  1. so I added a new RTX 3070 into my machine last week and its been great but one game (yakuza 6) keeps crashing to desktop with this showing in event viewer The description for Event ID 0 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer. If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event. The following information was included with the event: \Device\Video3 Error occurred on GPUID: 900 The message resource is present but the message was not found in the message table now i have been running other games fine and even playing VR titles at max settings is fine. I have run a bunch of benchmarks and applied slight overclocks on the card to stress test it and I never get a hint of an issue, but try and run Yakuza 6 and i cant even get 10 mins in game without a CTD. so it sounds driver/software related to me. I have already RMA'd one RTX 3070 this year and can't bear the thought of RMA'ing this one too. can anyone help. ??
  2. apologies for asking such a noob question but I find myself getting confused when looking at the dimensions for GPUs as the manufacturers seem to use height and width interchangeably. when I look the dimensions for a GPU I am assuming the lowest number after length, that's usually in the 40-60 mm range is referring to this distance here Correct?? in my head this would be the width of the card but it looks to me like some call it height?
  3. thanks for the replies guys, i will go for a 3070. my next problem however is i don't have much space to give in my current case. the dimensions of my current GPU are H=41 L=280 W=114 mm and I don't have any room to give for the length in current case, but there are shorter length 3070 cards so that's no big deal. my main concern is around width though the green and red lines are where my current card sits. the red line is the edge of the backplate, so with a wider GPU would I be correct in saying the position of the backplate should be pretty much the same and I just need extra room on the green side (I only need the two sata ports at the edge). The Blue line is as far as a new card could go before blocking the MOBO power cable and essential SATA ports.
  4. yeah I don't think a 3080 would be a good fit. 3070 would be the limit of what i was considering
  5. yeah it won't. Even if it did "on paper" I would not chance it as since putting in the 3600x anytime i completely shut off my PSU the BIOS resets to default settings and i have to reconfigure XMP and my fan curve. so I don't want to touch the CPU if i can avoid it.
  6. would love to go 5000 series but a B350 board wont do Ryzen 3rd Gen
  7. ok so here is the situation. I bought a Corsair 850w PSU about 18 months ago on a deal and the plan was to buy an RTX 3000 series GPU and build a new system. As we all know everything went to shit. As I live in Europe prices are still atrocious so the new system plan is being shelved. I want to put a new GPU in my current system and add in the 850w psu and try and extend the life by another 2 years MB: Gigabyte B350 CPU: Ryzen 3600x RAM: 16GB 3200mhz Crucial MX SATA SSD current GPU: GTX1070ti would a 3070/3080 be bottlenecked in my system? if so was thinking a 3060ti or 2070 super would be best bet. my use case is 1440p gaming, but primarily VR and playing flatscreen games in VR with Vorpx. I dont play the latest and greatest games e.g. it will be a long time before the likes of Cyberpunk are on my radar. A good barometer would be I would like to play modded Skyrim/Fallout 4 VR comfortably and play Read dead redemption 2 with luke ross's VR mod. what's my best option?? putting in a 3950x could be an option but i have had some weirdness since putting in the 3600x so would like to avoid a CPU change if possible.
  8. but surely there are plenty of people who had some manner of gigabyte b350 board that had to follow a similar path??
  9. so i want to update the BIOS on my Gigabyte ab350M-ds2 motherboard so i can get a Ryzen 3 chip, instead of buying a new board, but i am a bit confused by the information listed on their site https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-AB350M-DS2-rev-1x/support#support-dl-bios so i need help to determine exactly what steps to take and in what order. The board is currently on F4 Bios. from reading the info i think I can go straight from F4 to F31 , then install the EC FW update tool, then flash to F40, I am unsure if i can go straight from F4 to F31 and skip all BIOS in between. I am also not sure if i can update to latest chipset driver first, then flash to F31, or do i need to flash to an earlier BIOS first, update chipset driver , then flash to F31. currently running a ryzen 5 1600
  10. So I am trying to get a decent upgrade for now and future that stays under 600 euro. I get my parts from scan.co.uk I have done some research and would appreciate some opinions on the components in the screenshot.
  11. i am in Ireland in terms of the GPU upgrade i would be planning to get the Valve index at some point , and worry a 1070ti would not be enough to drive that. so i want to get upgrades now that would fit well with a newer GPU down the line. And i am aware i could just update my MB BIOS but I would like an extra PCIE slot and support for master memory.
  12. is the 2700 still likely to be good enough for the next 2-3 years?? I would be planning to move to either an RTX 2070 or 1080ti next year. will the 2700 be good enough when paired with either of those
  13. so I have a pretty decent gaming machine at present to game at 1440p but I bought a HTC vive a few months ago and i struggle with performance in some games , so I would like to make some upgrades and have about 500-600 Euro to spend. I would ideally also allow room for getting a higher end GPU next year and going to a M.2 SSD at some point also. Here is my current build. Case: Phanteks P300 Motherboard: Gigabyte AB350m Ds2 CPU: Ryzen 5 1600 GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1070 Ti Gaming RAM: Corsair 16GB DDR4 Vengeance LPX 3000MHz Power Supply: standard 500w Bronze PSU my main focus will be a new motherboard, as i would like an extra PCIE slot for the Vive wireless adapter, and have an M.2 slot for future upgrade. Having wifi built-in would be a plus too and then getting a Ryzen 3rd gen CPU, and a new case and power supply to run it. my current case is fine, but it has limited space for extra fans. i have 2 Noctua fans at the front as intakes but can only really fit 1 exhaust fan at the rear. When the case is completely closed the temps can stay in high 70s that's with everything running at stock clocks, and i have the front of the case slightly open to allow the fans to pull in more air. that keeps things in the mid-high 60s. i only rejoined the PC master race 18 months ago so I am a bit overwhelmed with all the options and could use some guidance. cheers
