  1. Oh wow, yeah I thought it was 16b, which would have been usable.. Bummer. Was hoping to get away with paying less for a reputable older brand. Well thanks for your time and expertise!
  2. For Context this is one of the one I am looking at.. https://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/MEQX2KIT0GB/ Can be had used for around $75, vs $300 new with usb 3.1...
  3. Probably not often, but hypothetically once in a while it may need to go to another location (say, a hired editor, or to my director's house)
  4. Thanks, yeah I would be using mechanical drives, in either raid 0 (2 drive bay) or raid 5 (4+ bay).. I use a little bit of everything. Almost everyone I work with in film uses mac, (I have a macbook) and I also use a pc tower that I prefer at home. The idea would be to use an esata to usb adapter cable, though and use this for mass storage that is a little faster and more reliable than a cheap single external drive (seagate, WD, etc.)
  5. Yeah that's the big question, they are from the fire wire age, so I guess it will only support SATA? I would be using spinning drives, so really all I am asking of it is to reach their maximum potential in a raid 0 or possibly raid 5
  6. Long time listener, first time caller. I am an independent film producer, and as such I work on a ton of projects with no money, but fairly large storage needs. I have noticed some decent older OWC raid enclosures available in the used market. However they are from the firewire generation, but they do have esata connections on the back.... I was wondering if these older controllers using that esata connector would be comparable in speed (using an adapter cable) to something newer with usb 3? I can't seem to find any documentation that would help me, so I figured I would ask the community of super knowledgable people here. Also feel free to tell me if this is a stupid idea for reasons I'm not thinking of!
  7. I have been looking for dual 27" setup recently, as well. There are some great offerings in the $400-$500 range, but my big concern is finding one that has display port 1.4 ... I really like the look of some of the asus tuf monitors, but not all features are available over display port, because they have dp 1.2... hoping someone on here can help! Here is the asus I was looking at: ASUS TUF Gaming VG27AQL1A LTT just did a video recommending the LG 27GN950, or its predecessor, the LG 27GL850, the latter of which looks good for my price range, but pretty sure its not going to have DP 1.4...
  8. Managed to set everything up on an old rasp pi, and seems to be working properly. I am seeing traffic being blocked on pi hole, however, youtube ads are very hit and miss. Most channels I still get ads at the beginning of the video. I would say this is a great tool, especially for banner and side bar ads, but like everything in life, its hit and miss. Thanks team Linus!
  9. Thanks, yeah I ended up getting a dual band AC1300 router from Asus. I think the MIMU will be a big help as I have 3 roommates all streaming wirelessly at some times. I may need to turn on qos at some point too...
  10. Yeah, this would be the 3rd tp link I will be replacing (I end up helping other people out with even more limited networking experience than myself.) They are ok for being on the cheapest end, but all of them were reliable for 2-3 years, and then either need to be regularly power cycled, or other issues. I will probably move to Asus, as I am very happy with all the other gear I have from them, and I like that when you retire an asus, you can use it as a repeater.
  11. Its just a modem. ARRIS TM1602. I specifically didn't want to go with their combo as its more expensive/ monthly and at least to my knowledge 3rd party routers are far more capable?
  12. TP-Link N450 Wi-Fi Router - Wireless Internet Router for Home, Wireless Access Point Mode (TL-WR940N) Not the fanciest, so no worries if its new router time!
  13. Hey All, long time listener, first time caller! So I have spectrum 100mbps internet here in my home. However recently I have been consistently getting 50mbps on my pc wired via cat6 through a tp link(brand) router to the modem, and my ping has gone from 30ms to 250-300ms. I have isolated the issue to the router itself. Straight out of the modem I am getting 100mbps and more like 30ish ping. I am wondering if there are any settings that could be the issue or tweaked, or is it new router time? Thanks, you guys are great!
