  1. Why won't the 850 work? What does the eps 850 Athena have that a 850w PSU won't?
  2. That is why I came here... to see if there was something I was missing (IE I month ago I did not know AMD s cared A LOT about the RAM speed)
  3. congrats on 500 posts the Ram is actually all 24 GB sticks ( i did not build that part)... the drives are different models. Video card, CPU and MOBO I believe are correct
  4. Yes it ran on the corsiar for a while. Thank you for asking questions to understand me
  5. So either corsair died in a a day, OR one of the rails on the corsair is not high enough ** I bought two corsiars other ins n my new ryzen 5 build... I am not excited to test with it... slight ly more ok waiting a week to replace the corsair... IF we are 112% confident the corsair is big enough
  6. 3 years ago go the PC, 500 W antec worked for a while Tried 3 other 500 W Antecs- none worked Installed Athena - still works but a fan is going out Installed Corsair sunday afternoon Ran left running Monday night dead Tuesday when i got home Yes athena (esp psu) works today but ATX corsair does not a Kilawat watt meter reports draw with athena is under 400 W does turn on with eps (athena)
  7. It powered on yesterday after install, Ran for 3-6 hours , whent to bed, it was working in the morning, got home form work. it was off, and wont power on. It did a similar thing 3 years ago with 500 W antec power supply's, non of the 500 what antecs worked after that, but this 850 athena did so the corsair may had died...
  8. not change after checking the cable. Note: thys system did not work with 500 W antec power supplies either.
  9. Not likely (but i am checking) new corsair with the 4 pin firmly connected to the 20 pin. Ran for ~ 1day (12=18 hours)
  10. I had a Athena Power 850 W EPS Power Supply the fan was going out so I replaced it with Corsair CX (2017) 650 W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply And it won't power on. I swapped the Athena back in (except drives) and it powers on. What replacement power supply do i need? I did not like how loud the Athena is, the Corsar was 1 short on SATA power * The RAM and Drive config is a pit different but did not look like it would be the cause "wont power on system" https://pcpartpicker.com/list/rGt4dm Does power on PCPartPicker Part List Type Item Price CPU Intel Core i7-990X Extreme Edition 3.467 GHz 6-Core Processor Motherboard Asus Rampage III Formula ATX LGA1366 Motherboard Memory Patriot Viper II Sector 7 Edition 24 GB (6 x 4 GB) DDR3-1333 Memory Storage Samsung 860 Evo 500 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive $69.98 @ Amazon Storage Western Digital Caviar Blue 1 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive $44.75 @ Amazon Storage Western Digital Caviar Blue 1 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive $44.75 @ Amazon Storage Western Digital Caviar Blue 1 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive $44.75 @ Amazon Video Card EVGA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2 GB FTW ACX Video Card Power Supply Athena Power 850 W EPS Power Supply $109.98 @ Amazon Optical Drive Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer $19.85 @ Amazon Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts Total $334.06 Generated by PCPartPicker 2019-11-20 01:01 EST-0500
  11. What are your thoughts on DDR4 3000 vs. PC 3200 RAM? Would there be a noticeable performance difference? Or just better benchmarks? Factorio, Davinci resolve missed Minecraft

  13. How can i verify this board will not need a BIOS update: Some AMD B450 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Matisse CPUs. Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS revisions.
  14. Thank you for building that out. My current OS Drive is 500 gigs and feels small so I'm inclined to go with a 1 terabyte nvme. I Have more confidence in Samsung ssds but maybe unwarranted and I should just go with the HP I was avoiding the meshify because of the tempered glass side panel #3 kids under 6 years old
  15. Your reply is amazing! my current computer system I7-990X with 24 gigs of RAM and works well. and I feel like I have to get a better performing system if I'm going to be spending money. Ie. the NVME drive and staying with 24 gigs of RAM This is the fifth or sixth build I've done for this project. And the first couple were AMD builds because of the performance per dollar advantage. I had a co-worker tell me that there's driver hiccup some game inconsistencies with AMD. I don't want to be rushing around trying to troubleshoot weird issues.
  16. What change would you make for each: 1. Increase performance 2. Reduce cost 3. Prevent bottlenecks 1. Budget & Location $US - USA $800 - $1,200 2. Aim Casual gaming little video editing little bit of TV recording Picture storage (may do 2 drive mirrored) I don't like tempered glass/ clear cases. I LOVE MY ANTEC ONE-but it is not for sale Prefer extra drive bays Preference to Intel because some games (Factorio) have weird issues with AMD. Current system has 24 GB ram- don't really want to decrease. 3. Monitors Start with 2 and add 3 soon 4. Peripherals I have a keyboard want to add a mouse 5. Why are you upgrading? Current computer (i7 990X) is great except for drive space. I will cycle mine to my son, his is really slow. 19. Powerful best value ($per performance measure) 1. Budget & Location $US - USA ~ $200 on CPU Not more then needed. Following the 'Pick a CPU' Get MOBO and RAm that cost 50% as much as CPU Get graphic card that is 50% to the same cost as the CPU Fill in Case, power supply drives. means $700 - $1,000 Pass-mark $ per score- https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_value_available.html the first 'reasonable' priced is the AMD Ryzen 5 2600 At CPU mark of 13,523 it is a big step up from my current Intel Core i7-990X @ 3.47GHz at 9,058 2. 20. Stepping back and being a bit more pragmatic. What temperature should I see? How do I find that out? And is the cooler big enough? It is a cooler master Like the hyper T4 or hyper 212 but with the fan inset.
  21. I have an antec sonota 3 case. With one 120 mm fan 79 cfm. CPU i7 990x 3.4 GHz runs warm at 85C Opening the side panel drop it be 6-11 C. I am thinking of getting a 150 cfm fan to replace the back fan. I am on the fence about the front fan because it is on the mobo ( vs front panel) side of the drives get. With the CPU running 75c to 100 C I think maybe I get
