  1. Ahhh good shout I’ll give that ago tomorrow, thanks
  2. Yeah I tried this as well as the power switching on the motherboard and neither worked.
  3. My pc that’s been running fine for just over a year just wouldn’t turn on after a weekend away yesterday. There was no sign of life at all apart from the LEDS on the motherboard. I’ve tested the power supply with my multimeter and plugged it into my brother pc and it all worked fine. I took out the ram and storage and breadboarded the motherboard with just the processor. I still got no signs off life apart from the LEDs on the motherboard. From this I’ve presumed it probably isn’t the processor as I can’t even get fans to spin. I’ve spoke to amazon and got a full refund on my motherboard and have a replacement arriving tomorrow. The motherboard I’ve ordered is pretty much the same as I previously had the Asus prime Z370-A and I’ve ordered the Asus prime Z370-A ii. I’m just wondering if anyone would say what I have done is the right thing or not and is there anything I need to do when swapping the motherboard or will the pc just work it out itself?
  4. Thanks so much for the help, I would prefer 15 inch yes. My budget is anything up to £1000. I am not looking for anything with a great gpu really as I’m not looking to game on it as I already have a PC for that. I will just use the laptop for general work really. I have an 8600k in my pc and can get that to like over 70% usage just through opening loads of tabs on chrome and that. So I’m looking for something with a high end i7 processor or equivalent really. For things like battery life, future upgrade ability, storage, form factor and so on I’m not hugely bothered I’m just looking for something that is good quality and value for money. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks
  5. Fair enough, what do you think to huawei as a brand though? Factoring in things like customer service and so on compared to dell
  6. Do you have any recommendations? I’ve found it very difficult to find good laptops as I think the specs on a lot of sites are misleading and prices vary so greatly for what seems to be nothing. I liked the fact the Inspiron 15 has a pcie boot drive which was a big reason why I like it.
  7. https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-Ryzen-5-2500U-vs-Intel-Core-i7-8565U/m378273vsm591977 Im just going off cpu performance on user benchmarks.
  8. I think they’re probably too low end spec for me thanks for the help though. Also I’ve kinda avoided looking at huawei after all the spying speculation. I know privacy isn’t a thing with tech in 2019 really but I still am not a big fan of the brand now.
  9. Hi I’ve been researching laptops the last couple days and have finally come up with the final result. I’m planning on getting the dell Inspiron 15 7000. From what I’ve seen it seems to be the best value for money for a good quality decent everyday laptop. It has pcie m.2 which I kinda want. Just thought I’d post on here before I brought it to see if anyone had any suggestions as to why this may be a bad choice? https://www.dell.com/en-uk/shop/laptops-notebooks-and-2-in-1-laptops/inspiron-15-7000/spd/inspiron-15-7580-laptop/cn75811
  10. Not really an issue to be honest as most of the time I’d be using it plugged in. I would preferably like a lighter laptop but as I said before it’s just the best value I’m looking for. There are so many laptops out there it’s hard to weigh up what’s best. Is there any good website for comparing laptop specs?
  11. I built a PC with a 1060 6gb and an i5 8600k about 6 months ago. I’ve had no problem with it but am looking for a laptop now. I’ve used iPads for years but I can’t live without a laptop any longer. I have a budget of up to £1000 and am looking for a laptop with probably a mid range i7. I’m not too bothered for graphics but would preferably like some low level discrete graphics like a 1050 ti or something but it’s not esntial. I’m just looking for the best value for money really. Form factor isn’t much of an issue to me just performance. I don’t mind used laptops either. any suggestions would be great thanks?
  12. thanks for the help everyone. I was only going Intel for the i5 8500 and then I realised it was gonna be too expensive so I just swapped in the i3. I think I will try the Ryzen processor. I haven't built with AMD before is there any difference when booting the pc and downloading drivers?
  13. I have found all the parts on amazon for less than £700. I particularly think the ram is a steal for £89 two 8gb sticks. I ended up choosing the i3-8100 rather than the i5-8500 as i didn't feel the extra £100 would effect he performance increase enough from looking on user benchmarks. Any opinions would be much appreciated. https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/kyle012345/saved/ZMyRJx
  14. Im gonna go for a gold modular psu if im upgrading so i wont have to upgrade it for a long while. Im between the corsair RM550x and the EVGA SuperNOVA 550 G2. They are both a similar price. The corsair psu is £10 cheaper so ill probably just go with that.
