I solved my issue following this youtube video: It seemed that the master password sites were generating the correct password but I was using the wrong control key when submitting the password (RCtrl+Enter).
-
Yeah I've removed the CMOS battery, removed the laptop batter, removed the power, held the power button for 30 seconds, done it several times to be sure.
-
I have a Dell Precision M4800 that we used for a project several years ago and typically noone documented the bios password which was set. I've tried removing the CMOS battery and discharging all power but that doesnt seem to do the trick. I've also tried a couple of sites which claim to offer dell master passwords but neither seems to work. https://bios-pw.org http://www.tech-faq.com/reset-dell-bios-password.html Does anyone have any ideas or recommendations on how I can reset the BIOS on Dell Precision M4800 laptops? I don't really want to have to call Dell Support because well, its a painful experience, and the laptop was supplied by a partner from the project so we wont have it on our Dell account so getting them to support it will be difficult. #sigh Any advice gratefully received!

Unable to start Intel Extreme Tuning Utility

So I installed the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility but it wont start and claims that there is another tuning app installed, however I'm pretty sure there isn't... I've restarted (obviously, duh), and also reinstalled the app with no luck. I have some errors in the event log when it fails to load, but no idea why it could be failing. Does anyone have any ideas? I have the QuietComfort 35 IIs, one of the best things I've ever bought... really worth the money and awesome battery life.
-
Well that's a lot of reassurance, cheers guys! Card just arrived and benchmark results look good. I'd like 2-3 year use out of it tbh, which I realise will make it a 4-5 yearold card at that time so it may be pushing it. I had a 970 which I was happy with and would have stuck with for at least another 12 months but it went and died on me so found myself present with ridiculously priced GPUs I didn't want to buy, the only cost effective replacement at the time was a 1050 Ti, so this is a nice little upgrade.
-
I've never bought second hand hardware, mostly because there's always a little niggle in my mind around "what if it dies on me?", I guess I like the warm fuzzy feeling of a manufacturer warranty. Maybe I'm just a snob!

I've not be bowled over by the price point on the new RTX cards and don't intend on buying the best of the best ever, simply because I don't need it and I simply can't justify the premium price tag. I was going to wait and get an RTX 2070 however looking at the price of the 2080s right now I'd expect the 2070s to be asking around £600+ (GBP), which is CRAZY. Yesterday browsing cards on Amazon I found a 1070 Ti for only £388, I've not seen a sub £450 card in over 18 months so felt that it could be a bargain not to be missed, so bought it... Have I made a mistake??? buying a last gen card right on the cusp of the release of the 2070... am I a moron??? I went for the Zotac 1070 Ti Mini (http:///www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B076S4RT1J) which from what I've seen seems to have very good reviews.
