  1. This my first post in this community. So here it goes... I'm from Sri Lanka. I did the wiring in my house, I built it from the ground up splitting the loads. All devices with high power draw on one circuit and the low power devices such as CFL lights, fans, PC on one circuit. I have a UPS installed to the low power draw circuit. For the past several months, I've used a KStar Micropower 1.5KVA (960W) modified sinewave line interactive UPS. Last month I upgraded (spending a lot of money) to a Prolink 1KVA Online UPS (PRO901WS) which is rated at 800W (total power draw doesn't exceed 700W). Now every time I connect a PC or LED TV in the house (plug in), its PSU startup power draw (inrush to charge its caps) causes lights to flicker in the entire house (even with like 10% load). My PSU's are 350W Cooler Master PSU's (No extra GPU's in my PC's). the TV is a 32" Samsung LED TV. The old modified sinewave UPS has inverter that can even cold start our small fridge as it has a 3KA ICC rating. My new Online UPS on the other hand can't even handle the starting current of a computer PSU, or a small LED TV. My old UPS modified sinewave inverter has a two 35V 2200uf capacitors on the DC link by design (point of battery connect). Since my new Online UPS is still under warranty, I didn't open it up. But when this voltage drop (flicker) occurs I can clearly hear a squeaking sound of a capacitor discharging rapidly, so I believe the DC link capacitor(s) on the Online UPS is too small (underrated) and therefore its inverter is not having a proper ICC (peak current, withstand) rating. I spoke to the local agents technician, and they were like "its the 1KVA model, so its normal". I wrote to Prolink headquarters and told them "An 1KVA or 10KVA.. an Online UPS is not something cheap and there is a standard one expects from it.". Why should someone freaking buy a online UPS and have to put up with this kind of flicker for the power draw of PSU or TV. Just want to know if other small Online UPS's are also having the same behavior from other manufacturers. BTW, when the UPS bypass is on it doesn't happen. So it rules out a wiring issue. VIDEO : Thanks.
