  1. Hey, sorry for reviving a sort of dead thread but, I was curious about the performance of that Fryzen cooler on your 1700 and 3700x. How does it do? Does it stay pretty quiet under load?
  2. Ah well guess that answers that question :( thank you.
  3. Hello! I've posted here before asking about a cooler I should buy and originally I had settled with the Scythe Mugen 5 Rev. B. Although after a little more research I found the Scythe Fuma 2 to be a little more appealing due to it's performance headroom if I were to ever upgrade to a higher TDP CPU and lower noise. However, I was curious what the real difference between these two coolers are since they're only about $10 apart. Also if I went with the Scythe Fuma 2 would it be possible to take off the top heat sink fin? As I'm trying to get more silver accenting in my build and most heat sinks now that are within a higher tier on the tier list have black fins on the top. If that isn't really a good idea than could anyone possible make any recommendations for a heat sink in the $60 range that has similar performance in cooling and noise with preferably an aluminum top plate that's less that 166mm? I live in the US and my shopping is done online if that helps at all and RAM clearance isn't a concern since the RAM I'll buy will be dictated by cooler clearance anyways. The CPU I'm starting with is an R5 1600 but, I definitely want a cooler that'll be able to tame higher end CPUs when it comes time to upgrade. Thanks in advance!
  4. Hmmm I see, depending on the how the fan placement inside my case is then I'll likely do a push-pull configuration. My concern is since I'll have a rear and top exhaust right by the CPU cooler anyways if it would even fit. Thank you for the notice, this is only my second post on these forums. I was planning on getting that originally when I had decided to make white my main theme color but, I just felt like it would end up clashing with my motherboard especially the white LED fans that come with the cooler. And if the Mugen 5 Rev. B performs just as well as the Neptwin I would rather just go with the Scythe cooler. I see, unfortunately they seem to be out of stock on that cooler where I would be shopping for it. Thank you for the recommendation though, I will keep a look out.
  5. I see well so far it seems like the Mugen 5 is the one that has more leaning in favor. With them being in the same price I would be willing to give up some prettiness for performance. What are you referring to with the TUF edition with RGB?
  6. I was looking at both of them and the only real reason I haven't really picked either or is because they don't really match my build aesthetic as much. The Neptwin is better than the Fuma 2 but, the heat pipe caps look so ugly ;-;. I can't really afford a custom loop and Ryzen isn't as crazy when it comes to pushing overclocks so I would rather keep with the reliability of air cooling because I should easily be able to attain a stable max OC on air.
  7. I'm located in the US and my budget is around $60 for a cooler and I've been shopping online but, I could definitely go to a place like microcenter or Frys if I needed to. I don't currently have any of the fans or RAM since I'm probably going to pick them up around black Friday time. The RAM I plan on using is 3200mhz DDR4 Team T-Force Vulcan Z 2x8GB. The reason why I was gonna go with the RF120s is because I'm planning on picking up a 5-pack of them and my case can only use a max of 4 case fans so I would end up having one extra so I thought I might as well slap it on there to keep a consistent look with my build. When it comes to overclocking I pick stability over anything else so, I'm not like a crazy bencher overclocker or anything like that.
  8. So I'm going to be building my next system soon and I was debating on what cooler I should get. I was originally going to get a Noctua NH-D15s but, then figured that it's probably pretty unreasonable and overkill. Since my system will have a silver theme as its primary color I was looking for a nice silver cooler that's still a good performer with nice aesthetics and noise. I was looking at the Shadow Rock 2 since it has a clean brushed aluminum top and Be Quiet is a reputable brand but, when I looked at the cooler tier list it's only rated as a "better 212 EVO" and it seemed like it was struggling to keep up with overclocked CPUs. So then I saw the Scythe Mugen 5 Rev. B as an alternative at a similar price point, this one is also rated higher on the CPU cooler tier list. So which would be a better performer for my price, if the Shadow Rock 2 performs as well or better than the Mugen 5 I would rather get that since it's the prettier cooler imo. I would gladly take any other suggestions too preferably around or under $60. I'm starting out with a Ryzen 5 1600 but, would very likely upgrade to a Ryzen 7 3700x class or higher CPU in the future and would like to be able to overclock the chips as hard as I can within a stable limit while keeping temps under 80c and noise to a reasonable level. I also intended to swap out the stock fan of either cooler with a Deepcool RF120 fan if that makes a difference. The max cooler height cannot exceed 166mm as my case is the Cooler Master NR400. Thanks in advance for any advice!
  9. Thank you all for your helpful comments and I decided that after overclocking this system I'm just going to hold on to this system and ride it's performance out until it dies or becomes too slow for my use. In terms of budget, I was trying to get as low of an upgrade as possible since I don't have a whole lot of money (around $200) hence why I was thinking of getting the 4790k and then probably buying a new GPU later down the road and praying it wouldn't bottleneck really hard haha. But sincerely thank you all!
  10. Hey everyone, I'm new here so if this is in the wrong thread or something feel free to move or delete it. But here's what I've got, I have an ASUS Strix OC GTX 970 and a Core i5 overclocked to around 4.5GHz and I was wondering if I should upgrade the GPU or should I see about getting a core i7 4790k or wait and upgrade my platform to eliminate and CPU-intensive game bottlenecks. I have yet to overclock my GTX 970 as it has some annoying coil whine but I wouldn't really rule the option out as I still think it's a very powerful card but I have been noticing in games like BF1 and Destiny 2 I have been dropping frames a little bit. I would like to hold onto what I can for as long as possible as I'm a student so my upgrades have to be very well thought out and last a long time XD. Though I usually use my computer for general computing and gaming I may start using it as a workstation for school projects like coding and 3D modeling. Any thoughts would be appreciated thank you! -Specs- Core i5 4690k @ 4.5GHz Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO ASUS Strix OC GTX 970 8GB Corsair Vengence 1600MHz 128GB Kingston SSD 2x1TB WD Blue drive: spanned Corsair RM650X
