  1. Hi guys, I have an EVGA gtx 970 SC that was OC'd to +50mhz on clock and +450mhz on memory. I also have my ryzen 1600X OC'd to 3.9Ghz @1.375v The title says it all. Had a GPU overclock that was rock stable for months, only to have it crash after my creators update (which i was forced into!). Had to dial it down considerably to +40 on core and +350 on memory. Anyone had anything similar happen? Any advice?
  2. Where did you get that info - david lee and linus tech tips both say it shouldn't throttle (unless under synthetic loads)
  3. Sweet - I actually think I'm going to put in my first preference for the slightly more expensive 2017 dell XPS 15 with the i7 and 1050 4GB - yeah its not the Ti and the Ti gives amazing performance over the 1050 (or so I can see). Its only for light gaming while travelling (which, admittedly is most of my job), and the XPS fits the slim professional look that you really want when you slam down a laptop in-front of a client. It will fit in with the rest of my companies MacBook Pro's - as far as I can tell the new XPS is about as close as a like for like windows to mac system in terms of performance and design. The XPS can play the games I play (pubg, rocket league, LoL, 4X/Civ) no problem without throttling (if LTT is to be taken as gospel) on nice graphics as well as plow through my multi tasking workloads. Plus companies will claim back VAT for the work PC - which means its actually quite affordable. But I'm still open to suggestions on slimmer profile dedicated graphics laptops. I think the inspiron with the i7 and 1050 is going to be my second choice - cheaper, thicker, less premium but very similar specs so will still get the job done.
  4. It look far too gamery for my needs. I am really looking for something that looks like a think pad on the outside - but is sexy on the inside. And for the thermals, just looked around! I stand corrected, they are not that bad at all! Any one had any luck or know anything about the 'custom' build laptops with 3XS - scan.co.uk(s) custom laptops (https://www.scan.co.uk/3xs/custom/laptop#anc) or anything like that? (PC specialist?) Is that a way to go? Is this route worth it? I know most of these come at a premium, but I wont be paying VAT or will be claiming it back through the company so most things are 150-200 quid cheaper than retail price.
  5. That MSI one is kind of what I'm looking for! I bet I can't find that for under £1200 in the UK though! I'll have a look, might find a black friday/cyber monday deal on something like that. Probably totally overkill - and out of the budget by some margin. I'm not even sure how quadros handle gaming? I really appreciate the quick replies guys!
  6. Hey Forum, Long time browser of the forum, and watcher of LTT, first time poster. I am in charge of buying my own company laptop - the budget is a bit ambiguous, I have a company 2011 mac book to sell and some of my own money to go into it (its a 70-30 company/personal use PC) - the budget is roughly £1000 (I'm in the UK) or the price of a used new macbook - this is negotiable with the big cheese. I am kind of hoping for a ultrabook style profile (doesn't have to be super small) and less gaming aesthetic as I will be using it with clients occasionally and the blaring red/ orange trim or RGB stuff wouldn't be appropriate. It doesn't have to be a killer gamer - I'd be happy with 1050/ti - something that can get me through train journeys/flights/long nights in hotels. I don't play much that is super demanding - bit of pubg, overwatch and then mostly older games or RTS/4X. My professional work is cpu intensive - compiling, rendering and some video/photo editing. I work in the digital marketing/consulting and web/app dev sector. So a quadcore i7 would be preferable, my current mac is hideously slow when I have more than a few apps running, especially if I'm trying to compile and do some research or edit a photo in the background. The laptops I have seem that might fit the bill (but a tad bulky and a little too gamery) are: - Dell Inspiron 7577 (i7-7700HQ/ 1050ti) - this has some killer performance for its thermals - Y520/720(bit too rich for my blood) (i7-7700HQ 1060/1050ti) - too gamey and thermals aren't good. I am seriously stumped. Ultimately I'd like a more slim profile and less gamery, but most laptops like that don't have any discreet graphics. Any suggestions for a business on the outside - sexy on the inside laptop that might fit the bill? Edit - I totally forgot to mention I have a fairly beefy desktop at home - 970 SLI/ Ryzen 1600X/ 16GB DDR4 3000Mhz. This is just to tide me over when I'm away for a week.
