  1. So as far as temperature the card isnt going above 53C even with the overclock. and as far as the boost clock its going up to 1982Mhz or somewhere around there. I know that is still a really good clock speed and what not for the 1080ti's just for OCD sake i wanted to have it steady over 2000. Also because i know that these GPU's are very capable of going that far. I'm starting to think i just got a poorly binned chip. I'm probably never gonna buy a gigabyte card ever again. Does anyone think that getting a better motherboard would help get more out of the card?
  2. Ok, so i went and bought a gigabyte 1080 ti aorus xtreme graphics card. Now obviously as you can see in the title im wanting to overclock it to squeeze as much performance as i can out of this thing. However, anything over 50mhz over stock clock it insta crashes on benchmark testing and games. I'm talking even 51mhz crashes. To me this seems a little low as i have seen other 1080ti's get at least 100mhz over stock to be stable just fine. Is there something im not doing right or something i have to do differently. I am using MSI afterburner to overclock the card. I have the power limit maxed at 150% as well. Would it be worth to try and take the cooler off and redo the thermal paste with a quality paste? im just trying to get this thing to boost over 2ghz consistently. thats all i want lol. If the info helps the rest of my rig is as follows Asus z170-AR Intel 6700K 8GB of ddr4-2400 RAM Corsair RM-850x power supply.
  3. Aorus AD27QD Pixio PX276h Both of these fit your description i believe. this was just the result of a quick newegg search though. there is probably more option on amazon or something. The first monitor is gonna be the best best if you can afford it. The second one fits the need, but is a lesser known brand and may result in inferior quality. I didn't check out the peak brightness for either of the monitors but as i'm sure you've seen in linus's videos the brighter the monitor the better for the best HDR experience if that is what your'e after. I wouldn't personally go with a TN panel because the color accuracy and picture quality is just so inferior to IPS from what iv'e seen. I personally just learned this the hard way lol. With getting a monitor this pricey though just make sure you have the graphics card to take full advantage of the capabilities of the monitor. for 2k i personally have seen that basically a gtx 1080 or above is necessary. a regular 1080 will get you 60fps but if you want higher frames you're going to need a TI version of that from what iv'e seen.
  4. Monitors with a USB C input are still rare as the technology matures. I personally couldnt find any that match your wants but give it some time and you may find what you need. Sorry i couldnt be more help
  5. Getting a high refresh rate monitor would not be the worst thing right now if you can afford it. Definitely go for a 1ms response time. they are common enough now a days. and if you shoot for a 144hz monitor you can keep the refresh rate at 60hz until you get a better graphics card down the road. this way when you upgrade you will immediately be able to use the benefits of having a better card. As far as the graphics card goes i personally wouldnt waste the money on a 1050. i would go for the new 1650's if the 1050 price range is your budget. they aren't any more costly i dont think and the performance to dollar ratio is just amazing with those cards. just dont fall for the pricier AIB gimmicked ones. just a basic 1650 will work. i think they even have a ti version
  6. I would honestly disagree with the above statement. You said you play fast paced gamnes so you really arent going to notice how good the picture looks. why waste graphics power when you can use that power for more FPS. If it were me i would get the best bang for the buck. for fast paced gaming your monitor should check the following boxes. 1ms response time minimum 144hz (240hz preffered but pricey) Gsync or freesync is a must ( depends on what bran gpu you have ) anything else is just gravy on them taters. check those boxes and i promise you that you wont be disappointed. i personally like the look of the ASUS monitors. Never been a fan of Dell/alienware. Also just looked up that ASUS monitor before submitting my reply, dude go for that one for sure. that thing is a beast. you definitely wont be disappointed.
  7. When it comes to video/photo editing you really want to get the monitor that most coverage of the RGB color gammit. most of the monitor reviews on youtube cover this, well most of the good ones anyways, so i would start there. If gaming isnt going to be involved then refresh rate wont be a concern. Also, i would look into some 4k monitors as well if youre going to be doing editing. you really want the best image possible when working with stuff like that. Most graphics cards will support 4k output. Editing is really processor intesive so just make sure that is up to par with what you want to do and you should be set!
  8. ok i figured it would be an issue with taking screenshots. more pics in one sec. My phone overexposes the pictures really bad so its not this bright on my display but definitely noticeable.
  9. So my monitor is a dell S2417DG. im pretty sure it has a TN panel, im really hoping my issues arent a result of this panel. So basically whenever there is a dark scene with any source of color change near it i get some of the worst artifacting I have ever seen. I put the same content on my wife's monitor just to be sure its my issue, and sure enough everything looks fine on hers. I have tried calibrating for hours on end. the only way to get the artifacts to go away is to make the monitor so dark i can barely see anything. I have attached a couple of pictures. All of them are 1440P images set as my background. I have also included one that has a all black part so you can see the issue is only when there is color shifting around the black or grey. I have posted my issue with this before but i have better images now that show the issue more clearly. I'm really hoping someone out there is smart enough to know whether or not i need to do a warranty claim on my monitor. I'm really hoping what im talking about shows up on everyone else's monitor as well.
  10. ok. ill have to look into the red line issue i guess then. as far as calibration, do you have nay tips on going about this? ive never really had to calibrate a monitor before so I dont have the slightest clue on going about this.
  11. So this is happening with my monitor lately. its way worse now that i did a fresh install of windows on my pc. I'm sure this is probably a calibration issue but i have no idea how to properly calibrate my monitor. The model is a Dell S2417DG. the first picture is during dark scenes on netflix. I mainly have the issue with the artifact looking stuff around the face in this scene. im sure this would happen on any video though. and the second happens when the screen is completely black. the entire screen will be filled with those red lines. that one has never happened before even before the reinstall. I would appreciate any help I can from the community here. thank you.
  12. so even 60c with just watching Youtube is ok? I'm not trying to say your're wrong im just asking honestly because I don't know. this is also assuming that HWmonitor is correct with the 60c. I still dont understand why there is 2 different CPU temps listed. i posted a screenshot of what i mean a couple posts back
  13. I have the thermaltake 240 water 3.0. RGB edition of course lol https://www.amazon.com/Thermaltake-Static-Pressure-Cooling-CL-W107-PL12SW/dp/B0196LP4AY
  14. I am running a overclock atm on my cpu. its at 4.5ghz right now. i know that i should be able to obtain this overclock at around 1.325 volts. i only changed the voltage to 1.3 for the sake of comparison to whats going on. And i went and looked at the VCORE voltage and it indeed does match what i have it set to. So with that said, any explanation as to why my temps are hitting 60c at basically idle? i mean youtube should not spike the temps like that i would think. I'm relatively new to the overclocking and voltage thing so maybe im wrong? or is HWmonitor really that inaccurate. If so, what would be recommended to monitor temps. I also did notice that the max CPU temp under the listing that follows the MB is different than what is listed under the 6700K section. if that makes any sense lol. ill post a screenshot and highlight what im talking about.
