If I were you I would just open it up and check the connections to the harddrive and the motherboard, maybe even try swapping slots on the board as I had to do. If it is something that simple then you might save yourself hours of troubleshooting.

What happens after the black screen? Does it ever come back up on its own or do you have to reboot the system? I've had this before and instead of it being driver related, it was actually that the SATA port on my motherboard connected to my HDD was damaged. Took me a while to get to the bottom of that. I moved it to a different port and it was okay.

Just a question - If I wanted to keep my phones on one VLAN, and my Pc's on another, would that mean that I'm not able to feed my PC's network connection through the phone? I'm sure we've all seen the phones that have two network ports, one for incoming from the switch, and one to carry that over to a PC. If VLAN's are set on a switchport level, does that mean I just couldn't use that feature? Or is there someway that a switch can differentiate between the devices and put out 2 VLAN's from that one port?

Hi guys, I have been building pc's for a little while now, but never ventured into water cooling, not even ever buying an AIO. I was wondering what the cheapest (roughly) custom cooling setup could cost. I'm not talking about the PC components, just the water cooling parts really. Imagine this is for a system with just one GPU and relatively large case I have little to no idea what exactly it takes, I'm thinking a pump, a reservoir, a few pipes, and blocks for the CPU and GPU, is that right? How much would the most basic config of these parts cost?

Hi guys, I've listed my current specs below. I want to upgrade my board, CPU and RAM, just to future proof really. I originally bought those parts 2nd hand as I was on such a budget, and I just think it would be cool to move on now. I'm still on a budget, and I think I've worked out a couple of options here. Could you maybe advise me which option would be best please, bearing in mind I am planning to keep my GPU? I'm still on quite a budget but would like to buy these parts new. I will be running at 1080p on a 144Hz monitor. I've done some checks and I don't think either CPU should bottleneck the GPU too much... All of the benchmarks on the two drives are looking fairly standard too

@Fasauceome @minibois Hi guys, Thanks for the suggestions, I haven't installed the mobo sata drivers yet and it seems okay. If this does happen again, how would you recommend testing the PSU for faults? Will just using a voltmeter be okay?

Okay then yeah, let me try that. I will be away from the PC for a few hours now so maybe I can just leave it running and see what happens

I always install all the drivers from the MOBO manufacturer page as soon as I install the OS if that's what you're asking

Yeah, last time I had this problem about 4-6 weeks ago I did a memtest. It was one I had to save to a USB drive and boot from the drive to run. I left it going for well over 2 hours and it came back with no errors. I've also never had a memory error on the BSOD either if that helps?

@minibois Hi man, I should have said originally that I am actually on my 3rd SSD I thought the SSD might be the problem when this happened around 6 months ago, and again a month ago, so I just bought new ones. Now I am starting to wonder if it might be PSU maybe damaging the SSD's or something like that, but I just don't know!! Also worth noting potentially, the games I'm running are all stored on a 1TB HDD, not the SSD, which only has the OS and drivers

Yeah, so I look into the errors (there is a wide range), they're mostly related to the boot sector I think? But yeah, this is strange because it's after the PC has booted that the crashes occur. Yesterday it crashed in a Rocket League match, and the BSOD said "Bad system config info". Then when I rebooted it had one about the boot file again. I left it overnight and this morning it booted up fine, I ran stresstests etc. and then it randomly crashed and BSOD when I'd left it idle. Actually had to reinstall the OS a couple hours ago cus I just couldn't get it to boot

Hey man, I literally just realised that my signature was outdated! I've got it up to date now, but it's a Corsair CX450M

This might be a really simple question, but I can't find any guidance online! The Amazon page for my GPU (Powercolor Red Dragon RX580 8GB) says that it takes 125W. But then further on, it says it recommend a 500w PSU. The manufacturer website says 500w as well. Well I have a 450w PSU, but everything in my system combines to less than 450; Why does it say you'll need a 500w for the GPU? I've recently been suffering random crashes/BSOD's/slowdowns/SSD corruption and I'm starting to wonder if my PSU isn't beefy enough for my system. Sometimes I literally have to reinstall Windows10 because my SSD is just refusing to work with me after these crashes. It will work for a few days/weeks after reinstallation and then start to crash again. This system was the first one I ever built, so I may have just bought an insufficient PSU. I have stress-tested the CPU, GPU and RAM and all is good.

@Zberg @GoldenLag @Niklos You guys are legends. Thanks for helping me out here. I appreciate it a lot. So you're talking about a 3600 right? What about a 3800x with a 2070s? Is that a bit CPU heavy? I'm not presuming it will bottleneck on the GPU, I'm just wondering if I could cut back on that CPU and put the savings into a 2080s. Am I making sense? Sometimes I'm not sure if I word things correctly ahaha

The reason I got put off the 3700x and actually the 3800x too is because I read this: "Comparing the 3700X to Intel’s i7-9700K shows that, when overclocked, the 3700X is 26% faster at 64-core computations but 13% slower for gaming and desktop (sub eight core performance).... the 3700X offers reasonable value to full time media encoders but general desktop users, gamers and even streamers should look elsewhere." What do you guys think of that quote? And what makes these CPU's pair better with the 2070s in your opinion?
