confirms that the speed is there, but when I test with Speedtest.net or the Speedtest App, I get only about 450mb/s. I used to get about 980mb/s but no longer. I tried testing from 2 different iMacs and a PC. I tried disconnected every other device and disabling Wifi. Nothing internally seems to be causing the speed problem. It also does not seem to be wire related. I am using Cat6 cable everywhere, and D-Link DGS-1016A Switches. Any suggestions are appreciated !
