  1. Yo first time poster I think...or at least it's been a while. So I hurt my back the other day and I can't go to my regular job for a while so I'm in need of money. I'm not sure what I'm expecting but I thought there might be someone or some people on this website (long time linus fan) that can give me some advice. I'm pretty well versed in hardware, Windows and Apple OS. My primary computer is one I built a year or 2 ago. 4770k, gtx 760, 8 gigs etc. Got a multimonitor setup and everything. There's gotta be work I can do from my house with this baby right? Any help or advice is greatly appreciated again.
  2. Hi Everyone, Today I notice that the debug LED on my Asus Maximus VI motherboard was showing the number 30. After a quick google, it appears that it means "the system is waking up from the S3 sleep state." The thing is my computer is awake and performing fine as far as I can tell, whereas all the google searches that turned up were about solving a problem with the computer not booting properly and displaying the number 30 on the debug LED. I have no such problem, I'm typing this from my computer just fine. I'm wondering what this means. Thanks.
  3. So you're saying that task manager needs to use all those threads to monitor all the processes of a quad core with 8 virtual threads?
  4. This us exactly what I'm talking about. I tried opening all the other apps on my computer and nothing peaked 15% usage upon opening, yet taskmanager requires nearly the entire cpu's attention? I'm willing to bet it's just poor programming on Windows' end (if someone can explain why this happens then by all means go ahead, I'm curious).
  5. Back on topic. I don't believe task manager should use 60-100% of my 4770k for 1 split second when it's opened. Does that happen to anybody else?
  6. I just built this rig and I'm stuck using the stock cooler until I decide to fork out money for a serious cooler. I'm leaning towards a closed loop solution because they seem simple, effective, quiet and are easy to look at. At stock clocks I scored an 879. But I'm running on integrated graphics (which i believe detracts from my score) and I think I still have one of the power savings modes on in my board's bios. I'm running an asus vi formula board. I did submit score to rookie rumble. I don't know why it says N/A under my ranks though.
  7. When I open task manager and go to the performance tab, there's always a cpu usage spike ranging fro 60%-100% for just a split second. I thought it was probably just a software bug, but I double checked using realtemp, and sure enough the cpu gets instantly hotter for a moment as I open task manager. Does anyone else experience this? *edit: if you look quick enough you can see that it's task manager under cpu processes itself that spikes the cpu usage for a split second after it's opened.
  8. Ya the highest scores on XTU were using 2666mhz. I didn't see anything higher on a 4770k.
  9. ALL Corsair dominator platinums are expensive. The 1866mhz ram is $125 and the 2666mhz ram is $160. It's really not that much MORE expensive. Dominators are op(overpriced and overpowered -aesthetically at least) And anyway scoring the highest is the kind of thing that I get excited about.
  10. So I was looking at XTU results after testing my 4770k. Unsurprisingly I noticed that the users with the highest score had Ram clocked at 2666mhz, the amount of Ram didn't seem to matter. I currently have 2 x 4g 1866mhz dominator platinums in my system. I was planning on buying the same sticks in the future when I wanted more ram, but now I want the faster clocked ram so I can increase my XTU score. I'd take out the two 1866mhz stick and only leave the 2666mhz sticks in the system during the XTU benchmarking. So my question is: Can I buy 2666mhz dominator platinums, underclock them to 1866mhz and stick them in with the two sticks of 1866mhz ram for 16gbs??
  11. Thanks for answering. So is that the same for gpu vram?
  12. Here's a video comparison between the 270x and gtx 760. You can see @0.45 the 270x buckle for some reason. It's a little thing but it's non existent on the 760. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9_Wn6w3InU
  13. I'm looking to snag a good deal on a gpu off ebay seeing as I don't have one and I'm not looking to spend over $200. First of all, holy sapphire r9 270/270x batman there are tons and tons of these cards being sold right now. It's only the sapphire brand too. I'm guessing it's from people who are over the litecoin mining thing and are trying to get rid of what they don't need anymore. I see 270x's going for less then $130 regularly. I was tempted to pull the trigger on one as they get great fps for the price, but on the other hand I've heard too much about that card dropping frames and having poor driver support compared to nvidia cards. That brings me to nvidia cards. They have ridicules resale value from what I can see, even the gtx 660 sells for more than the 270x on average by like $50. I'm being patient and trying to snag a gtx 760 for ~$200 (which feels like a ripoff when the 270x is going for insanely less and gets similar frames in some titles) but it's looking dire as most buyers are willing to fork out close to retail price for these used nvidia cards. It's nuts.
