  1. I was thinking about that, even though they're absolutely horrible in terms of performance, I could have six 32 core servers that I could use to run numerous simplistic servers, as long as IPC isn't much of a requirement. But for the most part the cheapest dual cpu motherboard is around 130 and quad is about 250-300, plus the power draw would be horrible. It'd be cheaper to buy two used 7601's and have those on a single server as it'd probably outperform six quad opteron servers in nearly every category, and also has far more memory capability, as these are limited to like 32 gigs per cpu oof
  2. Yeah but 24 zen processors would cost, at a bare minimum if you count the recently unveiled Athlon 200GE, $1,320, and if we want some thicc CPUs like this one, we could work with the 1900x which I've found a few for around $300, so let's be generous and put all 24 at $299, we'd be talking around $7,176 for 192 cores, which is exactly how many these Opterons have, albeit I'm pretty sure two 1900x would outperform 24 Opteron 6128s. Now, I've also seen a few EPYC 7601's running around for $999, which means I could walk around with 768 cores for a mere $23,976 But what if we want to have 768 cores while still being able to sort of game and also completely obliterate Cinebench? Well whipping out $41,999.76($45,464.74 with tax) would net us 24 Threadripper 2990wx's. By the way I spent $54.00 for these, free shipping. For not even the price of a single dual core, locked, Athlon 200GE I got a bunch of nearly useless processes I can rub my face against all day. Also as soon as I buy some old tape reel hard drives I'll get those puppies posted here to further contribute to this thread as I've become far too sidetracked.
  3. I'm going to become the Opteron Ranger and save people from aliens
  4. I bought a lot of 24 of these 6128's on Ebay. They're socket G34
  5. I just liked this picture of these old Opterons so I thought I'd throw them here in hopes to allow them to achieve some form of glory in their aging ways.
  6. Hi. I made an account specifically to both ask and share. I recently bought 24 Opteron 6128 CPUs because I had nothing better to do, and noticed that only on two that the IHS is smoothed over in the corners. Anyone know why this would be, whether it be from manufacturing or someone(seemingly unlikely as it seems pretty precise) doing it themselves? Otherwise, enjoy staring at a bunch of Opterons.
