  1. you my friend, are a genius. Thanks for the idea! by using the HDD in a 2nd laptop I was able to boot the needed software! thanks again!
  2. I dont know which one the jumper is though. If you look at the picture it doesnt look the same as the one the manual describes, even though its the same laptop. It doesnt clearly say CMOS or anything
  3. I for the life of me cannot get this to reset. My mom gave me her old laptop, which she doesn't remember her login info. I have software to fix that no problem.. only issue is that I need to boot from CD to run that. I tried to go into the BIOS to set it to boot from CD but its locked. She didn't even know it was passworded and I cannot figure out how to reset it. I know on most laptops and desktops you simply remove the CMOS battery for a while, replace it and the password is reset.. thats not the case for this. I took the laptop apart all the way down to the motherboard, there is no battery at all. I looked at the service manual and it says to jump the J1 under the memory modules.. my laptop does not look the same as their picture and there is no J1 jumper.. any help would be greatly appreciated! Laptop is an Acer Aspire 5517 The acer manual http://tim.id.au/laptops/acer/aspire%205517.pdf Says this jumper: http://imgur.com/KMwky9o My laptop looks like: http://imgur.com/0qqBPMH
  4. Update: Case Ordered! And yes I do realize a lot on this build is overkill, like water cooling the RAM. As a previous post had stated, "balls to the walls" is sort of the way I'm going.
  5. Another quick update: I thought of a pretty badass case mod, so I changed cases to the NZXT Switch 810 for this purpose.. lets just say there will be sculpting, claws, an epic battle. To top it off there will be some firebreathing!.. Stay tuned.
  6. Small Update. I saw the mouse I wanted at a local shop, so I had to pick it up. So far I'm in love with it! I did realize that I need a better camera!
  7. I would never hit the 64GB threshold.. thats more than overkill. But someday in the future we will be seeing 64GB 'norms' in gaming machines.. Just not that soon of a future lol.
  8. It's going to be in the vicinity of around $4000-$5000 when it is all said and done. I will be doing a lot of graphic design, video editing and some rendering as well. That's why I chose a bit higher specs, and might even jump to 32GB RAM just for the editing portion. *shrug* eh who knows
  9. Legend: ☒ - Ordered ☑ - Received ◻ - Not yet ordered or received This is the first build I have done in a very long time.. Goals are for gaming and some video/image editing on the side. At the time of this posting I haven't ordered anything yet but I have the build list ready to go. Just waiting for my tax returns to hit and I'm off to go shopping! I call this project, Hydra - because of the multiple monitors I will have and my fascination with dragons. I realize the PSU is "overkill" to start with, but I plan to add an additional video card just for kicks PC Components: ◻ CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core ◻ Motherboard: Asus MAXIMUS VI FORMULA ◻ RAM: G.Skill Trident X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2666 Memory ◻ SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB ◻ HDD: Western Digital BLACK SERIES 1TB ◻ GPU: Asus Radeon R9 290X 4GB ☒ Case: NZXT Switch 810 (Black) ◻ PSU: Corsair 860W Fully-Modular ◻ Optical Drive: Samsung DVD/CD ◻ Monitor: BenQ 24.0" ◻ Keyboard: Corsair Vengeance K70 (Black w/ Red Backlighting) ☑ Mouse: Razer Naga Hex (Red/Black MOBA version) ◻ Case Fans: BitFenix BFF-LPRO-14025R-RP Spectre Pro 140mm LED Case Fan, Red Watercooling Components: ◻ EK RAM Monarch DIMM Module - 2 Pack ◻ EK Monarch Series X2 Ram Liquid Cooling Block ◻ CPU, GPU, GPU Backplate, MOSFETs ◻ XSPC EX240 Radiator ◻ XSPC EX360 Radiator ◻ XSPC Photon 270 Tube Glass Cylinder Reservoir / Pump Combo (D5 Vario) ◻ XSPC Vario Beauty Ring ◻ 18x Bitspower Premium G1/4" Black Matte High Flow 7/16" ID (5/8" OD) Compression Fittings ◻ 10x Yate Loon D12SM-12 120mm Red LED Fans for Rads ◻ Bitspower Adjustable Aqua Link Pipe II ◻ PrimoFlex Advanced LRT Tubing - 7/16in.
