I'm trying to build a home server that will be used for a few things : • NAS Storage (FreeNAS as the main OS with ZFS software RAID) • A few VMs for developpement web servers and labbing (Ubuntu / Arch) Futur potential use cases : • Small Minecraft Server (3 - 5 persons) • Plex media server I've looked at a few options and need help on what would be the most appropriate setup for my use cases : Custom Build (Pros: Modular and Evolutive) • i3-8100 • 2x8GB RAM (ECC ?) • B365M Motherboard with at least 4 SATA Interfaces and Gigabit Ethernet • 2x4TB WD RED in RAID 1 (To begin with) • Corsair CX550M PSU • Silverstone or Fractal Design case Old Optiplex from Ebay (Pros: Cheap) • i5-4590 / i5-4570 • 16GB RAM • + New SSD • + 2x4TB WD RED in RAID 1 Think Client or Mini PC and Drive Bays (Pros: Power Efficent) • i5-4590T • 8GB RAM • 250GB SSD • + ORICCO 4 Drives Bay • + 2x4TB WD RED in RAID 1 Thanks for your help !

    Thanks for your replies ! @LukeSavenije : How will a 970 or a 780ti perform compared to a 1050 ? @GoldenLag : Haven't even thought about AMD, I'm not very familiar with their products. I'll take a look at it !

    Hi, I'm looking for a budget gaming / workstation machine for my little borthers for christmas, I found on ebay a refurbished HP Workstation with an Intel i5-4590S with 8GB of RAM and a 500GB HDD for 80€ (about 90USD). I want to add an SSD and a GPU to this machine, but i'm not sure wich graphics card to chose. I thought about a new Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1050 Windforce OC Edition but i'm not certain if it is well balanced with this CPU or if I will be CPU-bottlenecked ? Should a buy an old gtx 950 or 750 ti ? My objective is 1080p / 60fps with low / high settings in games like Garr'ys Mod, Fortnite, CS:GO and smooth small 1080p editing work in Davinci Resolve. My budget for the graphics card is around 150€ (about 170USD), the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1050 Windforce OC Edition is 140€ (about 157USD) in Amazon France. Thanks for your help ! Fayçal
