  1. I seem to have resolved the issue. The problem lay in the 3.5mm jack on the cable provided by HyperX being plugged into any adapter. Luckily, I have an extension cable from Amazon Basics and that connection seems to be fine as the sound is coming through brilliantly now. Appreciate your suggestions and hope this could help anybody in the future.
  2. Hmm, I could give that a go. No, the jack in the laptop is 3.5mm and the X6 is 6.35mm so the adapter is only used in the X6. The headset sounds fine in my phone and other 3.5mm jacks so it might just be the adapter.
  3. I'm not sure. There wasn't any software installation when I plugged the X6 in. Only the driver installation. I've tried another pair of headphones and they sound fine through the X6. I'm beginning to think that it could be the 3.5mm to 6.35mm adapter. The thicker, knurled section seems to turn around the main shaft of the jack with enough finger force, which I'm not sure is a standard feature. I don't have another 6.35mm jack slot on anything I can use right now so I can't really test it out.
  4. Hey all, I'm using a DAC X6 with HyperX Cloud Alphas and the sound compared to the onboard of my laptop is really bad. The X6 seems to give out almost no bass, the main vocals in songs are very quiet and the harmony voices are actually louder than anything else. Everything kind of sounds like it's got one of those concert hall sound effects on or something. When I plug the headset into the laptop directly, the sound is much better. More bass, clarity and general quality. I'm using a Lenovo Z50 with Windows 10. Just plugged the X6 into a USB port. Anybody got any ideas. Thanks in advance.
  5. Interesting. Thanks for your input
  6. That's what I've been hearing. Care to expand a little?
  7. SMSL M3 vs DAC-X6? I need the optical and USB. Looking to drive HyperX Cloud Alphas, possible expansion in the future. Mainly for gaming and casual music/media. Would be nice if I could use it at home, at university etc. Seems the X6 is will drive more things, the M3 apparently gives better bass BUT the main thing that is killing me right now is that the M3 seems to get a lot of reviews of them breaking and the X6 get significantly less. As much as people hate the Tritton Pro+ I've been using, the sound hardware has never failed me, and I want what I buy next to last the same few years at least. The X6 uses external power and the M3 isn't restricted by that, opening up more options for on the go listening, a little more suitable for my potential environment of use. Finally, I can get the X6 for £60 and the M3 for £44. Any thoughts? Tips? I'm struggling to make the choice. Thanks
  8. Interesting. Thanks for your insight. I really should try the Clouds our first so I have some reference. It's really tricky to make any decisions I still feel running the headset through something that's not an Xbox controller is going to be better. I've no idea really though.
  9. So the sound quality is fine with what setup? The headset plugged into the controller? The TV? I'm a little confused on how everybody gets great sound. I do need the mic option and I can get the Clouds for £70 right now, and I don't wan't to spend more really.
  10. Hey all, So I'm focusing in on getting the Clouds but I'm a little bit worried. My only experience with this sort of thing is with the Tritton Pro+ headsets, and I'm worried that the Clouds aren't going to be as good. The Trittons use optical whereas the Clouds are just analogue. Wouldn't this mean that the Trittons are going to sound better? Or do the single drivers of the Clouds make up for it? Should I consider setting up a dac/amp to get the most out of the Clouds? I was thinking the DAC-X6? I mainly use consoles that have optical connections, so just having to change around one cable is useful but not essential. Is the quality going to really be that much of a problem though? A little guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  11. Any comparison between the Cloud Alphas and the Tritton Pro+, mainly for consoles? The Pro+ uses optical and the Clouds 3.5mm analogue, so the Trittons are going to sounds better, no? I'm looking for an upgrade.
  12. I'm worried that the sound quality of the Cloud Alphas won't be as good as the Tritton Pro+ I've been using for the past few years, mainly because the Pro+ uses optical and the Clouds are only analogue. Anybody have any experience with that? I mainly use it for console, but will use for some laptop stuff as well. I was thinking a dac/amp combo would be a good option. Maybe the DAC X6 as mentioned by Zeos?
