  1. Are you totally naive? You claim that you said no such thing, but you completely omitted that MD & Spectre are exploits that exploit both HW & SW.
  2. I am more than aware of of hardware interacts with software... It appears you have have zero understanding of this if you believe Meltdown & Spectre are now 'fixed' Erm, OK. LMG is selling out to whoever produces the checks. LG $8000 monitor, Intel 2 x $20,000 Xeon chips and so on. It's hard to be subjective and impartial when companies are throwing you thousands of dollars of product, do you seriously think for one second if LMG had slated Intel they would ever receive $40,000 of chips to 'review'? There really are some naive people on this forum, as I said before I worked in advertising for over 30 years, I know how the game is played and how Youtube has now become a cable TV channel for advertisers to exploit. I have unsubscribed, and LMG no longer gets any views or likes from me, however I am still entitled to voice MY opinion
  3. Firstly I own an Intel i7 6700, so I am hardly angry and a hater, I could buy a Ryzen tomorrow, but why should I? this i7 is fast enough for my needs. Secondly that vulnerability may be 20 years old, but just because it was not 'exploited' for 15 years does not make it somehow acceptable and an oversight. This is at the hardware level and contrary to Intel and the wider community stating it's not an issue, it REALLY is. Proper tech people and security people know this, so just patch your system with a microcode update and a band-aid from M$, till the next time!
  4. How about building your computer in a toilet? It will provide top end cooling, the s-bend will provide cooling which will be guaranteed to give you 20 degrees drop in idle temps and at least 10 degrees under load
  5. I am not angry at all, I may be slightly aggrieved, (by your interjection in this thread) but that does not equate to being angry. Can we kiss and make-up? If you naively think a business will not be open to funded bias, then you really have no idea how business works and more importantly how advertising works. I worked in advertising for many years, we would have given our left testicle to have a YT channel to target adverts at back in 1998. We had a budget for the year and it was generally pushed to TV adverts, that's ok, but to push a TV adverts means you are not targetting 100% of your demographic, it's wasted money, however, by targetting YT channels you already have your demographic, why would an ad agency spend £2 million on a tv advert that may reach 2% of their demographic when they can spend $50,000 on a YT channel which has over 5 million subscribers and are essentially their demographic? You do not need to be Einstein to work that out, create a tv advert which may hit 2% of your demographic from 300,00 million tv viewers for $2 Million or spend $50,000 to target 5 million people who are clearly your demographic, as evidenced by LTT subscribers. Let us not forget, in a recent video Linus was sent 2 x Xeon $20,000 chips from Intel, I guess Intel did that out of pure kindness, nothing to do with a contract is it lol
  6. That reply is pathetic, if you have nothing constructive to add to this thread, then may I heartily request you no longer add such retarded nonsense. Thank you for actually taking the time to impart something relevant to the debate, however, the link you supplied is merely a load of babble-speak. Does Linus MG adhere to those (frankly pointless ) ethics? It's easy to post a link citing what you 'do', it's harder to actually implement and adhere to those ethics. Linus can easily entertain the viewer, and still impart good technical knowledge.(which he used to do) I have no preference for any other YT channel, Nexus Gamers, JawyzTwocents, Barnaleus Nerdgasm and so on, Hell, I do not even have a YT subscription any more. I am only interested in watching videos that are informative, which is second-hand knowledge (usually paid-for) , I can then take this information and make-up my own mind regarding any purchase.
  7. Seriously? Linus MG is a business, their sole raison d'etre is to generate profit, why would they be unlike any other business? If you ran a business and Intel said to you " Here's $15,000, can you put out a review video for damage limitation regarding Meltdown & Spectre?" - what would you do? respectfully decline? I doubt it very much. Now that's not me having a go at Linus or Linus MG, it's the way of business, and Youtube channels with huge followings are now the target for advertisers. I guess that was the main point of this thread when I started it. People need to be aware that the big YT channels are now being paid to advertise, so can you really believe the reviews and videos they produce? They are paid for advertorials, infomercials etc.
  8. You could try forcing a network reset go to network and internet and try running the troubleshooter and network reset options
  9. Oh I know it's a pig of a case, I was just stating why there is a huge gap under the case, and there's no need to be so salty in your reply!
  10. The gap at the bottom is because the PSU is located at the bottom, it allows airflow in to the PSU - duh!
  11. Did you disable event log service by any chance? Disabling that in Win10 causes all sorts of problems with connections. type in to search msconfig go to services tab and select enable all click apply, reboot and hope for the best
  12. EDIT Beaten to it... I have UEFI and wiped all my drives of win7 after getting a rootkit via Meltdown in December that was on all the drives and impossible to remove. I had to manually /clean all (which took 2 days on both drives) I had absolutely nothing on all my hard drives, not even formatted but I was able to go in to the BIOS and set the boot order to USB so I could install windows 10
  13. This is easy... Boot from the win10 installer when you get to the install page, hit install windows. now you will see all your hard drives in your system, at this point hit SHIFT & F10 a command prompt will open Now type in diskpart now type in list disk you will see all the physical drives listed that are in your system like so Disk 0 online 250GB Disk 1 online 500GB Disk 2 online 2000GB THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT, MAKE SURE YOU SELECT THE CORRECT DISK, I CANNOT EMPHASIZE THIS ENOUGH, YOU ARE GOING TO WIPE ALL THE DATA SO MAKE SURE YOU GET THE 500GB SSD YOU WANT TO WIPE CLEAN note the Disk number of the old SSD you want to wipe clean MAKE SURE YOU SELECT THE CORRECT ONE, YOU CAN TELL BY IT'S SIZE - as you said it's a 500GB SSD now type in select disk 1 (or whatever number the 500GB SSD is you want to wipe clean) in the window it will say disk 1 is now the selected disk WHEN YOU ARE CERTAIN YOU HAVE THE CORRECT DISK type in /clean Now power off the system You can now boot to your NVME drive and once you get in to windows go to computer management to initialize and format your 500GB SSD so you can use it. OF COURSE IF YOU ARE UNSURE THEN DO NOT DO THIS, IT REQUIRES KNOWLEDGE AND IF YOU SELECT THE WRONG DISK AND /clean IT YOU WILL LOSE ALL DATA ON THAT DRIVE SO DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK!
  14. I agree re: the physical RAM point, most people, especially gamers will see no benefit from 16GB or 32GB over 8GB, with DDR4 currently over £160 for 16GB then stick with 8GB and go up a model on the GPU with that £80 saved. You can always upgrade to 16GB when the prices drop. When I built this machine I paid £80 for 16GB, (June 2016) it's now double the price for the same amount. You make a good point regard memory speed, 7th Gen only officially supports 2133mhz and 8th gen 2400, faster ram is only required for overclocking - end of. That's a very valid post!
