  1. I removed the DP cable and inserted HDMI. Windows now allows me to switch on HDR under 'Display Settings' > 'Play HDR Games and Apps'. Upon turning it on, the display immediately gets washed out. The colours became very bland and dim. I then tried going to Youtube and searched for HDR sample videos. The colours in the HDR sample video appears vibrant and brightness was back to normal. When I switched on HDR on Windows, the display goes back to normal, but the HDR video on Youtube immediately becomes ultra saturated and unrealistic. Am I doing something wrong here? Please hellllllp!!
  2. I just bought an Acer Predator XB253QGP Monitor. It supports FHD 144Hz, HDR400, G-Sync. The problem is, it comes with DP 1.2a and HDMI 2.0. DP1.2a does not support HDR, while HDMI 2.0 does not support G-Sync. I need G-Sync because I'm running an Nvidia GTX 1080. Does this mean that I have to choose between HDR (HDMI) and G-Sync (DP), but I can never have both at the same time?
  3. Hi, I would like to know if there's some errors with my R20 scores. I just bought a Lenovo Ideapad Slim 5 rocking a Ryzen 4700U, 16GB 3200MHz, 512GB PCIe NVMe etc... I ran R20 on it and guess what? 3004. I couldn't believe my eyes, so I ran it again. 3020! I find this to be very weird since it matches the i9-9880H, and trounces the i7-9750H. Also, YT reviewers managed scores of 2600ish, which is 400 lower than mine. This would make the 4700U as fast as a desktop 2600? The 4700U is 8c/8t, running at 15W, while the 2600 is 6c/12t at 65W. This is mind boggling to say the least. Please enlighten, thanks.
  4. I live in Singapore and we use Type C (non-grounded) and Type G (grounded) power plugs. Recently, I bought a Thermaltake Toughpower RGB 750W PSU. I opened it and found a Type F (Europe) plug. I suspect that the local distributor fked up and gave me a EU stock instead of Singapore stock. While the Type F plug fits into our socket, there is no grounding since there is no protruding ground pin from sticking out from the socket. My question is, will the plug be safe to use? Or should I get the proper Type G plug from the distributor? Also, will plugging the power supply into a extension cord (with type G grounding) which is then plugged into the wall socket solve the problem? The PSU power plug is rated at 16A and that of the extension cord is only 13A? Will it be safe? I don't want to burn down my house, or have myself electrocuted from a short circuit, that's all. Can anyone please help?
  5. Yes, agreed. I watched the video. I was referring to comments people made about the FTC ruling. If a customer offers to pay for repairs, manufacturers shouldn't be treating what they did linus
  6. The fault in this case (user inflicted damage) isn't even covered by the original manufacturer warranty. The new FTC ruling isn't relevant here.
  7. I feel very sorry for you bro... Gaming laptops in malaysia ship with 4GB of system ram... That's a sin! In Singapore, 4000rm can get a 1050ti with 8gb system ram if you know where to find it. You don't need a 1050ti to enjoy DOOM. Sure, 1050ti will run with higher fps and higher settings but 1050 can still maintain above 60fps on medium/high. Problem is if you only have 4gb ram, you will need to buy another 4gb immediately.
  8. 1) it's a totally new laptop. No bloatware of any sort 2) if i have to do that, shouldn't i be eligible for a new replacement unit? Its 7700hq with 1060
  9. I bought the above stated laptop recently. After having used it for a week, I noticed 2 things. 1) after I have updated windows to the latest version and all the drivers (according to acer care, I have the latest drivers), there are random stutters when I do a right click on the desktop screen/shutdown/fire up certain applications, and when I playback a video on youtube in fullscreen. My laptop freezes for ~0.5s doing the right click. The screen can freeze for more than 5 seconds in youtube fullscreen. 2) I have checked out many reviews by dave2d, LTT, Mobiletechreview and many others. They touted this laptop as extreme value for its money. I agree with this. They also mentioned the laptop has adequate, if not good, heat management. In one of the videos, the graphs showed ~80C for both CPU and GPU after a period of heavy stress test. For my unit, after a short gaming session on ff14:ARR on max settings, i checked predatorsense and was shocked to see above 90C for both CPU and GPU. Both CPU and GPU weren't even at full loads...
  10. If you poke around forums and the internet, you will find many complaints about Razer laptops' build quality (or lack thereof), and their abysmal/non-existent customer service. Go with Asus or MSI. They offer 2 year warranty. Acer's predator series in my country offers 3 years warranty. Not sure about other countries though. Might be just 2 years
  11. You need at least 8GB of system ram. 4 GB isn't enough even for a dozen Chrome tabs, much less gaming. DOOM will run just fine on a 1050 on FullHD resolution. Just play around with the settings and you'll be fine. If you dont mind me asking, what is your budget? How many ringgit?
