  1. Okay I understand. Then if this happens again, which it might, I'll reinstall windows. Thanks for the explanation.
  2. Would it be too much of a headache to figure out what's the cause of the problem? I would reinstall windows if that were the only solution, but I would prefer to avoid it if I could.

I had google open and was typing a message on discord. I couldn't backspace what I had typed and I couldn't click anywhere else on discord, but I could still move the window around and close it. I also couldn't click anything on google. I tried to shut down the computer but the task bar wouldn't appear. I tried pressing the windows key but that didn't work. Then I tried to open the task manager with ctrl+alt+delete but that didn't work either. Finally I force shutdown the computer. When I booted it up again, it said that it was scanning and repairing the hard drive and it finished booting like normal. Some time later I was on google again and I clicked to open a second tab, but then I couldn't click anything else. I could still close google, and again, I couldn't use the taskbar to shut the computer down. I tried to open another app but it would appear as a blurry rectangle that I could drag around, but it would never finish opening. I tried to restart the computer by holding alt+f4 until the shutdown window opened, but when I pressed enter on "restart," nothing would happen. This opened the taskbar, but clicking shutdown or restart wouldn't do anything. I then force shutdown the computer again because I didn't know how else to turn it off. I looked at the event viewer to see what it could be and I think it may be NTFS error 98, which says this: Volume C: (\Device\HarddiskVolume4) needs to be taken offline to perform a Full Chkdsk. Please run "CHKDSK /F" locally via the command line, or run "REPAIR-VOLUME <drive:>" locally or remotely via PowerShell. I repaired the hard drive through the error checking in tools in the properties of the hard drive but the same thing happened later. I'm on Windows 10 Version 20H2 and I updated my graphics card drivers too. The OS in on an M.2 SSD. What could be causing this? Thank you.
  4. I've never had any issues with hardware acceleration so I'm going to leave it alone for now and if the problem persists then I'll disable it.
  5. Alright, I'll add another cable to my gpu then. Is it possible to check the history of a certain task in task manager? That way, I can just check now instead of waiting for a crash, if not then I'll just monitor it. I also only have windows defender so I'll download malwarebytes. EDIT: I ran a malwarebytes scan and it found 25 files that were PUPs. All the files were from google chrome. What do you think? My computer has crashed without having chrome open.
  6. Oh I see, thank you for the info. So would you recommend that I have my gpu powered with two separate cables? What I find strange is that I didn't have any problems with this before and I also haven't changed the games I've been playing or any settings on my gpu. I'm assuming that gpu driver updates or windows updates could lead to stability issues?
  7. I added my pc build list to the post. When I rebuilt my pc, I didn't touch the ram or cpu cooler, I only took out the gpu and then unscrewed the motherboard with the ram and cpu attached. My gpu is powered with a daisy chain, but I've always had it like that and never had any problems.
  8. The build I have on my profile is an old one, I forgot to update it. I’m using two 8 gb sticks of ram and have a different gpu with 8 gb of vram. Usually, I’ll have one or two chrome tabs open while I play, but it’s strange because I can be doing school work for the same amount of time or longer with more tabs open and nothing would happen. I do have multiple programs running at a time so maybe that may be a cause.
  9. Thank you for the information. Nothing out of the ordinary happened when I disassembled and reassembled the computer. My temps are good. I went from having 4 case fans and a smaller case (NZXT H510) to 8 with a larger case (lianli o11 dynamic), so if anything, I would say the temps would have been worse before. Based off of what you told me, my guess would be that the issue is software related or there is a loose connection somewhere, but I think that is unlikely since it doesn't happen always, only when playing games.

I can tell when it's going to happen because I have discord or google chrome open on my second monitor. Before the problem happens, chrome will say it ran into an error and the reason would be "ran out of RAM." If discord is open, it would flicker and then everything will freeze and turn black around 15 seconds later. I'm pretty sure it's a problem with my graphics card because this only happens when I'm playing games. I usually reset my computer when my screens go black because my computer can boot up quicker than waiting. If I wait after my screens turn black, I'm pretty sure my computer will end up on a blue screen. It's happened a couple of times but the error codes have been different each time. One time that it was different was when I was playing Valorant and both of my screens started freaking out and an error message popped up saying "graphics drivers have crashed." I have updated Windows and the graphics drivers and I thought the problem was fixed but it happened again today. Another graphics driver update is available, but I haven't done it. This problem happens at random times, but it's never happened when I first turned on my computer and started playing, only a few hours after I start playing. I know my graphics card has had driver issues in the past, but I never had any problems with the card until now. Am I right to think that it's my graphics card? What could the cause of the problem be? I looked into the event viewer and tried to find a possible error around the time that it happened and I found this (not sure if it is related): Fault bucket 1622732328772189425, type 4 Event Name: APPCRASH Response: Not available Cab Id: 0 Problem signature: P1: dwm.exe P2: 10.0.18362.387 P3: 8e064b77 P4: dwmcore.dll P5: 10.0.18362.1110 P6: e27448ad P7: c00001ad P8: 000000000015b30a P9: P10: Attached files: \\?\C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\WER\Temp\WERE3C5.tmp.WERInternalMetadata.xml These files may be available here: \\?\C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportArchive\AppCrash_dwm.exe_b49ef115af7239f8456125a4ee824f2785368d_25529819_14e12cd3-f125-463d-812e-edd1ea1b9b2d Analysis symbol: Rechecking for solution: 0 Report Id: 78a9d23b-3c3f-439d-bc9b-2641b6889f44 Report Status: 268435556 Hashed bucket: 5332a79781e32cdf16851a7496023cf1 Cab Guid: 0 Thank you
  11. We do know what the subnet is. I think it might be a bios issue. The motherboard is 2-3 years old and I never had any network problems when I first built it. It would make sense if something isn't working right 3 years later. What you said about the driver from the network interface manufacturer's site, I don't understand what you mean, sorry. Now that you mention BIOS, it would make sense
  12. My friend contacted microsoft support and they have been trying to solve it but no luck yet. I'm thinking it is the mobo. Thanks for the info
  13. That was the motherboard I was using before I upgraded my computer and I never had that issue before. We aren't using a powerline adapter, the computer is directly connected to the router. We Have tried two ethernet cables but no luck. Do you think this can be solved by switching the motherboard?
  14. The computer is directly connected to the router and we tried two cables and neither worked. We had it on automatic first but that didn't work so we switched to manual. Today we switched back to automatic and it still gave the same error, but it gave the popup asking if the computer wanted to be discovered by other devices on the network (I don't remember exactly what it said) so it looked like it was visible on the network. ipconfig /release did give us some info like it should have, but ipconfig /renew said "An error occurred while renewing interface Ethernet : unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out"
  15. Link to original post PC Part List UPDATE: The motherboard needed a driver update. This fixed the network problem I had originally posted this on Reddit, but I wanted to post it here to see if there is something else I can do. I helped a friend build a PC using some of my old parts and some new parts. We completed it 3 days ago and installed windows, but after the installation finished, the computer could not connect to the internet. When the error would be troubleshooted, it would say "Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration." We looked up the error and tried some troubleshooting solutions but none worked (Going into command prompt and clearing and resetting different network settings, reinstalling the network drivers, etc.). We also tried to connect the computer to a different network but that didn't solve the issue. Finally we reinstalled windows again, but that didn't fix the problem. Finally we tried to connect to the network manually, but that didn't fix it. After we put in the information, the error changed to “the default gateway is not available.” Could this be an issue with the motherboard? Thanks
