  1. Hi everyone, so I just got a new MSI GTX 1080 OC ARMOR for my current setup, and it has been acting weirdly since I just installed it and I'm sort of new to 10 series overclocking so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. The problem being that I'm trying to undervolt my graphics card using the power limit at MSI Afterburner. Changing the power limit from 100% to 90% or changing the mem clk/core clk will result in a freeze, no BSOD's however it just stutters and will eventually lock up. One thing I noticed after the applying oc settings that the voltage is no longer reported, it only shows 0mv. There is however an exception when increasing voltage it won't apply the setting I just set it to. Additionally, the card at max load will not turbo up to beyond stock speeds. (probably a power supply issue right?) Here is my spec list: Huananzhi X99-TF Xeon E5-2620 v3 Turbo Unlocked 24GB ECC RDIMM MSI GTX 1080 ARMOR OC Litepower 550w 12v=456w the cpu+gpu+motherboard vrm is all watercooled.
  2. Hey guys, i have a current build with the following specs: Intel Core i5 3330 OC to 3.8 ghz ASUS P8Z77-M PRO Sapphire R9 270 2GB GDDR5 2x4 Apacer DDR3 1333MHZ ram 3x SATA 7.2K RPM HDD 1x SATA 5.4k RPM HDD (long term storage, for downloads) 2x 768p monitors To upgrade, I have around RM500 which is roughly around 120 USD. I have a friend that is currently selling a RX 570 4GB Red Devil (3 fan variant) for around 87 USD / RX 580 4GB for around 90 USD. As for the upgrade, i'm not sure if I should wait for a better option. I'm currently on my semester break. If i get back to my university, i can save up to RM800 (excluding the money I currently have right now) which is roughly 150 USD and probably get a better deal (if there is any). I don't get to play games that much at my dormitory, so I worry if I upgrade to a RX 580/570, it would be a waste since I don't get to use it at all (not allowed to bring a desktop). And there is also and issue about bottlenecking, there is a possibility of my CPU will bottleneck the RX 580/570. So my question is, which is a better upgrade path? The games I usually play w/ friends is mostly borderlands 2, insurgency, left 4 dead, the forest, (co-op games) at 720p, doesn't matter what setting, as long as i get min avg fps 60.
  3. yes, but when i removed it from the case, it still is the same anyways, i tried a different processor, a core i5 3330 and it still wont post.
  4. the board in question has been updated so no need to worry i'm gonna try reading the manual if memOK lights should light up if no dimms are installed
  5. added a graphics card, still the same result, all video outs tested. all the components except the CPU has been tested, will try the 3470 on the h61 board
  6. General System Configuration Intel Core i5 3470 (no overclocks) Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB DDR3 ASUS P8Z77-M Troubleshooting methods done 1. Removing the RAM. Result : It powers on, no video and no memOK light. 2. Using different power supplies. Results : Again, powers on, no video and no memOK light. 3. Reseating the CPU. Results: see above. 4. removing the CMOS battery to reset to defaults Results: see above. Additional information this system was built on 2013, stopped working since last year due to a dead GPU. Multiple technicians recommended a power supply swap or motherboard swap. My friend didn't go with either. He sent it to me, the original power supply is healthy, ram is also in working condition. It booted up previously, with memOK lights and able to boot to BIOS, however, after inserting the board into the case, it didn't boot up. removed the board from the case, sat it on a box and troubleshoot it again, results are no memOK lights, and just able to power on with no video.
  7. Anyways I went ahead with the baking and it was successful What I did was - dissemble the heatsink, leaving the gpu board exposed - wrap everything in aluminium foil but leaving the gpu die exposed - temp at 190c - frequently check for 1~2 minutes - 10 minutes bake - leave until room temperature - reassemble it back, applied new thermal compound
  8. Yes, I did reapplied thermal compound, cleaned the fins of the heatsink. It does boot, can't install the drivers. Most of the peeps at reddit or amd i think adviced me to bake it. I'll try to find a link. A friend of mine baked a similar GPU as mine too, the plastic and caps expanded I have seen the video, but I would like clarification as most people do it differently, eg wrap in tin foil
  9. So after reading several posts on reddit and amd, i think my gpu has died on me after collecting dust. - I know the consequences but i'll be 100% responsible for it - I do have another GPU, which is a GT 640, so i have nothing to lose So, as i prepare for the baking procedure, i have several questions - Most of the guides i seen online do not cover the capacitors and plastic components with aluminium foil, is this optional, i'm just scared the caps will expand and the plastic components melt. ex, fan header, 6 pin power connector. - How many minutes should I bake the graphics card, 8 minutes to 10 minutes? - orientation of the graphics card, should it be laid flat on top of tin foils or the gpu die facing downwards or wrap the whole thing in aluminium foil and only expose the gpu die the graphics card in question is an Sapphire R9 270 Dual-X 2GB GDDR5
  10. I guess its pretty much dead, no other option then to bake it in an oven
  11. It's a fresh install - PSU , a Corsair CX650M - Card does work in 3D application but slow, i simulated a load from cinebench r15 opengl test I got the driver to install, manually from device manager, now it just locks up after windows 10 boot screen
  12. So I got my old R9 270 to put in my core 2 quad system, after removing NVIDIA drivers using DDU and MSI Afterburner, I proceeded to install AMD drivers. Few minutes into the installation and pc flickers for a while and locks up to a black screen. Keyboard and mouse does not respond at all. However, upon force restart it boots to windows just fine no safe mode or whatsover. Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 Sapphire R9 270 Dual-x 6GB DDR2 650W PSU
  13. its fairly new, only a month old. I think it's far from OEM. Maybe I'm wrong.
  14. I do have an extra power supply, a 500W unit one (branded), the 12v rail most likely has more than 40A, however this power supply brought down a motherboard before, an ASUS Z77 m-atx. The PSU fan was spinning though. Worth to try?
  15. it's my current pc, i already have all the parts
