  1. Trying to help a friend with this system. I have undervolted the cpu, it is stable, but, I am confused with the GPU. I know that the GPU in the video is a TI, so I have not followed the curve set in the video. Results in Heaven are: Graphics 1911 Mhz Memory 3504 Mhz Hwinfo no load GPU core v .675 v GPU core w .376 w GPU clock 670.5 Mhz GPU mem clock 405.0Mhz GPU vid clock 620.0 Mhz Load with a game playing: GPU core v 1.100 v GPU core w 26.157 w GPU clock 1759.0 Mhz GPU mem clock 1752.0 Mhz GPU vid clock 1582.00 Mhz So not sure if I should set a flat line or what is a good curve/frequency/undervolt to use. Thanks
  2. Thanks. Interesting idea. Perhaps placing a Hepa cleaner next to the computer so that the Hepa blows cleaner air at the PC intake. Hmm.
  3. Planing to get an HP 800 G2 with an I7 CPU and transferring to a better case. There are a few cats here and the litter dust(the fine stuff) from the clay gets everywhere. The furnace blows the dust all through the house. Since this is pretty fine stuff, I expect that I have to get really fine filters which will impact cooling/longevity of fans and the system? I am not comfortable with water cooling And wouldn't the dust coat/clog the rads anyway? Please no get rid of the cats comments. Thanks
  4. Thank you Caroline. I will skip getting a new to me gpu till I can upgrade the psu. I know that this system is old and out of date, but I want/need it to work another year. Thanks again.
  5. Sorry to bring back this thread. No I have not replaced my PSU. Availability is low and prices are going up it looks like? Things being what they are as well. The Thermaltake says 430W, but some reviews say 350w. https://www.hardwaresecrets.com/thermaltake-purepower-430w-np-power-supply-review/9/ The MB can supply 75W. The PSU has a 6pin connector for a gpu. If I get a GPU over 75W, will the cable make up the difference? Or it doesnt work that way? Trying for a 1060 or something better. Thanks for reading
  6. Friend has an old(8+) year old system. Funds are extremely limited. This old system will heavily bottleneck pretty much any gpu I get, but, they are looking for an eventual upgrade path for the GPU(used). Problem is that I think the PSU is not going to cut it. Thermaltake XP550 NP 430w According to a few posts on the internet, it looks to at best rated for 350W. No more thermaltake for me. This is a solid old style case. PSU mounts at top. The top is solid metal. No airflow. What to do what to do? Thanks for your suggestions.
  7. So Pcie 4 & 5 are coming, or starting to be here. One website I read suggested that Pcie 4 would likely be used more for desktops, while another site expects 4 to be short lived. I wonder if it is worth waiting to upgrade until 4/5 is widely adopted? Will it make a huge difference for gaming/VR ? Will someone make a consumer level Pcie MB/GPU I wonder? Any thoughts?
  8. System bios is set to auto to handle the ram as I have no idea. Asus bios 0202 M/B is an Asus P5e vm do(I thought the system had 8gb, but only had 6) I used HWinfo and ran the system with the 4gb of 2 gig ram sticks. pc2-6400 ddr2 kingston hp5189-2180-hye this was original to the system. Current memory clock 400.00 mhz (6:5) ratio Current timing 6-6-6-18 So I added another 4 gigs. 2 x 2 gig of CORSAIR PC2-6400 800MHZ XMS2 CM2X2048-6400C5. Specs look to match i.e voltage etc. Current memory clock 333.00 mhz (1:1) ratio Current timing 5-5-5-15 the Bios has this message: Dram freq is determined by FSB strap and FSB freq. while FSB strap is set as 200, 266 or 333 and fsb freq is over 240, 320 or 400 respectively one more freq item becomes available. 1) why the drop/ what did I miss? 2) should I replace the kingston or the Corsair ram? 3) Leave as is 400 to 333 is a small drop Cant afford to burn this system out. Ideas/Suggestions? Thanks!
  9. I'd very much like to try a good flight sime with VR, see what it brings. A FPS seems like a very good match. As for the system, I would love to present a 2K system, but, I think that I will try to downgrade in a few spots. The case and the GPU for example. TBH, I never expected a request for a VR capable system. Boy was I surprised.
  10. Thank You both. I also found a part picker on the Logicalincrements page after posting this(of course). Can not link to it for some reason. Sims are: IL-1946 Patched and eventually IL-2 BOM/BOS. Not sure about DCS. Though the F-14 that was just released looks amazing! IL-2 1946 can be run in VR with Opentrack and Vorpx. Supposedly. I'm not sure about Vorpx? You can also get VR on Stream with BOM & BOS(I am not sure how as I/we do not use Steam) Well, thanks to everyone, I am learning quite a bit. Thanks everyone.
  11. I wasnt sure if I should add this to my previous post, but, I thought start fresh. Location is Canada. Budget is approx $1500 CDN - $2000. (Don't ask). There will not be ugrading for a good long while after this. The 3D head gear is seperate to the PC cost. Oculus or???? I've been reading and reading, and I think that I have completly confused myself. CPU Something in the 4 to 5 ghz range or??? How Many cores? 6 or 8? I think 4 Cores is falling away? Ram higher freq is better ? A reliable M/B ? For the 3D headsets no idea. VRM ? # of phases...whaaat? I my brother will not get into over clocking. He would call me for that. And I would be very cautious with O/C I am sorry, but really I have no idea now which direction to take. Should I be posting this on a VR forum? I did find this page, but, again what is good? Logicalincrements.com http://www.logicalincrements.com/articles/vrguide Thanks for reading and suggestions
  12. Thanks Manderis Local market isokay, but as I found, a number of the the relatively recent used cards are close in price to a new 1050 for example. I think my slap a GPU into a prebuild is just me wanting this to be done, but, I will discuss the budget with my brother and see just how commited he is to this, as I do not want him to spend $$ on capacity that he may not use in 6 months.
  13. Thanks Manderis. The budget was under 1K if at all possible. Part of me almost wants to get something like this ACER TC-780-ES11 and add a better GPU and power supply. https://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=7_1203_124&item_id=123554
