1. Budget & Location
$1670US, was $2000, but the first monitor, a Dell S2417DG has already been purchased on sale via Newegg. A decision is made to go to an NVIDIA GPU.
2. Aim
Gaming / General Workstation. This will be going forward from RPG's to some FPS, with hopeful room for more. Not really much for online gaming but there are always some other games I'm willing to try and want to make sure I have a good path forward.
3. Monitors
2 Monitors, non matching (possibly one, this has not been finalized). 1440p for the gaming monitor and an old Dell 1050p for work (this one is 50/50 to be retired).
4. Peripherals
Keyboards, headset. I have a trackball and will be keeping that. Speakers are possible, but I have a fair set of 2.1 speakers (Altec Lansing
5. Why are you upgrading?
It's honestly been 7 years since I last built a machine. Many of the games on my system are old, and even some fairly old ones now like Fallout 4, Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor, require some downscaling to 720p to play on this old AMD Phenom 2 system. This system is still on DDR3 and the case only has USB 2.0 front panel. May end up cleaning the keyboard but it's an old dell keyboard from 7 years ago. My current workhorse of a GPU is a Radeon 6850. Not interested in 4K yet.
6. Decision time? (nonstandard question)
Within about 1 week - I'd like it before I move to my new place later in the month.
