  1. Hey, I’m not sure whether to choose the case with tinted glass or regular tempered glass. Essentially my build won’t have any RGB at the moment except from the tiny, minute strip on the motherboard. But I just keep thinking that I should get the clear variant just in case I feel like adding rgb strips later on down the line... (Idk whether Id actually follow through on that but I’m thinking it’s a possibility haha) Are there any other cons to either that I should be wary of? Like eg one has more finger print smudges that the other? (Sorry if that’s a bad example, this is my first build so I’m not 100% on this ) Here’s the case: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/Y6Crxr/fractal-design-meshify-c-atx-mid-tower-case-fd-ca-mesh-c-bko-tg (Btw I would be getting it in black)
  2. Hi all, I'm wondering whether anyone could recommend a laptop for me. Currently I am on a film technology and VFX course and I also edit on premiere pro. I currently have a Macbook pro 2017- 13 in (i5, 8gb) which is struggling to keep up with anything media related. (As I said, choosing a macbook was my downfall haha). Currently I am planning to sell my laptop and then top up the extra money needed to buy a new laptop. Currently I have my eye on the Dell XPS as it seems to have the specs that I want and I have seen some good reviews about it. However whilst watching reviews, there were some issues stated with the fact that it very easily throttles and doesn't live up to its specification for speed. I was also told previously that the XPS is an 'over glorified Facebook machine', which is fair enough. I stupidly only realised that the only ports that the XPS has is usb c/thunderbolt ports, which would mean that I will have to live through dongle hell again Does anyone have recommendations for any laptops with suitable specs? I feel like I need at least 16 gb of memory and a good/ capable graphics card (doesn't have to be the newest). I have been looking at some gaming pcs, but I feel like they are too flashy/heavy haha. My budget is around £1400-£1700. Thanks!
  3. The issue is I have researched a little into eGPUs, and from what I've found, they don't seem to help much. They seem to only shave a fraction of the time needed to export a premiere pro video for instance, and that's just straight exporting and not queuing. I mean it took 15-30 mins for Adobe encoder to load on my mac.. whether that's because I've never used it on my mac or whether it had just updated I do not know
  4. The problem is I was planning to use it more as a practice place where I could work on my video effects / 3D works whilst at home / in university accommodation so to speak If I had to do more paper workish type things to do I can get by, by using my ipad pro and a bluetooth keyboard if I have to do anything whilst im not in my dorm.
  5. Hi all, I will be starting a Virtual effects (and film technology) course in university soon. I'm planning to sell my current laptop (Macbook pro 2017, 8gb i5) since it definitely can't cope with editing on premiere pro and would obviously not live through working on 3d intensive programs. (Genuinely don't know why I decided to choose a macbook of all things... that was my downfall). I'm debating whether I should buy a pc or laptop for my studies which would be used in my university accommodation/ campus if I bought a laptop. The reason why I am thinking of a laptop is that it is more portable, meaning that it can be taken around campus with me- however this is not a must as I can easily use a campus pc that is equipped for my course. Does anyone have any suggestion of pc specs that would suit visual effects/video editing? Currently I have been looking at the Dell XPS as a portable option. However I have read reports of it failing to perform as advertised due to overheating and throttling so I'm a bit hesitant. I would say my price range would be around £900-£1200ish but depends on what I can sell my laptop for haha. Thanks!
  6. Basically, I think what I have heard is that YouTube has now tried to 'test drive' this new feature on a number of users (but by the looks of things they haven't really disclosed to the users who are 'testing' the feature) where they show videos that their algorithm thinks that you'd like to watch- based on your previous viewing habits. As you can guess, this has pissed a lot of users off, with most stating that the 'recommended' videos should be shown on the homepage and NOT on the subs page... I sometimes wonder whether YouTube really think twice about something before implementing any sort of feature, even if it is a test run...
  7. That moment when you buy an ipad pro to use it as a secondary monitor....

True tbf, but because a family member insisted on paying for it, he gave me two options: buying meh asus 1080p portable monitor or an ipad pro - so I chose the latter so I could use it as a standalone device :)

Yeah ok, I probably would've done the same if I would've been in this situation.

Congrats on your new iPad then :D

Thanks! Especially so when he last minute said that I could buy an ipad pro instead- But that might be due to the fact that I got the collage deal + beats earphones for free although I already have airpods... Oh well... guess I can get some money back after attempting to sell my earphones LMAO
