  1. I guess I can slap in the new cpu and see what the temps are then go from there. Yeah I don't know if it would help either. It was just an idea I had. Plus if I want to put a dedicated graphics card in it I would need a power supply with an extra 4 pin anyway. I read on the Dell forums that the ttc 550 ti would be sufficient for media streaming and be comparable. Your thoughts?
  2. I appreciate the response mate. I agree the the power consumption is an issue. I should have clarified that this is not really a permanent solution to a particular need or problem. Personally I just like to take old things and revitalize them and give them new purpose. This is more like a tinker project, not so much a way to take shortcuts around buying a real system. I agree with the x3230 but with a 95 watt tdp, do you think that id need to upgrade the stock cooling solution? And do you think I could get around the power draw of an older system by upgrading to a more efficient psu? Cheers.
  3. Hello all, I'm new to the site but I've watched practically all LTT's content. Anyway, I recently picked up a decommissioned Dell Poweredge sever for free. I'd like to make it into a home theater box. I figure id need an upgraded cpu, a dedicated graphics card, and an upgraded psu. I'm just looking suggestions for compatibility and maybe ideas for how to go about the setup. Cheers.
