  1. EDIT: SOLVED - PC was left unplugged from everything with PSU switch turned on for about 24h. Booted like normal Hello all, per the title, desktop was plugged in during overnight storm, through power cord and Ethernet. Plugging in the power cord makes a clicking sound, like an arc you get when plugging in an appliance. The sound could be from the plug's contacts or inside the PC for all I know. I can't recall if this used to be the case before the issue. For more context, prior to this (for about a year until now), after being powered off overnight, when powering on, some fan would make a rumbling noise. Upon turning the PC off and on, fans were normal. I heard this could've been a PSU issue, so maybe it's related. Help would be greatly appreciated CPU: Ryzen 3 1200 3.1 Ghz GPU: GIGABYTE WINDFORCE GTX 970 4GB RAM: G.Skill Aegis 1x16GB DDR4 Motherboard: Asus PRIME B350M-E (AM4) Case: Sharkoon SKILLER SGC1 Window Red
  2. I didn't expect that I'd need a TLDR on this subject... I guess I did. Thank you.
  3. I'm gonna be totally honest - I understood next to nothing from both of these replies... Thanks anyway
  4. How would I go about doing that? UEFI/BIOS? I saw a benchmark, but some people doubt the authenticity of benchmarks on YouTube, so I preferred to stay on the safe side and ask.
  5. I have a R3 1200 and 1x16GB 2133Mhz RAM. If I upgrade to R5 5600, how bad would the bottleneck be due to slow RAM? Faster RAM is out of budget. I play CPU intensive games (ArmA 3, GMod) and use CPU intensive software for image and audio work, so a GPU bottleneck doesn't really worry me. GPU: GIGABYTE WINDFORCE GTX 970 4GB Motherboard: Asus PRIME B350M-E Thanks a lot in advance!
  6. I recall there being a benefit of "spreading out" the sticks instead of having 1x16, know anything about that? BIOS is updated to the latest version that isn't a beta. No idea how they get away with releasing those.
  7. Probably something to do with the fact it hasn't been cleaned in like two years (correct me if i'm wrong). Which is horrible, but at least I have it on a table. Thanks for telling me where to start, though.
  8. I might have trouble finding a stick with the same speed, so, just to verify, it would be 100% okay to get a higher speed stick? Sorry for being annoying, I just don't like taking risks with things I don't know enough about.
  9. I'm planning on cleaning my PC a few days before getting the CPU, only then would I open the case and know if my PSU could supply that power, but I assume it would? Though, another problem I've been having is a fan (idk which one) sometimes makes a bit of a rumbling noise on startup and quiets down after running for some time. I know it's unrelated to the topic, but I've read it could be due to power supply issues(?).
  10. Isn't it dangerous to add two different sticks, that didn't come in the same package? Probably a money grabbing myth. I assume I'd need to get a 2133Mhz 16GB stick? Regardless, upgrading another piece of hardware seems unlikely right now.
  11. Is there a more accurate measure of power usage? If TDP isn't accurate, it's quite concerning. This CPU upgrade will probably be the last upgrade in several years that my PC will see. I might as well spend just the right amount of money on the CPU to make sure it's not bottlenecked. I'm not even exactly certain how the backplate works... I assume it wouldn't be possible to just put it back on when I've mounted the new cpu+cooler?
  12. 5600 is out of budget. I updated my BIOS a few days ago, and apparently both 5500 and 1200 draw the same power somehow? 65MW TDP. feel free to correct me because it sounds suspicious. New RAM is out of budget. If my current RAM/GPU will bottleneck the 5500, could you recommend a cheaper CPU that won't be bottlenecked? To apply the electrical tape, would I only need to remove the other side panel on the case? It seems like a bit of a guerilla approach though.
  13. I have a Ryzen 3 1200 in an Asus PRIME B350M-E. Planning to upgrade to Ryzen 5 5500. Is this a good upgrade? Are there better options for the price, excluding Intel? I have one 1080p monitor, play on lowest settings (Rust, ArmA 3, FIFA22 among others) and use creative/productive software (FL Studio, Paint.net) Also, I've noticed some mentions of the backplate. I'm not entirely into hardware, so forgive me: Is it possible to swap the CPU (both using their stock coolers) inside the tower? Will the backplate fall off when detaching the cooler? If so, how do I prevent that? Would also like some general tips about how to do the swap. I tend to not touch (or even look) inside my PC, so I'm quite paranoid I'll mess something up. Would be glad to give more info if needed. Thanks a lot! Case: Sharkoon SKILLER SGC1 Window Red RAM: G.Skill Aegis 1x16GB DDR4 GPU: GIGABYTE WINDFORCE GTX 970 4GB
  14. This is a good example, since I don't have one recorded: https://youtu.be/L_nmPOggN4g?t=386 I hear the same sort of beep from my headphones when launching a game.
