  1. It's most definitely rust. The problem with vinegar is that for it to have effect you need to submerge the part in it for many hours. Just rubbing some on it wouldn't be nearly enough to remove all this, and I don't think it's the best idea to leave a gpu overnight in vinegar lol
  2. I can definitely spot some corrosion on the solder joins, I'll be going over those with some alcohol and a toothbrush soon.
  3. Found a man selling a mining rig "on behalf of someone" for 150usd because he was moving. Out of the lot there's two working 1070tis and one 1080ti so I've already got more than twice my moneys worth! I'm actually super excited about cleaning them out and making them look as presentable as possible but I'm genuinely stumped on how to deal with the rust.
  4. I tried vinegar on one of the cards that's completely broken and it had almost zero effect. Since I can't really get the rust off I'm gonna be buying some contact cleaner spray to see if cleaning the pads is enough to revive the port.
  5. A deep clean is definitely in order for all these cards before I flip them. But just peeking around the PCB and through the gaps, other than rusty screws here and there there isn't a trace of rust on the PCB.
  6. I've seen a lot of rusted out GPUs in Singapore, but this is by far the worst I've ever seen. WD40 seems like a pretty solid idea. I'll try spraying it on some toothbrush and rubbing it into the ports, thanks for the idea.
  7. I've salvaged a couple of mining GPUs that, due to the massive amount of dust covering them, combined the with insanely humid Singapore weather, have totally rusted out ports. They all seem to be working fine, but most of them only output through DVI, and not HDMI. Is there anyway that I can clean the rust out of the contacts and port housings without damaging the GPU components?
  8. Didn't work, the gpu just doesn't output anything when I disable it :c
  9. Oohhhhh I see... I'll try it when I get home! Thanks for the tip
  10. I guess I'll just try an active adapter then. Thanks for the link!
  11. What you actually mentioned is the problem I'm having. I don't want the second gpu to take over! If I connect my monitor to the gtx 770 I'll be getting 144hz but it's the 770 that's running the game! I want to be connected to the 770 while my 2080 is doing all the work which I'm starting to think that it's not possible to do xP
  12. Isn't the cpu already bottlenecking your gpu? You could check your usage percentages with Msi Afterburner and Rivatuner. I doubt a 1660 would result in an fps boost.
  13. So I've recently upgraded my GPU and I don't have a DVI port on it anymore. Since I can only run 144hz on my monitor through DVI, I was wondering If I could keep my old GPU in a second PCI slot just as a video output while the primary GPU does all the work. I've tried to make it work but the pc just uses the GPU I plug the display into as the primary graphics card and puts all the load on it. A quick google search reveals that there should be a "Select preferred graphics processor" option in my Nvidia control panel but that seems to be missing. I've tried reinstalling drivers but that didn't help either Many people from other forums have recommended a Dvi to Dp/Hdmi adaptor. An active adaptor that supports 144hz will cost me over a hundred dollars and It would just be smarter for me to just buy a new monitor xP 1st GPU is an Rtx 2080 and the second GPU is a Gtx 770 if that helps. Thanks! Attached a picture of the rig just cuz I think 2 Gpus in one pc always look super awesome!
  14. then I guess I'll save for a better display. thank you for being so helpful!
