What the heck happened? the MSI Z87-G43 had XP drivers yesterday but now today it doesn't have XP drivers listed anymore? https://us.msi.com/Motherboard/Z87-G43.html Even the official page says it's Windows XP compatible and I swear I went over to the driver section and double checked that it had XP drivers and it for sure did but now it doesn't

Whenever I search for older components like these motherboards and processors on ebay, I see mostly listings from China. Are any of these possibly fakes? It seems a bit fishy to me how 90% of these listings are from china or hong kong with cheaper prices than the local ones. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=msi+Z87-G43&_sacat=0&rt=nc&_fsrp=1

Well, I found out the MSI Z87-G43 on LGA1150 has XP drivers! Which means I could use an i7 4790k which would be faster than x79's offerings for single core and officially make it the fastest gaming cpu with official XP drivers that I know of. I think I'm going to try it anyways and hope for the best. This is kind of an experiment that I want to do.

Is there another CPU that's better than the 3770k for single core performance that's officially supported on Windows XP?

Yup, I'm aware of the security vulnerabilities of XP and plan for this pc to be offline only, don't wanna compromise the rest of my network. That's good to know. I have a 2x8GB kit, since 32bit Windows can only address 4GB, would it still know operate in dual channel to see those benefits or would it just address the first 4GB it sees in one channel and ignore the rest? I didn't even think of doing that! I'll definitely try it, I'm not sure how much benefits single core performance would see but it's probably worth doing

I've decided I want to build a PC that will run Windows XP 32bit and I want to use the most powerful officially supported components that still have high compatibility. I plan to pick up a quality CRT monitor for this build and a future Windows 98 build I'd like to do, so the GPU should support analog output in some capacity but I believe all cards prior to Pascal support analog output. Not sure about AMD side though. So far I'm thinking Intel i7 3770k on a Z77 platform with an Nvidia GTX 780ti. I'm not super familiar with any memory limitation intricacies Windows XP 32bit has and I see mixed information from random forums that can date back to 2001. I have questions like: "Can I have 4gb RAM and also have a 3GB video card?" "Can I have more than 4GB physical RAM and have Windows only use 4GB on boot so it's seamless with no compatibility issues? If so, how would I get dual channel to work if the kit is say, 2x4GB or 2x8GB?" "What are the maximum storage device size limitations?" I've already considered the GTX 690 and decided against it because I'm not sure about SLI stability in general (cool card tho). I'm aware that technically the GTX 980ti and Titan X are supported on XP with a minor driver edit, but I don't want to pay current gpu prices for those cards and it's not technically "out of the box supported" so they don't follow my "officially supported" theme i have going on. let me know if I'm missing any other potential GPU contenders. I'll come right out and say it, I'm not really sure if the i7 3770k is the absolute endgame CPU for this build. I'm really just looking for best single core performance here. And I guess this is where my research ended and I hopped on this forum. I've been researching for 3 days now very inefficiently. I'd really like to see a list of motherboards and chipsets that support XP but somehow haven't found any online. Also interested in any pc case suggestions, thinking of getting like an early to mid 2000s period accurate case or something but I don't know any off hand. I'm 24 years old and always played with PCs growing up but I never really got into PCs until 2016 so there's a lot of hardware history I missed completely.

Steelseries Arctis Pro Wireless vs Siberia V2 sound quality?
Inkadinkadoo replied to Inkadinkadoo's topic in Audio
I'm aware of audiophile quality headphones, however I need a mic and have no space for a dedicated mic on my desk. If I'm going to spend ~$300 on a pair of headphones, it's gotta be my headset for everything, not just explicitly listening to music or watching movies. (can't game with no mic). This doesn't really answer my question -
Steelseries Arctis Pro Wireless vs Siberia V2 sound quality?
Inkadinkadoo replied to Inkadinkadoo's topic in Audio
Why? I just want to know if the audio quality is at least the same or better than the Siberia V2 -
Hi guys, I've been looking at the Steelseries Arctis Pro Wireless for a while now, and it checks every box except for 1. I've been using Siberia V2's for the last 7+ years because all the other headsets I've tried in recent years have had much worse sound quality than my V2's. I'm aware the Arctis Pro Wired headset has near audiophile sound quality and the Wireless version has worse sound quality. Has anybody tried both the Siberia V2 and the Arctis Pro Wireless headsets? I want to know from somebody who's tried both if the sound quality is at least the same or better than the Siberia V2

Couple questions: 1: Is choosing "Reset this PC" with all the data deletion settings checked functionally the same as if I booted from a Windows Recovery/install disk, opened command prompt, and ran "clean all" on each disk, then reinstalling Windows? 2: Will anything I do affect change the Raid configuration 3: If I write all bits to 0 with "clean all", then how would it be possible to recover ANY data from the SSD/HDD? Why would I need enterprise grade data deletion software? Link to original comment and question: Sorry I'm double posting, but I feel like the original thread probably died. Thanks in advance

Okay so I just saw Linus's NCIX video about configuring Raid and it's not painful at all like I thought it would be. Couple questions now: 1: Is choosing "Reset this PC" with all the data deletion settings checked functionally the same as if I booted from a Windows Recovery disk, opened command prompt, and ran "clean all" on each disk, then reinstalling Windows? 2: Will anything I do affect change the Raid configuration 3: If I write all bits to 0 with "clean all", then how would it be possible to recover ANY data from the ssd? Why would I need enterprise grade data deletion software?

So can I just use the "Reset this PC" function? Or do I have to manually write all drives to 0 and reinstall Windows and configure Raid myself? I mainly just want to avoid having to learn about configuring Raid right now

Okay, so I'm planning on selling an MSI laptop with Windows factory installed on 2 128GB NVMe drives in a Raid 0 configuration. Like any time you want to sell a pc or get rid of it, you want to erase all your data from the drives to prevent someone stealing something important. Can I just choose "Reset this PC" in Windows settings to erase all files (write to 0) while keeping the Windows 10 installation on Raid 0 intact? Or do i have to manually write all drives to 0 then fully reinstall Windows 10 on a newly configured Raid 0? I hope not because I have no experience configuring Raid and I don't have the Windows 10 key it came pre-installed with.

USB wired mouse vs wireless mouse input lag?
Inkadinkadoo replied to Inkadinkadoo's topic in Peripherals
Decided to go with the Corsair Dark Core RGB SE https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826816109 It's cheaper, has higher DPI, has a sniper button, has wireless charging, looks way more ergonomic and less ugly, and has that same low latency tech. And as an added bonus, it matches the rest of my Corsair branding lol -
USB wired mouse vs wireless mouse input lag?
Inkadinkadoo replied to Inkadinkadoo's topic in Peripherals
Well, it seems to be working for me! I typically get top frag in most of the casual matches I play using the "sniper" button (it's cringey just saying it, I know). But considering the G900 seems to have the lowest input lag for wireless mice, I might get it for that reason alone. Do you know if it's possible to map a sort of sniper button to one of the side buttons? -
USB wired mouse vs wireless mouse input lag?
Inkadinkadoo replied to Inkadinkadoo's topic in Peripherals
I would've normally agreed with you, but now after using the M65 Pro's sniper button, it just feels unnatural on the m95 because the sniper button on the m65 is in the ergonomic position for your thumb to press it in it's resting position instead of having to move it to hit that button. I use this constantly, as I play with a high DPI-low sensitivity setting on CS:GO for quick turns and situational awareness, then hold the "sniper" button when i want to aim more precisely to shoot at someone. This wouldn't be achievable with the normal DPI arrow buttons that only switch between settings, while the "sniper" button only uses that lower (or higher) DPI setting while the button is depressed. -
USB wired mouse vs wireless mouse input lag?
Inkadinkadoo replied to Inkadinkadoo's topic in Peripherals
Thanks for the find! by the way, is there a "sniper" button on the Logitech G900 or a button I can configure to change the DPI setting when pressed? I tend to use that a whole lot. -
USB wired mouse vs wireless mouse input lag?
Inkadinkadoo replied to Inkadinkadoo's topic in Peripherals
I'd prefer to stay away from wireless charging mats, as it's for my laptop and i generally use it on my lap or on the couch with a small (flimsy) table stand. something like, a hybrid, where you can use it wirelessly and it has a removable usb cable that can charge the mouse and use it wired if need be would be nice. -
I have a (x years old) Corsair Vengeance M95 USB wired gaming mouse and a Corsair M65 Pro USB wired gaming mouse. I've noticed there seems to be a noticeably larger amount of input lag with the M95 than the M65, And I was considering replacing the M95 for my laptop with a wireless gaming mouse. Is it possible for certain wired USB gaming mice to have MORE input lag than certain wireless gaming mice? I play FPS games typically with maxed out DPI (12,000 on my M65 Pro) and low in game sensitivity, because I prefer my micro movements to register input.. Can anyone recommend me a good high DPI, low latency wireless gaming mouse?

upgrade to 1080ti or 8700k?
Inkadinkadoo replied to Davidf4e's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Or if you really dont care about your wallet catching fire, you could get 2 1080ti's and run them in SLI. Or better (worse) yet, 2 Titan Xp's in SLI -
upgrade to 1080ti or 8700k?
Inkadinkadoo replied to Davidf4e's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Just remembered, if you decide to upgrade to an 8th gen intel cpu, you'll have to also upgrade your motherboard to a Z370 motherboard, as the Z270 and other chipsets are incompatible with 8th gen Coffee Lake processors -
upgrade to 1080ti or 8700k?
Inkadinkadoo replied to Davidf4e's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I agree with this. Your CPU is 4 generations old and could use the upgrade before you do anything with your gpu -
upgrade to 1080ti or 8700k?
Inkadinkadoo replied to Davidf4e's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I agree with Damascus. I would wait for next gen Nvidia Volta cards. But if you truly insist on upgrading now, its pretty much up to you. The 1080ti offers 20% better performance than the 1080, but it's pretty expensive. The i7 8700k is also pretty spendy (at apparantly $500?! Wtf!) The 8700k will offer better performance in programs that heavily utilize the cpu. The 1080ti will for sure net you more fps in games, but unless you're playing at 4k with a 144+ hz monitor, it almost wont matter. Personally I'd wait for Volta and for prices to drop a bit for the 8700k. Maybe grab it on a sale if it goes sub $300 If you decide to upgrade now, be prepared to be disappointed when Volta gets released shortly after. -
help configure RAM timings with 2 kits?
Inkadinkadoo replied to Inkadinkadoo's topic in Troubleshooting
when installing the 2nd kit of ram, i ended up clearing the CMOS, so the motherboard is at it's default settings. as for the XMP profile, yes there is 1 XMP profile showing up, and it has been applied when i installed the 2nd kit. i was using it before too, when i only had the 1 kit and no problems. the GPU oc is a factory overclock done by Gigabyte. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125876 and has been stable for the entire time i've owned it. this is the first time i've experienced a bluescreen on my computer. I'm only able to return the 2nd kit for a refund, as the 1st i've had for about 6 months. I'll run a memtest tomorrow. I've already tried running Windows Memory Diagnostics, but when it rebooted to do so, it didn't boot and just got stuck at CPU initialization. (the mobo's q-code diagnosed this) would posting the memory dump from the BSOD be of any help? EDIT: also when i was playing CS:GO earlier today, I had MSI Afterburner overlayed to display diagnostic information about my system and I didn't see or notice anything unusual. Double EDIT: I'm leaning more towards refunding the 2nd kit and spending the money on something more sensible like a mechanical keyboard or toward a better gpu or something. it was a pretty dumb purchase tbh. i only really need 16GB for what i do anyway. lol it was my ocd that made me buy it. i needed to fill all the empty slots! haha
