  1. I saw this in one of LTT adds and wanted to ask. Is this actually safe? I want to get one for my Laptop, Switch, and iPad. Will it be safe to charge my stuff with this charger? I am a bit skeptical on buying charger adapters that are not official from the device manufacturer; so, if anyone had any experience, can you please share it? Thanks!
  2. I will be running Linux as the host OS with KVM and Windows in guest OS. I am thinking that the only reason I wanted server MB was for ECC but I am realizing that ECC is not necessary for me for a home server. Now, thinking of building a workstation PC. Still researching...
  3. I am trying to set up a server grade machine at home for all the media that I have at home: - Store and stream digital versions of old VHS tapes (750gb) - Store all the photos and videos from cameras and phones (350gb) - Store full hd movies - Run Emby media server in it to serve all the media content - Stream LiveTV from IPTV - (future) Run video surveillance - Connect the server to a TV and use it as Kodi based STB - (if possible, don't believe it but worth asking) use it as firewall using Pfsense - (maybe) run a virtual machine using KVM to for some Windows based operations (e.g ActiveDirectory) - Run Gitlab and store all my programs in it and even run a Docker machine for fun - The entire OS is going to be running Debian or CentOS (I prefer CentOS but need to check if everything works with Kodi, Emby, and LiveTV) - Worst case scenario for number of simultaneous connections would be 4 (average would be 1-2 connections at the same time) Essentially, I want this server to be a central hub for all the data in my home. For my server, I want to have three layers of data integrity and protection: 1. Raid 1 for data integrity 2. External HDD for local backups of all the data 3. Encrypted on machine, Cloud based (e.g Backblaze or S3) based backup for sensitive data (e.g childhood videos etc) None of the NAS solutions provide all the things that I need; so, I have been looking at a custom built hardware. Before I show the items that I have chosen, I want to mention that I don't have experience with dealing with server hardware but it is going to be a good learning experience. Here are the specs that I have found and I want to know if it these items are compatible with each other: - Motherboard: SUPERMICRO MBD-A1SRi-2758F-O Mini ITX Server Motherboard - CPU: Intel® Atom processor C2758, SoC, FCBGA 1283, 20W 8-Core (comes with Motherboard) - RAM: Crucial 16GB DDR3L 1600Mhz ECC unbuffered - RAID: HighPoint RocketRAID 644L PCI-Express 2.0 x4 SATA III (6.0Gb/s) RAID Controller Card - Data: 2x WD RED 4TB running Raid 1 on the Raid controller - SSD: 1x Samsung 250GB SATA3 - PSU: 300W (to be honest, I haven't reall researched the power wattage of the specs I have chosen. Once I know that the specs will be fine, I will choose the PSU). And fit everything in this case (since the Motherboard is Mini ITX) is: SilverStone Milo Series ML07B Do you think this will work out? One of my biggest concerns is that, none of the server motherboards with Atom based processors have HDMI ports and Supermicro does not come with built in RAID support according to Newegg specs; so, I have to buy the controller separately. Otherwise, I would have bought a graphics card and plugged it to PCI-E x8 and even get a chance to to light gaming. Is there a Mini-iTX motherboard that is not very expensive (~$300), running Atom based server processor, and supports HDMI output?
