  1. No problem, I know how that is. Let me know if you find anything, I'll keep scouring the internet. Thanks for helping!
  2. I did it, and though I no longer have to stare at that ugly thing all lit up, still no signal to the external monitor. Thanks for the suggestion, but it doesn't look like it worked this time. Maybe if I disconnected the thing entirely from the motherboard, but that's not an option. I'll keep looking, but I might just have to buy a new screen....
  3. Did you disconnect it from the motherboard, or just remove the connector to the LCD itself? I know on mine to disconnect it from the motherboard I have to remove EVERYTHING and I'm not doing that, but I could easily disconnect the screen.
  4. Hey thanks, good to know I'm not just doing something horribly wrong.
  5. Yeah, I've tried f4 both with and without the fn key, and I've gotten nothing. I have a feeling there's a very limited number of keyboard shortcuts associated with switching display outputs, and I've probably exhausted them all. I saw somewhere that I could force it to display on the monitor by disconnecting the laptop's LCD. I might try that if I don't find another solution. Think it's worth a shot?
  6. Yes, I have. It doesn't work, and it makes sense why. I think that's a function of Windows itself, and as far as I know, the computer isn't in the operating system at all right now. But I have no idea. Thanks anyway.
  7. Yes, it's Windows 10 Home. Some people have said f4 should do it, and that key has a little display icon on my keyboard, but it doesn't seem to work. If I can figure out what it's displaying, I could maybe use the keyboard to pick settings and work through the installer, but that seems like a long shot. Like, a really long shot.
  8. I have a Toshiba Satellite C855D-S5303 laptop. I know it's old, thank you very much. Actually, that's what caused the problem. The screen got shattered about a month ago, and I've had the thing on life support, hooked up to all external peripherals and using it like a desktop. Yesterday, I got sick of how slow it was running, and resolved to do a clean install of Windows. So I went to the control panel and did an "Advanced Restart" then clicked on "Reset This PC" and "Delete Everything". The external monitor I've been using immediately went black and the laptop's built in screen lit up. Since the screen is completely totaled, it's just bright white with colors at the cracks, so I have no idea what the computer's doing. But it's doing something, the fan's spinning like crazy, and it's been doing something for almost 24 hours now. I'm getting worried now that it's just sitting on a menu screen and I can't choose any options because I can't see anything on the external screen. There was an issue before this, where I couldn't get the BIOS to display on the external monitor. That's why I used the "Reset This PC" option instead of the bootable USB drive I have. Please, what do you guys think is going on, and how might I force the laptop to output to the monitor? Should I just wait, should I shut it down, are there keys I can press to force the output? I'm typing this on a Chromebook, please help . . .
  9. Thanks, I didn't think the VRM would have a huge difference between the two, but it is what I was worried about. The manufacturers don't advertise the important stuff on their "tech specs" which is annoying.
  10. Good to know these two boards are equal, just making sure because I know different boards can have very different power delivery, less stability, etc. and the manufacturers don't advertise it. Thanks!
  11. No, no LN2 and certainly no dry ice. Just liquid, but I don't know much about motherboards, at least the power delivery portion. It's good to know there isn't much difference between the two, I can save some money there. The second question was kind of just me being curious. That board looks sick by the way! And though I won't be getting it, it's not even as expensive as I expected.
  12. Hey guys, I'm building a new PC with the 8700k soon, and I need to choose a motherboard. I think I'm going to go with Asus, but I'm open to other brands. Two questions then: First, which is better for overclocking, the Asus ROG Strix Z370-E Gaming or the Asus ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC)? Second, what is the absolute best motherboard (for overclocking) from any manufacturer for the 8700k? Thanks for any help everyone!
  13. You seem to know what you're talking about. Just wanted to ask a question then. I know the 80+ rating is about power efficiency, and I know roughly how it works. What I don't know is if the 80+ ratings have anything to do with the quality/reliability/safety of the PSU? As in, would a lower 80+ like bronze or silver pose any sort of risk of breaking sooner, or damaging components? Assuming you don't care about power consumption, do the ratings even matter?
  14. Ok thanks, is the X370 Pro enough for an overclocked 1600x? I assume since you recommended it, but just to make sure.
  15. Thank you for the recommendation. First, what are VRMs? (I know, I'm a noob) And second, will this board handle any overclock on the 1600x that I throw at it?
