the laptop of my brother lost 2 screws on the back, where the monitor hinge is mounted. It was bought not even a year ago, new. Usage is normal for a college student. I searched a little bit and found that maybe the hinge is driving the screws out there. Is this something Lenovo Laptops do?

I might try this, someday but it does indeed seem a pain in the ass. Probably also a reason why it is so difficult to find pictures from the parts underneath . I found tons of information about coil whine on the net, that's so much more helpful then whatever i found when searching for motherboard capacitors. First off i'll try to localize the sound next time to see if it comes from PSU, mobo or IO shield. thanks a lot all of you!

And now the noise disappeared again. Switched some USB ports but everything is as it was before. No noise It is indeed very annoying but as long as it doesn't harm any hardware i am fine with it. The noise doesn't last very long. I didn't get a chance to listen on the ports but i'll try to localize it next time.

I don't know a lot about electronic parts so i might be very wrong. The board is an Asrock Z370 Extreme4 if that helps, the keyboard is an Ergodox planck EZ . Unfortunately i have nothing at home to make measure it myself. In another forum, someone posted his power draw is 1.5W at 50% backlight. That's little for USB. Yes, the current increases as more LEDs are lit up, it is this little bit of extra power draw that makes the wheezing start. The sound i hear is high pitched, and loud, close to the upper limit of audible noise for my no longer brand new ears. It is not coming from a speaker. I have difficulties to localize the source. Maybe it's the power supply. I also cannot easily prepare a setup to show the problem. Right now there is this sound but it might disappear later. I'm afraid that taking the PC apart i may not be able to find any noise, as i went through this a month ago and nothing. It was there for a day, then disappeared forever, until today. So you are saying this sound may not mean something harmful to the hardware?

my first thought is to buy a digital ampmeter that can be connected between USB devices host and device, to measure the power draw. I don't see any popped capacitors. Some have a housing and these are looking fine, too.

today i finally found the source of a wheezing sound from my PC, which i assume is a capacitor on the motherboard. I have a keyboard with LED backlight connected to a USB 3.1 port of my motherboard. The wheezing sound appears when pressing multiple keys on the board simultaneously. The sound disappears on release, it can be replicated. There are no hardware defects known to me but the audible indicator that something's going terribly wrong. The cause for this damage must not necessarily be the keyboard - other devices have been connected by USB before and it could well be that the damage makes its appearance now simply due to the increased power draw from it. How do i analyse this further, testing for hardware damage on the keyboard and the motherboard?

hello, I have a Fractal Design Meshify C PC case with a drive cage for 2x 3.5" HDD. Looking at the manufacturer's site there doesn't seem to be any HDD accessories for this particular model. I need at least two more HDD mounts and will probably have to use a Universal Multibracket solution. Ideally I would like to buy a second cage and stack it on top of the other: As shown in this picture the top plate can be removed to make space for a 2nd cage. I could probably turn the top cage by 180° so the top drives are still accessible. Unfortunately this cage is not sold separately. I am not sure but I think the case doesn't have additional HDD mounting holes. The case has 3x 2.5mm HDD mounts but I want to use 3.5mm drives. Another solution I found is to mount one drive on a 3.5mm Fan mount but I am not a big Fan of this idea. Are there any options for the current PC case?

plus, it's a custom storage not a custom drive. why is portability a convenience? Most convenient solution would be to connect it to the internet with your own cloud storage. Can be accest remotely by phone, tablet, labtop, or in the office.

There's a ton of software available that you can use if you don't want to write a script by yourself. I am using duplicity.

I'm a total beginner, any marketing catchphrases to search for so I can find some examples? Any particular manufacturer to look out for so I can find appropriate keyboards more easily? In regards to convenience features, can I, generally speaking, program it with anything I like? On the technical side, I want to change some keyboard shortcuts system wide. The problem I have is that every application has it's own configuration and I don't want to change settings on each and every location. For example I cannot set cut & paste system wide. I have to change it on every damn program, like Firefox, Office, File browser, and some software doesn't allow to change it. What I am trying to achieve is to make physically pressing Ctrl + c no longer work as copy on any software whatsoever (and instead, using different keys). I don't want to use convenience features for this, it must use Ctrl key. I guess this can be achieved using profiles?

hello, I only used cheap keyboards before and am thinking about buying a mechanical keyboard. I've seen some have GUI software to customize keyboard layouts. What are the features and limitations on these customizations? Is it possible to remap keyboard combinations such that you type a combination Ctrl + . and it sends the keys Ctrl + z to the PC? How do multiple layers work, can I use one layout in general and apply a different one automatically every time Ctrl key is pressed? Do keyboard manufacturers usually support Linux? thank you

The stand itself could act as a simple switch for the orientation. You are right VGA connector does not have an interrupt pin. I didn't check the others. The graphics card detects loss of signal and reads out EDID information from the monitor. So all it needs is sending no frames for a splitsecond during the tilt. honestly without minding the details I feel like technology is already there! Every monitor supports EDID and every graphics card detects loss of signal. Most OS reads out EDID and sets desktop environment based on monitor capabilities! So we have the OS, we have the driver and the hardware for it. a guy made a DIY project using arduino, accelerometer and python. here is a nice demo video: Notice the screen blackening out during reorientation. This does not happen on a tablet or smartphone. So it also depends a lot on your expectations. For me the blackening out would be totally acceptable!

what I know is horizontal / vertical screen resolution is provided to OS via EDID, which is read out over IIC. Any Video standard supports this, like VGA, HDMI, DVI... there is also an interrupt line for hot plug, so OS would know if something has changed. I disagree. There's virtually no cost involved. It would be convenient. But yes, orientation can be changed using a simple keyboard shortcut.

There are PC monitor with a stand which allow you to rotate it to portrait orientation. Changing between landscape and portrait would definitely be very nice, but I'd imagine it'd become rather annoying to change it frequently if you have to configure your OS for the monitors. On android OS display orientation is automatically detected. I wonder if a PC monitor provide that as well, you know, for desktop OS? If so how does it work, is it read out with EDID information or is there an interrupt? Also would it still work if a VESA moitor mounts are used? thank you for your help.

ok, so the problem is not related to CPU or GPU whatsoever. When opening the file explorer of the program the hourglass shows up and stays for ~30 seconds. During that time there is no activity seen on CPU, GPU, Network, RAM or hard drive. The status of the software is: not responding. I tried to use the explorer with the VPN tunnel switched off, it doesn't seem to be related but extensive tests are not possible due to license manager. My friend is searching for tech support from Creo, I don't think this is a generic Windows problem. ping @Arika S

Creo hardly uses CPU resources and the hour glass pops up when opening a project. Opening takes ~30 seconds.

GPU load when using the software is ~15% only.
