  1. Well here is a follow up for ya! I did get a X79 system and never have regretted it at all! I went ahead and spent a bit more on it seeing as I use my computer everyday. I went with this setup: Intel Core i7 4820K @ 4.1GHz Asus Rampage IV Black Edition nVidia Geforce GTX 780 Ti by Evga 32GB of DDR3 2400MHz CL10 RAM Asus Xonar Essence STX (An amazing sound card btw) Intel 530 240GB SSD and threw in a DVD writer from Asus CPU: Idle runs 31C - 36C, Load 41C - 50C. GPU: Idle 33C - 35C. Load 55C - 78C
  2. The only issue that evga board had in the past is power deliver issues especially to the PCIe bus. This issue has been remedied ...... mostly..... Evga boards in my opinion still do not offer as good power delivery quality as like Asus boards or some AsRock boards. Still Evga board are a lot better than they use to be. If it is one thing that Evga does have is IMPRESSIVE Customer Support. One time way back went I did a setup from a FX 5500 card to a 7300 GT 512MB vRAM card. Well they shipped a 7300 GT 128MB card to me....... Customer Support said ship it right back(We will pay) and we will rush the correct card 2 day air. That was exactly what they did but instead of getting that 7300 GT 512MB vRAM card they upgraded me to a 8600 GT card for the issues I had with them.
  3. Yeah and I have gone over this, and I can build X79 cheaper with a decent motherboard compared to Haswell and performs on par with Haswell i7. So once more stop and just give me advice on the motherboards. Do not go off topic to my OP.
  4. Last Warning. Seriosuly, I have done my research, compared, everything. Just don't. This is how fights start.
  5. I have dediced to go X79 with a Core i7 4820K and eventually a GTX 780 or GTX 780Ti. I have been looking up motherboard and I can not decide between a few, 1.) Asus X79 Deluxe. $349 Why? I love the features that come with the board, support is good, have had good luck with 2 past Asus Boards, Dual NIC, and a boat load of Sata Ports. Why Not? The gold theme will conflict with my blue LED for looks. Do not need that many Sata Ports (more a netural con). Top of price range. 2.) Evga X79 Dark. $399 Why? Love the color theme, Bridged Dual NICs, Evga Support is top rate. Why Not? Not exactly packed of features/extras, Pricy compared, Power Connector for the PCIe bus lanes????????, worried my Xigmatek Dark Knight sd1283 CPU heatsink may not fit. Needs a bios update to boot a GTX 700 series GPU. Concerned with past motherboard issues with this company. 3.) ASRock X79 Extreme6. $219 Why? Great Price, Feature Packed, good looks, PCH Fan. Why Not? PCI Port on Mobo... why... just why? legacy connectors like the PS/2 ports, Lacks of Dual NICs, not sure heatsink will fit, again a power connector for the PCIe bus lanes??? Worried about stories of lack of support, and Quality Control Issues. Please just compare these boards, I do not want to hear BUY THE MOST EXPENSIVE ONE NOOB, or other brands, I will not buy MSI, or Gigabyte boards, and do not tell me to go Haswell or something else I am sticking to X79. I am leaning towards the Asus X79 Deluxe but still scratching my head a bit....
  6. Agreed, Dead CPU . Are you able to obtain another cpu for cheap to test out if it really is a cpu problem? I have had it where I kept blowing cpus and motherboards cause my PSU was dying and throwing bad voltage. I doubt thats happening here but who knows.
  7. Clearly you do not read. This is specifically tailored to my needs where another persons post will be/could be insignificant to my exact questions. Plus others post seem to still be an argument between which is better. The 4770K was ahead on average by 0 to 10 FPS especially at lower resolutions (inconclusive win) then Dx11 games at high resolutions put the 4820K in the lead with some games, and the 4770K leading with others(still inconclusive win). That is not a clear cut victory at all since it depends on which game, and what resolution. I was also sad to see the temps chart where the 4820K ran cooler at idle and load. Now since performance is inconclusive to which is better. I also looked at platform options, and I see X79 as the winner for future expandability. Price wise: Core i7 4820K + Asus P9X79 + GTX 780 3GB FTW = ~$1100 Core i5 4670K + Asus Z87-Deluxe + GTX 780 3GB FTW = ~$1119 Core i7 4770K + Asus Z87-Deluxe + GTX 780 3GB FTW = ~$1245 Prices gathered from newegg as of 1/19/2014 I choose the 4820K/X79 because it performs similarly to the 4770K at high resolutions which I will be doing, the future expandability options (RAM, PCIe Cards, CPU Cores if ever needed), and a better price which then allows me to take that extra $145 bucks and get an awesome sound card as well. End of Conclusion. Solved. I thank some of you for your help, ability to read, and problem solve logically.
  8. Sure, http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/core_i7_4820k_processor_review,14.html (Two pages of benchmarks in games, on page 2 the 4770K was tested both stock, and OCed so dont get confused there) and http://www.neoseeker.com/resourcelink.html?rid=233661 ( the did multiple games with a good amount of different settings) These two sites where the only true relevant reviews that I could find.
  9. The 4820K performs virutally on par with the 4770K, check your real world benchmarks. The only true advantage the 4770K has is more instructions that Haswell introduced which to me is insigificant at this point.
  10. Alright so I took your advice and looked at cheaper motherboards for the X79 platform and found a few I am interested in, the Asus P9X79 ($244) AsRock X79 Extreme6 ($214) and MSI X79A-GD45 ($249) I am leaning towards the AsRock Motherboard for its extra Sata Ports that I use, features, and looks but I like the Asus board, Asus has always been good to me, and I love the Dual Inteligant Processors techonolgy they have, but the blue look to the board is nasty in my opinion but the MSI board has good features and seems well built but the lack of extra sata ports is a killer and MSI is a walk into the unknown for me along with AsRock So do these motherboards along with the 4820K, and a Geforce GTX 780 is less than my Haswell i5 build by $9! Totalling $1110. I think I shall go Ivy Bridge-E but what mobo do you recommend?
  11. Why the 770 over the 780? I already own 12GB of 1600MHz CL8 RAM, anything faster than 1600MHz is neligable unless the CL is lowered a lot. Also, why the i5 over the i7. I have seen in real world benchmarks with real games that the i7 does perform slightly better than the i5 ( Talking the Haswell Chips ) anywhere around 10 - 20FPS depending.
  12. Ok, right now I use all four RAM slots on my current motherboard, 12GB. I may want to add more in the future but it may not be needed. I will def have a 770/780, sound card, and raid in the PCIe bus. Maybe looking into SLI in future. I do, do a lot of gaming minecraft amplified worlds take 99% of my current i5-570 and I like all the in game eye candy I can get with my other games as well. I also have a lot of things run in background and I run a second monitor. I do some video/audio editing and converting. What is the best solution you recommend. i5 with Z87 with a 780 i7 with Z87 with a 770 i7 4820K with X79 with a 770
  13. Why do you advise against the 4GB 770? I run out of vRAM on my current 1.2GB 560Ti 448 core card. I like to run multiple HD programs at once and other background tasks. I ran out of memory one time by running a HD movie on one screen, a graphical intensive 1080p game in the other with another game and several pictures in the background. I do this often cuz I hate hate HATE waiting to close a program and wait for the other to load even with a fast ssd in my dekstop. This also left me with 1GB Free of RAM out of my 12GB of RAM. I would grab a 780 but those boards do get expensive and I only buy EVGA cards. Also, on the lower Asus motherboards I went with the Rampage IV, and Maximus VI due to both performance, features, and astatics (terrible spelling I know). My case has a window in it and I set it up for looks as well as performance. I love the compliments I get on it, and my friends and I, other people too do go into small competitions for the better looking setup. Also, I am shying away from the haswell chips for one thing too. Sleep mode. I have two friends that have haswell based laptops, and both can not put there laptops to sleep otherwise they BSOD. I have seen countless compliants online about this issue too and I use sleep mode a lot.
  14. Hey guys! Dediced to join in the discussions here at Linus Tech Tips! Huge Fan! Anyways, I am looking to upgrade my rig and dediced upon two builds, 1.) Intel Core i7 4820K, X79 Asus Rampage IV Black, EVGA GTX 770 4GB ACX Cooler GPU = ~$1265 2.) Intel Core i7 4770K (Maybe 4771), Z87 Asus Maximus VI Formula, EVGA GTX 770 4GB ACX GPU = ~$1110 I will be doing a ton of gaming especially with MMOs, BF4, NFS. I also do photo editing, Music/Video Editing and Converting, and of course the other eevryday tasks. I am going to have up to 2 GPUs for up to 2 120Hz monitors at some point, 1 PCIe Sound Card, and a PCIe Raid Card so I was thinking the X79 for the extra bandwidth ( 40 lanes vs 16 Lanes ) for the PCIe Bus. I am set on the CPUs I will not change that decision do not try to suggest others and I am set on my GPU do not try to suggest others, I am just unsure what I need as far as the motherboard. Opinions please?
