Should I just get the unactivated windows 10 and download it onto the usb and then just upgrade later? I tried to do that on a windows computer with a 16GB usb and it didn't work. I'm just getting really frustrated that everyone does this shit on youtube and makes it look like the easiest thing that no one would ever have to worry about, but then when I try to download it on mac, it doesn't work. When I want to buy a software, they expect me to buy it and I have to hope that it works cause I can't return it. And no one shows how to do this on youtube that I'm aware of step by step. Its 2018 for frickin sakes!!! Sorry just want to see my first pc build work, and every other thing seems to go wrong despite finally getting it all put together.

So is microsoft support that big of a deal? Like are they just going to tell me something I already know, and can't I just ask on microsoft forums or email them?

Hi so I bought a windows 10 home dvd from B&H and they told me that I should be able to boot/install windows on my new computer build via external dvd player (attaches via usb connection), can anyone verify this? Also, people were replying on a question someone asked about the dvd version, saying that the downside to getting the dvd is that there is limited/minimal customer support for the dvd version from microsoft. Should this concern me, and what do they mean by this?

Uhhh.....so I tried on my mac to download the free unactivated windows, but I can't download a creation tool from mac, so I went on my girlfriend's windows laptop and tried to download it on to usb.......knowing my luck it didn't work and it said there was an error before the verifying stage. I called B&H and the guy said their download version (the home version) might not be bootable for a first time os install on a new computer (he didn't sound very sure). Then he changed his stance saying it should work...... he's 99% sure it would work, but I'm not going to waste $100 and find out it doesn't work and not be able to return it. How is it that we are in 2018 and its so hard to download a simple OS. This should not be this hard!

Wow......I'm an idiot. Haha, I will try it when I get home, thank you sir! I'll reply back when I have updated info. Also, it seems that the reason I never got a creation tool is because I tried downloading it off a macbook pro.

I just put the iso file in the usb

So I am building a pc for the first time, and despite a large number of headaches, I've been able to get the case closed and the bios up. Unfortunately, while being able to recognize my usb (its a gorilla usb in exfat format) it doesn't seem to recognize the windows 10 iso file I downloaded from microsoft (free home version). Any ideas what's wrong? I tried changing different settings, but not sure what I'm doing wrong. I save and exit, and then hold f8 down, but nothing happens other than a black screen for a couple seconds, then goes back to bios. I have it plugged into my case usb, not a motherboard usb slot, is that a problem?
