  1. Great thanks for your help; so generally speaking it's safe to buy used from retailers like Newegg, not having to worry that this was fucked through mining or whatever?
  2. That's actually what I don't know. I've only ever bought high-end products for my builds so I don't actually know what specs would be optimal in terms price-performance for my needs. I already have a desktop that I use as a workstation and gaming rig so really all I wanna do with this laptop is college stuff I can't always do at home: internet for docs and programming.
  3. dope, thanks for your help! I've never bought refurbished hardware from newegg; you think it's worth the protection plan?
  4. Cool I'll look some thinkpads up. What do you think of this laptop: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834267223&cm_re=HP_Laptop_ProBook_430_G1-_-34-267-223-_-Product
  5. well I guess there's no hard cap, but the less expensive the better. Anything under $400 would be ideal.
  6. I'm transferring to university this fall and I'm gonna be taking a ton of CS courses. I want to get as inexpensive as a laptop as possible as I literally just want to use the internet, write school code, and maybe crank out the occasional word document. But I absolutely don't want to spend a penny more on something I don't need, cause I want to save money on buying the new GPUs when they come out. I'm guessing a used laptop would be the way to go? I just don't want to go too cheap so that I'm always frustrated but I don't want to overspend on a laptop either. Any suggestions? edit: thoughts on this laptop?
  7. Just to know the performance difference; I hate to say it but I always like to have the best gear even if I don't necessarily need it So you suggest I should consider AMD cards too?
  8. about 5 years I built a PC and it's still able to do everything I want today without any problems. Is the 3930k overclocked at what I have gonna have any problems running the next gen NVIDIA cards at 1080p. 1440p, or 5760x1080p? But even beyond gaming, is it still a good workstation processor today? Cause if I upgrade I'm gonna have to buy a new mobo/ram along with the processor. If it matters I'm getting 1275 on novabench.
