I'm glad it worked for you! Interesting remark about issues only appearing in Windows 10.I wonder if Linux would be fine too, this might be a Windows only issue.

    Hi guys,

Great to learn those Exxxx xeons are working in vostros.

I tried to get an L5430 (50w) xeon upgrade from q8300 (95w) using my Vostro 420 g45a01 mobo but no luck with 1.3.0 bios mod (lag issues in windows environment)

Might want to give it another try now that there is hope...

Any chance someone has the dell 1.2.0 bios rom file so I can add the necessary cpu microcodes?

    Thanks in advance

    Good evening Gents,

Just a quick post to confirm that the upload by Nobody.jp works like a charm by following the suggestion by kodel. Many thanks to you all!

    System specs:
    -Xeon L5420 (2.5GHz/12M/1333FSB)
    -Dell G45M03 motherboard from a Vostro 220s (DP/N 0P301D)
    -Flashed with flashrom

Thank you! Confirm your ROM (based on BIOS 1.2.0) working on Dell Vostro 220 with Xeon x5460 CPU. The modified 1.3.0 ROM didn't work with my setup, Windows stuck on loading. BTW how did you extracted 1.2.0 from exe file ?

Hello, so I know this post is over a year old. But I've followed the steps and in the bios it shows my Xeon but once in Windows it only shows my old cpu E7500. Now I did the patch with the Xeon installed in the Mobo already. Idk if that matters.
Edit: got it to work after some trouble shooting. Thank you for this post it was incredible help!

    Hi Ivan.

    Thank you for your response.

The way to retrieve the ROM file is very simple.
Please run Vx20-120.EXE and see "C:/Users/xxxxx/AppData/Local/Temp/_xxx.tmp"(It is possible on any PC)

There should be 4 files there.
    7C4D1P39.ROM
    FoxAwdWINFLASH.sys
    FoxAwdWINFLASH64.sys
    WinFlash.exe

    1.2.0 7C4D1P39.ROM
    1.2.4 7C4D1P43.ROM
    1.3.0 7C4D1P45.ROM

Oh, I gave it a wrong file name.
The file name is incorrect, but 7C4D1P43withXeon.rom is based on 1.2.0.
When looking at 7C4D1P43withXeon.rom in binary, you can check 7C4D1P39 at the file end.

    Hi Ati

The BIOS of Vostro 420 and Vostro 220s seem to be the same file
    See: https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=rn59m&lwp=rt
I think that you can use "7C4D1P43withXeon.rom" in this page

    You fixed it!
I modded my Vostro 220 a few years ago and had the same problem: very laggy windows 10 system due to high DPC and ISR CPU usage. Flashing your modded bios based on 1.2.0 immediately solved the problem.
I didn't need to disable Speedstep or C1E support. I only disabled C-STATE.

    Thank you for sharing!

    Additional info:
For the last 2 years I had Apple OS X installed on my Vostro. Strangely enough, the C-STATE incompatibility didn't effect OS X. It only caused a problem for Windows 10.
